[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop
Blueprint changed by James Page: Whiteboard changed: Target versions of Hadoop components: hadoop-0.20.205.0 hcatalog-0.2.0 pig-0.9.0 hbase-0.90.4 hive-0.7.1 # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+ which includes fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should be able to overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project zookeeper-3.3.2 Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari assumptions? A: No idea - one to ask Matt Package naming: - hdp-hadoop - hdp-hcatalog - hdp-pig - hdp-hbase - hdp-hive - hdp-zookeeper - * The hdp prefix comes from Hortonworks terminology: Hortonworks Data Platform (though they are obviously reinforcing connectedness to hadoop itself.) + hadoop + hcatalog + pig + hbase + hive + + Needs confirmation (conflicts with archive): + + zookeeper Assumptions: Packaging will use bigtop as a base. - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju charms as and when they support precise. Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process. Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process. Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we create. Patches may be required for native build components. Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be applied where appropriate. --- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default). Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ... Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g. ./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar? A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just re-use these jars etc... Challenges: hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches) JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth re-using. java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu (generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro). Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration option to secure a cluster. Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If so, I can do the charm work.j Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts. MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must. Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow (maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution). hcatalog: External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql? No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to produce release tarbal. [Bug 917309] Re: brcompatd works with brctl delif but doesn't with addif
I don't want brcompat to control the bridge module. I want brcompat to make it possible to REPLACE the bridge kernel module with an OvS switch. Maybe I wasnt very clear on my environment. I have a host machine running the Xen Hypervisor. Xen Hypervisor works with bridged networking by setting a bridge named xenbr0 with the network interface IP and connecting it to the IP-less network interface. This way, every VM started becomes connected to the xenbr0 bridge along with the physical interface as gateway. I want to make this xenbr0 bridge an OvS switch. That's why I must have a /etc/network/interfaces entry for the xenbr0 bridge, to configure its IP accordingly. I tried blacklisting the bridge module in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf, but after restarting the bridge module is still raising. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openvswitch in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/917309 Title: brcompatd works with brctl delif but doesn't with addif To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openvswitch/+bug/917309/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 915490] Re: mysql server cannot start with apparmor enabled
Thank you for using Ubuntu and reporting a bug. Newer versions of Ubuntu use /run instead of /var/run now, so AppArmor profiles need to be adjusted accordingly. The AppArmor profile for mysql (from the mysql-5.1 source package) in 12.04 already includes the following line: /{,var/}run/mysqld/mysqld.sock w, Because 'w' covers 'c'reat, I am going to mark this bug as Invalid. It sounds like on upgrade you chose to use the old profile (in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld) without merging in the new changes from updated profile in 12.04. If this is in error, please reopen and please don't hesitate to file any other bugs you may find. ** Package changed: apparmor (Ubuntu) = mysql-5.1 (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: mysql-5.1 (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.1 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915490 Title: mysql server cannot start with apparmor enabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.1/+bug/915490/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 879666] Re: chown error for console.fifo when launching vm
I think that this might have been caused by an erroneous merge. Untested, but it looks obvious to me what the fix should be. I've attached it. But because it's a race, it will be difficult to test the fix itself. I think it's only realistic to test that this doesn't break anything. What's the status of this in precise, as upstream will not accept the console fifo security fix? Does this issue exist in precise also? For this reason I'm not sure what to do about the SRU procedure here. ** Attachment added: debdiff https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/879666/+attachment/2678841/+files/debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879666 Title: chown error for console.fifo when launching vm To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nova/+bug/879666/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 915971] Re: New command guestmount
guestmount (from libguestfs) was added as a method for mounting disk images before doing operations on them. By default Nova tries to use loop, then nbd, then guestfs (you can change the order using the 'img_handlers' flag). For COW images, it skips loop... So it could be possible that you used COW images, hit an issue with NBD and stumbled on the libguestfs code. If for some reason guestmount can't be packaged in Ubuntu (or is an unreasonable dependency), I guess we could set img_handlers = [ 'loop', 'nbd' ] in the nova.conf file we ship to avoid trying using guestmount and error on the NBD failure instead... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/915971 Title: New command guestmount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openstack-ppa/+bug/915971/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 44166] [NEW] No NTP-Sync during bootup if /usr on different filesystem
You have been subscribed to a public bug: During the bootup of Dapper Drake Beta 2 (with all available updates installed) the /etc/init.d/networking script is called and it initializes my network interface eth0 correctly. But for some reason ifup, which is called by the networking script, doesn't execute /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate. I noticed this since, after several reboots, a timedrift has occured. The somehow strange part of this bug is, that it only appears during bootup. If the system is running and I execute sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart the ntpdate script gets called and the time gets synced. I should add that I have a flawless, permanent internet connection, so this bug is not related to a misconfigured router or NIC configuration. I added the line /usr/bin/logger ntpdate called to the ntpd script, to confirm my theory. After a reboot ntpdate called doesnt appear in the logs, but after running /etc/init.d/networking manually it appears. This bug was reproduceable on 3 different ubuntu installations. ** Affects: ntp (Ubuntu) Importance: Low Status: Confirmed -- No NTP-Sync during bootup if /usr on different filesystem https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/44166 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

The attachment debdiff of this bug report has been identified as being a patch in the form of a debdiff. [Bug 916494] Re: Please put ipxe.krn to the desktop CD
I'd love to see your iPXE boot script. The easiest version is this: #!ipxe # We do assume that a DHCP server exists on the local network, e.g. a home router autoboot # The rest only happens if no local *boot* server exists kernel http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/linux initrd=initrd.gz initrd http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/initrd.gz boot You save the above as netboot.ipxe, and you load it from isolinux as an initrd of ipxe.lkrn: linux16 ipxe.lkrn initrd netboot.ipxe (from some date in December and on, iPXE supports scripts as initrds) In the URL above, the webmaster can maintain a dists/current symlink so that precise isn't hardcoded. A better idea would be to load pxelinux.0 instead of directly loading a kernel. This would allow for displaying a vesamenu, with which the user could graphically select from any supported distro series. Unfortunately that would require a public tftp server, which webmasters may not like. Instead, gpxelinux.0 could do the same over http, but I've never used that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ipxe in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916494 Title: Please put ipxe.krn to the desktop CD To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ipxe/+bug/916494/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Negron: Whiteboard changed: Target versions of Hadoop components: hadoop-0.20.205.0 hcatalog-0.2.0 pig-0.9.0 hbase-0.90.4 hive-0.7.1 # the script I got from Hortonworks labels this as hive-0.7.1+ which includes fixes to hive. - Yes - we might need to look at that - we should be able to overlay the fixes if need be without rebuilding the entire project zookeeper-3.3.2 Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari assumptions? A: No idea - one to ask Matt Package naming: hadoop hcatalog pig hbase hive Needs confirmation (conflicts with archive): zookeeper Assumptions: Packaging will use bigtop as a base. [Bug 917832] Re: init script and upstart job named apache2.1 instead apache2
This is likely this bug in logrotate: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/logrotate/+bug/387189 According to that bug it should be fixed in lucid, though. Do you have logrotate 3.7.8-4ubuntu2.1 or newer installed? [Bug 916200] Re: missing kernel module ipmi_si module
@Asif Get the apport data any way you can. I merely offered a popular manner to accomplish it. Also, please don't change bug states without justification. The point of Incomplete is part of the bug triage process where a developer has posed a question etc and is waiting for that request to be satisfied. It doesn't lower the priority of your issue, in fact it draws more attention to it.
