Re: [Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)
Excerpts from Lucio M Nicolosi's message of Fri Sep 02 18:25:19 UTC 2011: @ Clint, A long time ago I also reported this bug for Maverick 64. Others reported for Natty an now Oneiric. Tired of waiting for a solution, successfully applied the patch explained at #18 to both my Mav and Natty installs. Wouldn't be easier to acknowledge that this bug isn't fixed at all than opening a new thread? First, Thanks for sticking with us Lucio! I know it can be frustrating when something just isn't working the way you'd expect it to. There is a lot of noise attached to this, and it was indeed fixed at one point by the developer. What has happened is likely a regression, or even possibly an entirely different set of circumstances that lead to the same bad end. We may find that the original fix never took, but your extra bug reports with versions and descriptions will help us nail down how this slipped through and hopefully help to prevent the problem from recurring. There's no reason to get attached to this particular bug report at all. I know its much easier to just comment on this existing bug than to open up a terminal and run 'ubuntu-bug cups' again, but that will help us a great deal, even if we end up marking your new report as a duplicate of this one. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/494141 Title: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/494141/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Okay, let me see if i can touch on all of your points here. [Bug 329067] Re: Cannot change password on ldap client, need to have 'try_authtok' in the pam config or libpam-cracklib installed
It might be of value to note that the try_authtok option for the pam_ldap.so library ist neither documented nor used, producing in the /var/log/auth.log the following line : illegal option try_authtok. Since illegal options are ignored, it produces exactly the same behaviour as simply removing use_authtok altogether. [Bug 840474] [NEW] Can't connect via samba from Vbox XP Guest when restricting IP with hosts allow in smb.conf
Public bug reported: lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Release:10.04 apt-cache policy samba samba: Installed: 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7 Candidate: 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7 Version table: *** 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3.7 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 2:3.4.7~dfsg-1ubuntu3 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages I'm assuming this is a bug, as it worked before. I have a WinXP VirtualBox guest that I like to share folders with via samba (please don't suggest using the VBox shares option as a workaround). In the past, I was able to restrict access to just the XP Guest via hosts allow = 192.168.56.0/255.255.255.0 in the smb.conf file, as the vboxnet0 interface is on that IP range (it's 192.168.1.101). bind interfaces only = true is commented out, as are all interfaces lines. At some point (I'm not sure when, as I don't use the XP Guest that frequently) this stopped working. If I comment out the hosts allow line such that access is available for everyone, then the XP Guest can connect. I have the same problem if I comment out hosts allow and have bind interfaces only = true interfaces = lo vboxnet0 The first setup listed has worked previously, so I'm filing it as a bug. Again, by simply changing the smb.conf by commenting out the hosts allow line and restarting samba, I have access to the shares (so the shares are being put up properly), and I'm asked for my samba username and password when accessing from the guest, so I think that end of it is behaving properly. There seems to be something wrong with how it's set up to filter on IP or interface. [Bug 494141] Re: CUPS starts after SAMBA; printers are not available (convert cups to upstart)
Clint, In the new bug report, please consider that contrary to the stated at #30 (Martin Pitt) : For lucid, ... samba reloads the printers every 750 seconds anyway, so it's just a matter of waiting... At least for some hardware configurations it doesn't happen for Maverick, Natty and Oneiric (as seen by the previous posts) Also, please repost the working solution at #18 so that until a permanent solution is released, faulty systems can be easily patched. [Bug 695556] Re: Asterisk locks up the system when an external process is called from the 'h' extension with a lower priority than Asterisk
Apologies this has taken so long for someone to look at this bug. I haven't quite understood the importance of this bug, i've currently set it as Medium as it doesn't seem it has a valid work around. It would be most useful if a minimal test case could be documented on how to encounter this bug, as the one documented upstream seems unclear to me. It would seem that this is resolved in the current Ubuntu development version Oneiric, so marking the main task as Fix Released and opening a task for Lucid. If it affects other releases, please propose for the relevant versions. [Bug 840648] [NEW] NumLock doesn't engage when entering X session
Public bug reported: I'm using Oneiric Beta 1, and the open-vm-tools packaging from the Oneiric main repo. I'm in the process of getting the August packaging ready for upload/proposal. After logging into the X session (after login), the NumLock doesn't engage (I thought this was a bug in the July packages, which would be fixed in the August packaging, but I was wrong) NumLock has previously engaged after I installed the Tools (The March packaging backward). I don't know if I nicked something when doing the work on the July release. Right now, my solution to this problem is installing NumLockX. I was going to put the package as a suggested package in the August release, but I wanted a second opinion. I want to know if I'm the only one encountering this or not? If I'm not the only one, I want to know: 1) Are there any other packages encountering this issue (like Bug #836277)? 2) A fix to the problem (which I'll add to my packaging), or whether my solution is good enough (adding NumLockX as a suggested (or even a Recommended) package). ** Affects: open-vm-tools (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/840648 Title: NumLock doesn't engage when entering X session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/840648/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 695556] Re: Asterisk locks up the system when an external process is called from the 'h' extension with a lower priority than Asterisk
The problem always arises if I try to execute a skript in the 'h' extension. [Bug 833542] Re: samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Ramon, thanks for the quick response. Can you try this now: testparm -s --parameter-name='disable netbios' If the output looks like this: $ testparm -s --parameter-name='disable netbios' Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384) Processing section [printers] Processing section [print$] Loaded services file OK. No Then also try just running 'testparm' and paste the full output of that. Also ls -l /var/run -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/833542 Title: samba 2:3.5.8~dfsg-1ubuntu2.3 failed to upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/833542/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
