[Bug 932788] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10 failed to install/upgrade: el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de salida de error 1

2012-02-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Horacio, thank you for taking the time to file this bug report.

Configurando mysql-server-5.1 (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.10) ...
mysql stop/post-start, (post-start) process 26238
frontend: Fatal IO error 9 (Descriptor de fichero erróneo) on X server :0.0.
dpkg: error al procesar mysql-server-5.1 (--configure):
el subproceso instalado el script post-installation devolvió el código de
salida de error 1

It looks like the configuration system had a hard time communicating
with you via the Graphical User Interface (GUI), X.

Can you please try 'sudo dpkg --configure -a'

to see if that resolves the issue?

Marking Incomplete pending response.

[Bug 938485] [NEW] No keystrokes are sent - no outgoing serial

2012-02-22 Thread AndreK
Public bug reported:

minicom, while connected to for example /dev/ttyUSB0 - displays
incoming data.

*no* keystrokes are sent out.
When closing minicom - some data is sent (a TX led will flash shortly)
- the same hardware works fine with sercom, cutecom etc - but I miss minicom.
-Reproduced this problem on three computers. - not sure when it was
introduced, but it worked before.

to reproduce, take any RS232 adapter and connect TX to RX, (or pin 2-3) - you
should see what you write without local echo, or get double characters with
local echo when TX is connected to RX

[Bug 721514] Re: Samba should be more selective when importing accounts

2012-02-22 Thread Uwe Menges
I just hit the same situation. The solution described (with getent -s
compat passwd) wouldn't work there because they actually have passwd:
compat in /etc/nsswitch.conf and a +:: line in /etc/passwd. The
smbpasswd was already 2MiB large as I killed the import process.

Can you please un-automate / unbundle the import accounts task from
the software installation task? I just want to install samba, please.
Nothing more.

If I want to import remote users locally, I can do after installation.
If I want to connect samba to Active Directory, I *must* do it after
installation.

[Bug 938699] [NEW] nova-compute runaway memory allocation

2012-02-22 Thread Andrew Glen-Young
Public bug reported:

This morning I upgraded my Openstack hosts to the latest packaged
version of the nova packages. After the upgrade some of the compute node
machines were rather unresponsive.

After investigation it became apparent that nova-compute was nearly
exhausting the node's memory. I captured as much data as I dared before
having to terminate the process.

The symptoms seem to have gone away after restarting nova-compute again.
This occured on three of five compute nodes, but I was unable to
reproduce (yet) after restarting nova-compute.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-hdp-hadoop] Ubuntu Server - Hadoop

2012-02-22 Thread James Page
Blueprint changed by James Page:

Whiteboard changed:
  Status 20122501

Dev packages avaliable for hadoop, hive, pig, hbase and hadoop-zookeeper
  in http://launchpad.net/~hadoop-ubuntu/+archive/dev

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hadoop-ubuntu/dev

  Target versions of Hadoop components:

- hadoop-0.20.205.0
+ hadoop-1.0.0
  hcatalog-0.2.0
- pig-0.9.0 (0.9.1)
- hbase-0.90.4
- hive-0.7.1 (? 0.8.1 is out and should be compatible with hcatalog 0.2.0)
- zookeeper-3.3.2 (3.3.4)
+ pig-0.9.1
+ hbase-0.92.0
+ hive-0.8.1
+ zookeeper-3.4.3

Q: Their website indicates they will use ambari as something
devops/juju-like. Clearly we want to use juju but have they made any ambari
assumptions?
A: No idea - one to ask Matt

  Package naming:

  hadoop
  hcatalog
  pig
  hbase
  hive

Packages that target partner CANNOT have the same name as packages in
the main archive so zookeeper will be:

  hadoop-zookeeper

This will prevent and conflicts with the zookeeper package in the main
  archive.

