Re: [Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)

2011-09-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Excerpts from Lucio M Nicolosi's message of Fri Sep 02 18:25:19 UTC 2011:
 @ Clint,

 A long time ago I also reported this bug for Maverick 64. Others
 reported for Natty an now Oneiric. Tired of waiting for a solution,
 successfully applied the patch explained at #18 to both my Mav and Natty
 installs. Wouldn't be easier to acknowledge that this bug isn't fixed
 at all than opening a new thread?

First, Thanks for sticking with us Lucio! I know it can be frustrating
when something just isn't working the way you'd expect it to.

There is a lot of noise attached to this, and it was indeed fixed at
one point by the developer. What has happened is likely a regression,
or even possibly an entirely different set of circumstances that lead
to the same bad end.

We may find that the original fix never took, but your extra bug reports
with versions and descriptions will help us nail down how this slipped
through and hopefully help to prevent the problem from recurring.

There's no reason to get attached to this particular bug report at all.
I know its much easier to just comment on this existing bug than to open
up a terminal and run 'ubuntu-bug cups' again, but that will help us a
great deal, even if we end up marking your new report as a duplicate of
this one.

[Bug 836849] Re: Samba starts before static IPs set in network manager

2011-09-03 Thread camden lindsay
Okay, let me see if i can touch on all of your points here.

I do not have IFACE=eth0 in the start on' clause of /etc/init/smb.conf

However, i do have the following line in /etc/samba/smb.conf, and it does not
'just work' as you indicate it should, unfortunately. :(
interfaces = eth0

Note that this bug is the same as
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/374589 essentially.

Attached are single startup /var/log/samba/log.smbd, /var/log/samba/log.nmbd,
and /etc/samba/smb.conf, as well as a successful startup of smbd after the
system is up and running.

[Bug 329067] Re: Cannot change password on ldap client, need to have 'try_authtok' in the pam config or libpam-cracklib installed

2011-09-03 Thread leopardb
It might be of value to note that the try_authtok option for the
pam_ldap.so library ist neither documented nor used, producing in the
/var/log/auth.log the following line : illegal option try_authtok.
Since illegal options are ignored, it produces exactly the same
behaviour as simply removing use_authtok altogether.

Because of this i'd recommend changing the title of the bug to something
like : cannot change user password on a LDAP client when the option
use_authtok is used with pam_ldap.so.

[Bug 840449] [NEW] Munin expects current and minimum value for fan sensors, but only current is provided by lm-sensors

The regular expression in the sensors plugin expects two RPM values,

I am having two setups where only the current value gets shown:

hosts allow = 192.168.56.0/255.255.255.0

in the smb.conf file, as the vboxnet0 interface is on that IP range
(it's 192.168.1.101). bind interfaces only = true is commented out,
as are all interfaces lines. At some point (I'm not sure when, as I
don't use the XP Guest that frequently) this stopped working. If I
comment out the hosts allow line such that access is available for
everyone, then the XP Guest can connect.

I have the same problem if I comment out hosts allow and have

bind interfaces only = true
interfaces = lo vboxnet0

The first setup listed has worked previously, so I'm filing it as a bug.
Again, by simply changing the smb.conf by commenting out the hosts
allow line and restarting samba, I have access to the shares (so the
shares are being put up properly), and I'm asked for my samba username
and password when accessing from the guest, so I think that end of it is
behaving properly. There seems to be something wrong with how it's set
up to filter on IP or interface.

I thought ubuntu-bug samba would have pulled in my smb.conf
automatically, but it doesn't look like thta happened. Here it is. I
deleted most of the share config at the bottom for privacy issues, but
left one in there with the username redacted.

[Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)

2011-09-03 Thread Lucio M Nicolosi
Clint,

In the new bug report, please consider that contrary to the stated at #30
(Martin Pitt) :
  For lucid, ... samba reloads the printers every 750 seconds anyway, so it's
just a matter of waiting...
At least for some hardware configurations it doesn't happen for Maverick, Natty
and Oneiric (as seen by the previous posts)

Also, please repost the working solution at #18 so that until a
permanent solution is released, faulty systems can be easily patched.

Many thanks for addressing this issue again.

[Bug 829944] Re: stopping freshclam doesn't remove pidfile

2011-09-03 Thread Michael Tautschnig
Note that both clamav-daemon and freshclam are supposed to do the
removal of the pid file themselves, and indeed also freshclam does have
an unlink call. I'm not sure whether we are killing it in the wrong way
or running into some upstream bug. I'll try to investigate.

