Re: [Bug 779512] [NEW] nut-2.6.0-1ubuntu3 behavior regression

2011-05-09 Thread Arnaud Quette
2011/5/8 Mr. Muskrat 779...@bugs.launchpad.net

 Public bug reported:

 Binary package hint: nut

Prior to upgrading to Natty, I had the nut-2.4.3-1ubuntu5 package and it
 was working correctly.

right, but the fix made for the kind of devices you have (ie not fully
complying to USB standards) broke other devices / features.

the right fix would have to be in libusb, but since we're still on 0.1
(which is not maintained anymore), the solution may come from the port to
libusb 1.0.

After upgrading to Natty, I have the nut-2.6.0-1ubuntu3 package and it
is not working correctly. Here's my release info:

 •[x4linux:~] mmusgrove $ lsb_release -rd
 Description:Ubuntu 11.04
 Release:11.04

The symptom is that it can't initialize data from HID UPS and so the
 driver fails to start.

•[x4linux:~] mmusgrove $ sudo upsdrvctl start
Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.6.0
Network UPS Tools - Generic HID driver 0.35 (2.6.0)
 USB communication driver 0.31
 Using subdriver: CyberPower HID 0.3
 libusb_get_report: No error
Can't initialize data from HID UPS
Driver failed to start (exit status=1)

 (...)

could you please do the following test and send back the output:
- first, stop nut
- then export USB_DEBUG=3
- start the driver using sudo /lib/nut/usbhid-ups - -a upsname
where upsname is the one from ups.conf.

- the output of dpkg -l '*libusb*' would also be useful.

cheers,
Arnaud

[Bug 694029] Re: [natty] kvm guests become unstable after a while

2011-05-09 Thread Sebastian Kuzminsky
I'm affected by this bug too.

I recently upgraded my laptop from a Dell Latitude D380 running Lucid
64-bit to a Dell Latitude E6520 running Natty 64. I moved all my VMs
from the old machine to the new. All the VMs had been working fine for
a long time on the old system.

The first VM i booted is a 64-bit Lucid machine. When I try compiling
the linux kernel on it (2.6.38.something, from git), it fails every time
with an error like this:

  gcc -Wp,-MD,drivers/firewire/.sbp2.o.d -nostdinc -isystem
/usr/lib/gcc/x86_64-linux-gnu/4.4.3/include

If I run make again, it compiles that file fine and segfaults on some
other file.

The host machine is totally stable, no problems at all. The host
machine has plenty of disk free on / and /home (where the VMs live). /
and /home are both ext4, though I think that's irrelevant.

Please let me know if you want me to run any experiments...

2011-05-09 Thread Kees Cook
AAaargh. Who reimplements sprintf!? I am working on hardy and dapper
now. Will have this uploaded shortly. Thanks for double-checking and
getting the Lucid and Oneiric patches ready!

At least full ASLR (PIE[1]) is in place in Lucid and later, so
exploiting this is difficult, but not impossible.

[Bug 551130] Re: [SRU] infinite loop in /etc/init/mysql.conf if mysqld is not running.

2011-05-09 Thread MarkieB
I'll add comment here as it looks as though there is a regression, I
tried to install mysql-server-5.1 today in Maverick, dpkg got stuck,
then after some struggling I adjusted /etc/init/mysql.conf to start
mysqld_save as -u mysql, good up to the stage of trying to connect; then
needed to 'downgrade' the dpkg edit of /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld;
files attached, working file is now called usr.sbin.mysqld, dpkg had
saved it as usr.sbin.mysqld.dpkg-old;

broken file is now called usr.sbin.mysqld.dpkg-new

2011-05-09 Thread MarkieB
In fact I've confirmed that the changes to /etc/init/mysql.conf are
unnecessary, it's somehow in the magic of
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld were I to delve into its intricacies

[Bug 694029] Re: [natty] kvm guests become unstable after a while

2011-05-09 Thread Sebastian Kuzminsky
Serge Hallyn wrote in #15:
So far, having two vm's (built by vmbuilder) doing apt-getinstall
 ubuntu-desktop,
what I got was apt-cacher-ng on the host disappearing (!).

In my experience, apt-cacher-ng is a flaky crock that crashes all the
time. I'd guess it's not related to this bug.

2011-05-09 Thread Sebastian Kuzminsky
I think Jamie Strandboge is on to something in comment #18 (even though
Kees Cook reports something contradictory in #28).

I have a very similar wifi chipset, and if i disable wifi the problem
appears to be gone. At least my VM successfully compiled a whole
kernel, which it's never done with wifi on.

I'll attach my system information from apport.

[Bug 780149] Re: net-snmp FTBFS on oneiric (eval: 1: base_compile+= gcc: not found)

2011-05-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package net-snmp - 5.4.3~dfsg-2.2ubuntu1

---
net-snmp (5.4.3~dfsg-2.2ubuntu1) oneiric; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian (LP: #780149). Remaining changes:
- net-snmp-config: Use bash.
- Removed multiuser option when calling update-rc.d.
- debian/snmpd.init: LSBify the init script.
- debian/patches/52_fix_snmpcmd_1_typo.patch: Adjust a typo in
  snmpcmd.1.
- debian/snmpd.postinst: Source debconf before doing work.
- debian/snmp.preinst, debian/snmp.prerm: Kill any/all processes owned
  by snmp user before install/uninstall.
- Add apport hook.
- debian/patches/ubuntu-fix-lp-587828.patch: Fix row creation for 64bit
  arches.

net-snmp (5.4.3~dfsg-2.2) unstable; urgency=high

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix FTBFS on kfreebsd-* by updating 44_nlist_kvm.patch to detect nlist
(in libbsd), thanks to Jakub Wilk (Closes: #625985).
  * Add build-dependency on libbsd-dev on kfreebsd-* accordingly.

net-snmp (5.4.3~dfsg-2.1) unstable; urgency=high

  [ Julien Cristau ]
  * Non-maintainer upload to fix FTBFS (closes: #625730).
  * Don't hardcode SHELL to /bin/sh in Makefile.top, libtool wants bash
(closes: #617212).
  * Add missing libraries to link commands to make newer gcc happy (closes:
#555767, #615756).

  [ Cyril Brulebois ]
  * Do the 3.0 (quilt) dance to get Julien's patches applied.
  * Add some bug closures.
