Sorry, the average user doesn't care about your universe vs. main repository issues and you are not yet able to provide a solution that makes sense. [Bug 810270] Re: AppArmor profiles need updates for /var/run → /run and /var/lock → /run/lock
This bug was fixed in the package cups - 1.4.7-1 --- cups (1.4.7-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream version. [ Till Kamppeter ] * debian/patches/ubuntu-upstart.dpatch: Updated the patch to add support to the new device enumeration functionality of udev-configure-printer. This way we do not need to retrigger the printers. Retriggering is only needed if udev rules change. A fallback to the old bahavior is provided so that this CUPS package continues to work with older versions of udev-configure-printer. [ Martin Pitt ] * Update patches for new upstream release. * Drop fix-broken-ipv6-uris.patch, applied upstream. * debian/local/apparmor-profile: /var/run → /run transition. (LP: #810270) * Drop debian/patches/ubuntu-upstart.dpatch and move the upstart script to debian/local/cups.upstart. In debian/rules, copy it to debian/, and remove that again during clean. [Bug 253230] Re: qemu-kvm should Build-Depends on libvdeplug2-dev (KVM vde2 support not working)
Sorry, but I don't get the point. The openvswitch does not even have half of the features vde provides, it is just a switch! Also, it is not for me, it's for my users I am complaining. My Debian has full kvm+vde support since this has been closed a while ago. I know there are different solutions for the average Joe, but Ubuntu cannot simply ignore the request of thousands of users. The role of a *complete* distribution should be to provide different tools for similar purposes. [Bug 253230] Re: qemu-kvm should Build-Depends on libvdeplug2-dev (KVM vde2 support not working)
I am replying here because I think this discussion is still adherent to the topic, and also because I don't mind spamming this bug report. It's been open for years and lead to nothing. I am not here to say what is better between ovs, vde or any other similar tool. The super-partes role of a distribution must be to include every (popular) solution and this is the real advantage of free/OS. Ubuntu is just living on a different planet here. For the sack of completeness, I must say vde has a kernelspace version as well, but it is less popular since vde is designed to run on other OSes too. I would be interested to benchmark the two tools anyway. As a matter of fact, I don't see any counterpart for most of the vde tools in ovs, in particular most of the time I have to recreate complex network topologies, integrate emulated channels, use encrypted tunnels, connect local/remote real/virtual machines with maximum flexibility. OVS is a VDE competitor as well as OpenVPN is, from my point of view. VDE is just a broader tool, and for me (and several other people) it is just nice to use the native integration with qemu and kvm, even if workarounds like bridging a kvm tap or even capturing it with vde_pcap are still possible nowadays with the lame official Ubuntu package. My point is that OVS for sure does a great job, most likely from what you say it is even better than VDE for the features they have in common, but VDE is a set made of a larger number of tools for different purposes, that's why I am insisting that much here. Sorry if I was too direct in my previous reply: I am trying to explain why use X instead of Y if Y is not supported in the distro was not an acceptable answer. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/253230 Title: qemu-kvm should Build-Depends on libvdeplug2-dev (KVM vde2 support not working) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/253230/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Just as some additional background information while there is upstream discussion going on. I am not sure how it will end as yesterday responses rather made hope for getting things back and today there is others rather wanting to preserve the current status. The main argument is HVM as you can have the IDE disks provided as hd* devices on an emulated controller and at the same time via xvd*. So they want to preserve the first 4 device names for that. http://xenbits.xen.org/gitweb/?p=xen-unstable.git;a=blob;f=docs/misc /vbd-interface.txt;h=d97c458f14faf81f746d23f0eafb4afe0ca3fa69;hb=HEAD -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/784937 Title: /mnt not mounted, swap not used, disk is xvde To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/784937/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 745930] Re: cloud-init timeout waiting for metadata service on EC2
Don't ask me why I installed the aptitude task group uec on my ubuntu 10.04.2 server edition virtualbox image. I wanted to have a minimal streamlined ubuntu virtual machine for developing for Heroku cedar stack which is based on ubuntu 10.04 and ruby1.9.2 My virtualbox host machine is running the linux-server(pae) kernel with dkms compiled virtualbox-ose kernel module loaded. Almost every boot/service hang can be addressed by holding shift on boot and choosing the (single user) recovery kernel/initramfs image in grub/lilo. From there, I can choose command prompt with networking and uninstall services like cloud-init. Then i could reboot. Because of this design problem, Cloud-init by default runs before the recovery menu appears. At a minimum, I wish cloud-init would resume to the recovery console after 100 attempts so I could fix this. Possibly there may be a key sequence or kernel parameter that I could add to the recovery grub boot menu that would allow me to disable this server on a one shot basis? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cloud-init in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745930 Title: cloud-init timeout waiting for metadata service on EC2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-init/+bug/745930/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 808224] Re: ovs-brcompatd not built
@Ben: Can you comment on why it's use is discouraged? A few reasons: * Its original goal was to support XAPI on Citrix XenServer, in versions of XenServer before OVS was integrated. We implemented exactly the feature set required for that. There could easily be important omissions. * Unlike most of the rest of OVS, we don't test it here at Nicira anymore, because we don't need it anymore for XenServer support. * We're working to upstream the OVS kernel module but there's no way that the brcompatd module would ever get accepted upstream. * Using OVS advanced features requires using ovs-vsctl instead of brctl anyway (and if you don't want to use OVS advanced features why bother switching from the bridge?). Also, do you plan to make a binary package for it in Debian, if we are to add it - i'd rather avoid diverging. It's written on my whiteboard as a to-do item but it's kind of a low priority. If you get around to it before me I'll take your patch. I can't reproduce this using ec2-api-tools version 1.4.3.0-0ubuntu1 (oneiric). [Bug 809046] Re: Apache Server Dumpos Frequently - *** glibc detected *** /usr/sbin/apache2: double free or corruption
Hi, thanks for your attention As far as work - Ive built a new Amazone server from scratch, using Ubuntos official AMI not a community one I managed by sheer luck to move one domain to the new server and the crashes happen on the new server but for two days the original server hasnt had one crash. Which is a huge step to isolating the issue. The original server is a Drupal/Moodle setup - no crashes in two days The failing server is a WprdPerfect/Vbulletin/HTML set up. I upgraded the WP software yestrday but the problem remains. VBulletin is at latest release. I turned on PHP error logging but have no entries, not sure if ther eis something I did wrong or PHP just doesnt error out My biggest issue now is that the crash/dump doesnt do a time stamp, so the I have to guess and I've not been able to find any smoking gun from the logs about what was going on at the time of the crash. Is there any way to force entries intot he error log? Perhaps Some wget call I can put in a cron job that will cause and error entry? When you say Work 'load' I am not sure what you mean, you want to know the server loads? [Bug 810736] [NEW] logrotate script needs to notify all samba processes when logs are rotated
Public bug reported: After the log rotation, logrotate needs to notify all samba processes to release their open file descriptors on the log files. The current logrotate configuration file does not do so and only notify the process that has it's PID stored /var/run/samba/. This is wrong as other child will keep logging to the deleted files and may use all the disk space.