  Assumptions:

Packaging will use bigtop as a base.
   - reuse of control file structure will help support bigtop packages in juju
charms as and when they support precise.
Java will NOT be rebuilt during the package build process.
Native libraries will be rebuilt during the package build process.
Q: What does this mean for the hive embedded in hcatalog (via
hcatalog-0.2.0/hive/external)? I'm guessing we just use the hdp-hive package we
create.
Patches may be required for native build components.
Debconf configuration in packages is useful for Juju charms and should be
applied where appropriate.
--- Debconf currently in use: namenode, jobtracker and hdfs_dir
Binary distributions will be used from upstream (no source build by default).
Q: Exactly what does this mean in this context? Binary distributions of ...
Are these the jar files inside the hortonworks/apache source (e.g.
./hive-0.7.1+/lib/javaewah-0.3.jar?
A: So most of the apache projects ship a binary distribution tarball which
includes all of the compile Java etc so we should not build from source - just
re-use these jars etc...

  Challenges:

hcatalog not packaged in bigtop trunk (need to check branches)
  JAVA_HOME and use of openjdk-6/7? JAVA_HOME detection - bigtop use a
specific package for this (bigtop-utils) which tries to guess - might be worth
re-using.
java-package as recommended approach to re-packaging Oracle java for Ubuntu
(generates Debian packaging from upstream binary distro).
Kerberos security - probably actually needs to be a charm configuration
option to secure a cluster.
Q: For Kerberos, do we have the necessary dependencies to get this done? If
so, I can do the charm work.j
Q: Re: Kerberos. We may need to really look into this as this will end up
affecting not only hadoop but, all of the other parts ( hive, pig, etc. ) as
well. This can really complicate the packaging/charming as well so, we may not
have time to get it all done in this cycle. Just my thoughts.
MultiArch native libraries in hdp-hadoop package - should not must.
Hive contains patches for hcatalog support - we need to work these in somehow
(maybe a overlay to the binary re-distribution).

  hcatalog:
External dependency on mysql-connector? and maybe mysql?
No binary distribution - only source so will need to be built locally to
produce release tarbal.

[Bug 919068] Re: bridge_ports all doesn't work at boot time

2012-02-22 Thread Stéphane Graber
An SRU has been uploaded to Ubuntu 11.10 fixing some timing issues at
boot time.

Can you make sure your system is fully up to date including bridge-utils
at version 1.5-2ubuntu1.1?

If the problem still happens after that, the following would probably be useful:
 - ls -l /run/network/
 - initctl list
 - /var/log/kernel.log
 - /var/log/syslog
 - ip link show
 - ip addr show
 - brctl show

Thanks

[Bug 908905] Re: upstart problems with S20squid script

2012-02-22 Thread Clint Byrum
b1, what version of Ubuntu did you dist-upgrade from? I think this may
be a problem when upgrading from a version where upstart does not
control squid (likely 8.04 (hardy) or 9.10 (karmic)). The packaging
needs to remove these symlinks before installing the new upstart-
compatibility symlink in /etc/init.d.

[Bug 935190] Re: package rabbitmq-server 2.3.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-02-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Hi rahul. Can you make sure your hostname is resolvable?

try

ping `hostname`

RabbitMQ will refuse to start up if your hostname is not resolvable.
From your error message, it looks like your hostname is 'openstack-Chef-
Server'. Newer versions of rabbitmq handle this a bit more gracefully
btw.

[Bug 876458] Re: dnsmasq started before all interfaces are up

2012-02-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Thomas, thanks for the updates. I think you have a pretty complicated
setup, and we can't necessarily cater to such a setup in the packaging
given the number of options dnsmasq has. There's a path for other users
with a similar setup to yours, and that is --listen-interface.

Closing this as Invalid, but please feel free to re-open it if you feel
there is more we can do in Ubuntu to address the issue.

If it is not, rabbitmq has a hard time starting up. Consider putting

Distributor ID: Ubuntu

I have a VM-Snapshot of the system before the update and the failure is
always reproducable. Since there is now private Data on that Machine

Actually, I take that back. I think I got lucky ... it didn't fix the
problem for me. I may not be having the same problem, though.

[Blueprint servercloud-p-juju-charm-testing] Juju: automated testing of charms

2012-02-22 Thread Clint Byrum
Blueprint changed by Clint Byrum:

Whiteboard changed:

handle on the scope of work.