Best,
Michael

[Bug 695556] Re: Asterisk locks up the system when an external process is called from the 'h' extension with a lower priority than Asterisk

2011-09-03 Thread Dave Walker
Apologies this has taken so long for someone to look at this bug. I
haven't quite understood the importance of this bug, i've currently set
it as Medium as it doesn't seem it has a valid work around.

It would be most useful if a minimal test case could be documented on
how to encounter this bug, as the one documented upstream seems unclear
to me.

It would seem that this is resolved in the current Ubuntu development
version Oneiric, so marking the main task as Fix Released and opening a
task for Lucid. If it affects other releases, please propose for the
relevant versions.

Thanks.

[Bug 840648] [NEW] NumLock doesn't engage when entering X session

2011-09-03 Thread Nate Muench
Public bug reported:

I'm using Oneiric Beta 1, and the open-vm-tools packaging from the
Oneiric main repo.

I'm in the process of getting the August packaging ready for
upload/proposal. After logging into the X session (after login), the
NumLock doesn't engage (I thought this was a bug in the July packages,
which would be fixed in the August packaging, but I was wrong)

NumLock has previously engaged after I installed the Tools (The March
packaging backward).

I don't know if I nicked something when doing the work on the July
release. Right now, my solution to this problem is installing NumLockX.
I was going to put the package as a suggested package in the August
release, but I wanted a second opinion.

I want to know if I'm the only one encountering this or not? If I'm not the
only one, I want to know:
1) Are there any other packages encountering this issue (like Bug #836277)?
2) A fix to the problem (which I'll add to my packaging), or whether my
solution is good enough (adding NumLockX as a suggested (or even a Recommended)
package).

** Affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 695556] Re: Asterisk locks up the system when an external process is called from the 'h' extension with a lower priority than Asterisk

2011-09-03 Thread Fabian Schmidt
The problem always arises if I try to execute a skript in the 'h' extension.
In my case i wanted to sent out an email when somone called and nobody picked
up the phone:

h = {
  if ( ${DIALSTATUS} == CANCEL ) {
System(/etc/asterisk/scripts/mail-missed.sh ${CALLERID(name)}
${CALLERID(num)} ${CALLEDNUMBER});
  };
};

This totally locks up my system as the asterisk process gets in a busy loop
until the external process finishes.
Sometimes the system recovers after several minutes with asterisk at 100% cpu
usage, sometimes i have to reboot to regain control of the system.

Re: [Bug 835715] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.54-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100

2011-09-03 Thread catraeus
I uninstalled, reinstalled mysql. I had to remove residue from the old
install /etc/mysql and others. I re-installed, moved the directory,
configured my.cnf before ever running mysql and it works fine now.

A bump in the night, not able to reproduce. Ubuntu sent off the report
before I could stop it.

Thanks for your help.

 Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
 Ubuntu better.

 The error you experienced in 4. was due to the apparmor profile provided
 with mysql-server. By default is will only allow access to
 /var/lib/mysql so when you moved to to /srv it denied access - you can
 see this in dmesg.txt:

 [ 8232.324109] type=1400 audit(1314483729.470:59): apparmor=DENIED
 operation=mknod parent=1 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld
 name=/srv/mysql/caes-srv-00.lower-test pid=30379 comm=mysqld
 requested_mask=c denied_mask=c fsuid=0 ouid=0
 [ 8232.324158] type=1400 audit(1314483729.470:60): apparmor=DENIED
 operation=mknod parent=1 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld
 name=/srv/mysql/caes-srv-00.lower-test pid=30379 comm=mysqld
 requested_mask=c denied_mask=c fsuid=0 ouid=0
 [ 8232.326361] type=1400 audit(1314483729.470:61): apparmor=DENIED
 operation=open parent=1 profile=/usr/sbin/mysqld
 name=/srv/mysql/mysql/plugin.frm pid=30379 comm=mysqld requested_mask=r
 denied_mask=r fsuid=1003 ouid=1003

 To support this move you would need to update
 /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld - use the configuration for
 /var/lib/mysql as a guide.

 I can't tell from the attachments what failed when you tried to
 uninstall mysql-server. It looks like its still installed by not
 configured - please could you try removing it again and attach the
 output to this bug report.

 Marking importance as 'Low' as I think this is related to the move of
 /var/lib/mysql and 'Incomplete' pending your response.

 Thanks

[Bug 833542] Re: samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2011-09-03 Thread Clint Byrum
Ramon, thanks for the quick response. Can you try this now:

testparm -s  --parameter-name='disable netbios'

If the output looks like this:

$ testparm -s --parameter-name='disable netbios'
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)
Processing section [printers]
Processing section [print$]
Loaded services file OK.
No

Then also try just running 'testparm' and paste the full output of
that.

Also ls -l /var/run
