[Bug 670289] Re: Laptop won't shut down with rabbitmq running

2011-11-16 Thread Sampo Savolainen
I have the same exact problem. Poweroff just goes back to the login
screen with I assume part of the OS services shut down. The only way to
cleanly power off is to log in and do sudo /sbin/poweroff now.

What is the root cause here? Wrong service shutdown order?

[Bug 670289] Re: Laptop won't shut down with rabbitmq running

2011-11-16 Thread Simon MacMullen
So it sounds like NetworkManager is making changes to /etc/hosts that
are confusing Rabbit. To help figure out if this is the problem, can
anyone experiencing this on 11.10 tell me:

* What does ping ${hostname} look like when networking is up?
* What does ping ${hostname} look like when networking is down?

[Blueprint servercloud-p-complex-deployment-testing] Automated Complex Server Deployment Testing

2011-11-16 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
- Scope: Deployment and Testing of Ubuntu Server to support complex
requirements i.e. OpenStack + others
- Coverage:
-   - OpenStack
-   - Wiki + Database + Memcache + Load Balancer
-   - Networking File Systems
-   - Samba + LDAP or Kerberos Backend
-   - Backup solutions - bacula?
-   - Ruby on Rails stack
+ Summary Objective for Precise:

- UDS-O - Complex Deployment Scenarios:
+ 1) OpenStack deployment testing in the Ubuntu QA Lab on hardware

- Method: orchestra+juju AND cloud+juju
+ This objective is to get OpenStack deployment testing automated for
+ Precise on hardware using Juju and Orchestra.

- james-page proposed a method for testing juju charms on juju@l.u.c - see
- https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/juju/2011-October/000837.html
+ 2) Other Complex Deployment Testing

- This involves a new charm when can test other charms - results are then
collated and can be reported on.
- This is then executed by a framework (TBN) which set's up the juju
environment and services, executes the charm testing and then can execute tests
on the deployed environment.
- I think this is the right way todo this testing - it can be used with any
juju provider so can be applied in both physical and cloud environments.
-
- Frequency:
-  - Daily Test with current development release
-  - Triggered when key packages change in released versions of Ubuntu in
-proposed?
-
- Questions/Proposals:
- [james-page] We need to verify the list of deployments and get volunteers to
develop charms for them where gaps exist.
+ The framework developed through this blueprint in conjunction with
+ servercloud-p-juju-charm-testing should also support other complex
+ deployment testing.

  Work Items:
- Develop juju charm testing framework to support all requirements: TODO
- Writing testing hooks for all charms which we want to test this way: TODO
- Setup OpenStack test lab: TODO
- Identify OpenStack testing requirements on the deployed service: TODO
-
- Stuff left from UDS-O not covered in other specs
-
-
- b) Package Removal Testing:
-
- - install services
- - start services
- - check services
- - stop services
- - uninstall services
- - re-install same services
- - start re-check services
-
- d) Automated Boot Testing:
-
- Minimal install - startup and shutdown OK
- Full install - startup and shutdown OK
- Complete upgrade and then re-test.
-
- f) Recovery Testing:
-
- Recovery Mode Testing:
-
-
- aquette propose a method to automate testing of power infrastructure (UPS,
power distribution units and servers power supplies):
-
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-bugcontrol/qa-regression-testing/master/view/257//scripts/test-nut.py
+ [james-page] Develop juju charm testing framework to support this
requirement: INPROGRESS
+ [james-page] Setup OpenStack test lab: INPROGRESS

[Bug 556167] Re: vmbuilder uses parted to create disk images, which leads to broken sector counts (cannot use grub2 on disk images created by vmbuilder/parted)

2011-11-16 Thread Kees Cook
Hm, I don't agree. I think the problem is in libparted/arch/linux.c
init_file():

dev-bios_geom.sectors = 32;

vs _device_probe_geometry() which defaults to what the LBA reports or:

dev-bios_geom.sectors = 63;

So, when vmbuilder uses parted to build the disk, parted treats the disk
file differently than it would a real LBA mode drive. Fixing this is the
core cause of the problem, as far as I see it.

[Bug 556167] Re: vmbuilder uses parted to create disk images, which leads to broken sector counts (cannot use grub2 on disk images created by vmbuilder/parted)

2011-11-16 Thread Phillip Susi
The bios geometry just shouldn't matter. Sure, it is odd that it uses a
different geometry for an image file than a disk, but whether the
nonsensical geometry specifies 63 or 32 or 3 sectors per track,
partitions are supposed to have a 1mb alignment these days. This is
what you get if you specify the start position as 0%, so it doesn't make
sense for the free space check to advertise a lower position as a valid
start, especially when you get a warning exception when you try to use
it, which I guess is ignored by vmbuilder.

nutznboltz, typically we require somebody who wasn't the developer

fine with the same fix.

[Bug 891204] Re: Essential configuration in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf commented out

2011-11-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to submit this bug.

I can't reproduce this on oneiric, but I suspect the problem is that
/dev/kvm is not owned by group kvm. Could you confirm this by showing
the result of 'ls -l /dev/kvm' ?

If that is the case, then a reboot (or manual chown) should fix this,
but this was supposed to have been fixed and is a regression in qemu-
kvm.

[Bug 838974] Re: Confusing error report for missing vde support

2011-11-16 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

That certainly could be confusing. However, practically speaking, since
qemu was compiled without that support, it becomes more difficult for
qemu to tell the difference between a unsupported but otherwise-valid
type, and an invalid type.

Perhaps upstream would accept a (trivial) patch changing the message to
always say expects a valid network client type. Even more helpful
would be for that message to be followed by a list of valid, supported
network types.

  AGENDA
  - What is XCP and Kronos?
  - Current state of Project Kronos
  - Work remaining (porting and packaging)
  - Ubuntu next-steps?

  - Could we used clustered LVM instead of our own version? Perhaps, but we
haven't investigated that yet.
  - Can we ship XCP's modified LVM with Ubuntu? Yes, it is concievable that
this could work. Some patchs coud even be upstreamed, but likely not all of
them.

[Bug 877040] Re: Can't login to 11.10 if autofs is used to mount network directories

2011-11-16 Thread Albenic
One more with this bug. That's really a problem.
Any solution at this time ?
In my case, I can connect to my NAS via ssh with a public/private key system
and I can mount manually a directory from my NAS.
But with autofs it doesn't work (I do not change anything to my files
auto.master and auto.sshfs and with this files, it worked fine with 11.04).

[Bug 763467] Re: SIOCGMIIREG errors on e1000e interface

2011-11-16 Thread jure
I also got the same messages:
Keepalived_vrrp: SIOCGMIIREG on eth2 failed: Input/output error
Keepalived_healthcheckers: SIOCGMIIREG on eth2 failed: Input/output error

on this nic, even though I'm not using it for keepalived:
1c:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82572EI Gigabit Ethernet
Controller (Copper) (rev 06)

The problem is that I got about 30 error msgs/day in syslog, so it
would fill up the syslog database.

Upgrading to 1.1.20 from upstream fixes the problem.