  Work Items:
[clint-fewbar] write spec for charm testing facility: DONE

deploy testing framework for use against ec2: TODO
deploy testing framework for use against canonistack: TODO

- [mark-mims] basic charm tests... just test install hooks for now: INPROGRESS
+ [mark-mims] basic charm tests... just test install hooks for now: DONE

  Session notes:
  Welcome to Ubuntu Developer Summit!
  #uds-p #track #topic
  put your session notes here
Requirements of automated testing of charms:
  * LET'S KEEP IT SIMPLE! :-)
  * Detect breakage of a charm relating to an interface
  * Identification of individual change which breaks a given relationship
  * Maybe implement tests that mock a relation to ensure implementers are
compliant
  * Test dependent charms when a provider charm changes
  * Run test NxN of providers and requirers so all permutations are sane
(_very_ expensive, probably impossible)
  * Run testing against multiple environment providers (EC2/OpenStack/BareMetal)
  * Notify maintainers when the charm breaks, rather than waiting for polling
  * Verify idempotency of hooks
  * Tricky to _verify_, and not an enforced convention at the moment, so
not sure
  * be able to specify multiple scenarios
  * For functional tests, they are in fact exercising multiple charms. Should
those sit
within the charms, or outside since it's in fact exercising the whole graph?
    * The place for these composed tests seem to be the stack
  * As much data as possible should be collected about the running tests so
that a broken
charm can be debugged and fixed.
  * Provide rich artifacts for failure analysis
  * Ideally tests will be run in lock step mode, so that breaking charms can
be individually
identified, but this is hard because changes may be co-dependent
  * It would be nice to have interface-specific tests that can run against any
charms that
implement such interfaces. In addition to working as tests, this is also a
pragmatic
    way to document the interface.
  * support gerrit-like topics?  (What's that? :-) i.e., change-sets (across
different branches)
  * We need a way to know which charms trigger which tests
  * Keep it simple
  * James mentioned he'd like to have that done by Alpha 1 (December) so that
he can take
that into account for the OpenStack testing effort.
  ACTIONS:
  [niemeyer] spec
  [james-page] add openstack tests

Proposal below is too complicated, rejected (Kept for posterity)

  Proposal:

Each charm has a tests directory

  Under tests, you have executables:

__install__ -- test to run after charm is installed with no relations

  Then two directories:
  provides/
  requires/

These directories have a directory underneath for each interface
provided/required. Those directories contain executables to run.

The test runner follows the following method:

  deploy charm
  wait for installed status
run __install__ script, FAIL if exits non-zero
  destroy service
for interface in provides ; do
calculate graph of all charms in store which require interface and all of
its dependency combinations
deploy requiring charm w/ dependencies and providing service
  add-relation between requiring/providing
for test in provides/interface ; do
run test with name of deployed requiring service
for interface in requires ; do
repeat process above with provides/requires transposed

Each commit to any branch in charm store will queue up a run with only
that change applied, none that have been done after it, and record
  pass/fail

  - No stable release branches upstream
  - Limited deployment outside Dreamhost

  Additional Opportunities:
  - Integrate tightly with OpenStack in packaging
  - Add support for ceph in juju openstack charms
  - BTRFS ideal, XFS also working well, ext4 missing large xattr support
  - Upstream asserts that CEPH is under heavy development (cmdline programs
remind user at every execution)

quotaon: Cannot find quota file on / [/dev/sda1] to turn quotas on/off.

dpkg: error processing quota (--configure):

could you try

sudo stat /home/carls/.gvfs

and show us the result? I'm afraid it sounds like your filesystem may
in fact be corrupt.

Using the wrong case means the roles simply will not work..

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

Looking at precise and lucid versions, it looks like the dovecot-common

Thanks for reporting this bug.

The error message you pointed to:

chown: invalid user: `proxy\r:winbindd_priv\r'

suggests that if you edit /etc/squid3/squid.conf you should find lines
without a trailing newline. Adding newlines should solve this problem.
Could you post your /etc/squid3/squid.conf to this bug?

Seems that upgrading from 11.10 on a daily build is not the best thing

If it is not, rabbitmq has a hard time starting up. Consider putting
