[Bug 781088] Re: Time is not syncronized with NTP-server
I'm having the same problem in 11.10; my clock is almost always 9 or 10 minutes fast. For me, it's been happening since I relocated from the midwest (U.S.) to France. When I run ntpdate, I get the following: someone@someone-UBook:~$ ntpdate 5 Mar 09:35:46 ntpdate[14926]: no servers can be used, exiting Occasionally, when I would manually change a setting with the time applet on the unity bar (any setting, not necessarily the time), it would update but be off at the next boot if not sooner. Yes, I'm on precise Note that really libcgroup and libvirt do not work together anyway, due to a race at startup. We recommend cgroup-lite (which is in main) be used in its place. But libvirt starting after upgrades, when you have start_libvirt=no, is puzzling. Right now the daemon is running, but the main issue is that the upgrade itself is stuck at starting libvirt-bin when the package's postinst run, and I don't understand why. [Bug 946754] Re: dnsmasq does not respect/watch '/etc/hosts' updates
Had a reply from Simon Kelly (upstream). The worry is about race conditions and reading /etc/hosts or resolv.conf after the 'mtime' has been changed, but before the file has been completely written out (dnsmasq already tries to backoff and schedule a re-read a couple of seconds late if it finds an incomplete file). The preferred solution is for the process modifying the appropriate file to manually send: sudo killall -HUP dnsmasq to the process. Currently (on Ubuntu) dnsmasq is run as uid='nobody', so these needs elevated privileges (which are needed anyway for editing those files). This is okay for a human, but is less automatic than the previous situation where /etc/hosts was being watched. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to dnsmasq in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/946754 Title: dnsmasq does not respect/watch '/etc/hosts' updates To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dnsmasq/+bug/946754/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Blueprint servercloud-p-php54] PHP 5.4 for Ubuntu 12.04
Blueprint changed by Clint Byrum: Whiteboard changed: - Status: with 5.4.0 arriving after beta1, there is no conceivable way - that it can be shipped in 12.04 without potentially disrupting testing - efforts by early beta testers. 5.3 will be the PHP release in Ubuntu - 12.04. 5.4 will most *certainly* be shipped in precise+1, and should be - a good candidate for precise-backports. + Status: After some discussions with our release team and security team, + there is a strong desire to ship 5.4.0 rather than 5.3.10. I am in + agreement with this, and will make a push to setup a 5.4.0 PPA this week + and rally some testers. Work items: [ubuntu-server] In january, assess situation based on Debian status and decide 5.4 or 5.3 then: DONE - [clint-fewbar] maintain a merged 5.4 in a PPA for until archive decision is made: POSTPONED - [clint-fewbar] setup rebuilds for extensions that build-dep on php5-dev: POSTPONED + [clint-fewbar] maintain a merged 5.4 in a PPA for until archive decision is made: INPROGRESS + [clint-fewbar] setup rebuilds for extensions that build-dep on php5-dev: INPROGRESS [clint-fewbar] setup backport for lucid to allow wider PHP 5.4 testing before the upgrade: POSTPONED Question: Does this require discussion or just rubber stamping? -- Daviey Answer: It is not entirely clear whether 5.4.0 will be sufficiently similar to 5.3.x to include in this release. The more conservative approach is just to ship 5.3.9 or 5.3.10 and leave 5.4.0 for 12.10, but the PHP community is interested in weighing in on the issue and I'd also like to hear the security team's take on the matter. * provide packages for both precise and lucid in the ppa (or lucid-backports) so people can test before upgrade * provide rebuilt extensions against the new ABI Question: With both PHP 5.4.0 final and Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 1 released today, is it correct to assume that the chances of PHP 5.4 being shipped with Ubuntu 12.04 are basically non existant? -Clemens -- PHP 5.4 for Ubuntu 12.04 https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-p-php54 -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 947342] [NEW] euca-describe-instances should have additional fields in output
Public bug reported: At some point, ec2-describe-instances began showing ipaddress and private ipaddress in output. This would have been a sufficient fix to allow user to see IP address instead the ubuntu upstream-delta fix that I added by adding the '--ipv4' flag. Unfortunately, the documentation at http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AWSEC2/latest/CommandLineReference /ApiReference-cmd-DescribeInstances.html lists the output, but not consistently with the tools output, and not in enough detail to specifically see what *should* be output in each field. Here is output of ec2-api-tools 1.5.0.0 (2011-11-01 api), with tab replaced with '|'. The most interesting additional fields to me at the moment are private and public ip. [Bug 880339] Re: AppArmor profile needs update
Hi Jürgen, So I have tried to reproduce this bug again but have been unable to. However, the only thing that comes to my mind is that maybe amarok is probably installing a the datadir in a different path from the location that is usually used (./var/lib/mysql) or maybe trying to spawn its own mysql instances, and of course, apparmor prevents doing either of those. Could you verify the settings that amarok is using for mysql, and find out whether amarok is trying to use its own instance of mysql, or installing the databases in a different location. [Bug 947744] [NEW] $ anchor doesn't work in Directory ~ regexp
Public bug reported: $ (end-of-line anchor) seems to break regular expressions with the Directory config directive. The $ is not being treated literally, but it is not ignored either. If present, it seems to completely prevent matching. Steps to demonstrate: 1. Create the following test files in your tree (e.g. under /var/www/somewhere): echo should be protected foo.BAK mkdir dir.BAK echo should be protected dir.BAK/file echo should be readable french.BAKERY 2. Add to /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: # This is intended to prevent access to any *.BAK (or contents, if directory) # Note: We are using a regular expression, not wildcard syntax, and there is # no initial ^ anchor. Therefore it should match at the tail of any path. Directory ~ \.BAK$ Order allow, deny Deny from all Satisfy all /Directory 3. sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart 4. Try to access the files. wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/foo.BAK# should get permission denied, but succeeds wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/dir.BAK/file # should get permission denied, but succeeds wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/french.BAKERY # succeeds wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/'foo.BAK$' # fails, proving the $ does not match literally 5. Remove the trailing $ from the Directory ~ regex in apache2.conf, and restart the server 6. Test again: wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/foo.BAK# permission denied as expected wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/dir.BAK/file # permission denied as expected wget -O- http://localhost/somewhere/french.BAKERY # should succeed, but FAILS (because the regexp is not anchored at the end) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: apache2 2.2.20-1ubuntu1.2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-16.28-generic 3.0.17 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-16-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Apache2ConfdDirListing: ['other-vhosts-access-log', 'localized-error-pages', 'security', 'charset'] ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Mar 5 21:08:07 2012 InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111012) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: apache2 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.apache2.apache2.conf: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.apache2.apache2.conf: 2012-03-05T21:07:48.481293 ** Affects: apache2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to apache2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/947744 Title: $ anchor doesn't work in Directory ~ regexp To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apache2/+bug/947744/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 924739] Re: after upgrade from oneiric to precise, previous squid config unused, cannot be used when relocated
Matters are slightly more complicated because the existing squid packages (both the original squid(v2) and squid3) do not track squid.conf as a conffile, probably because the example configuration is generated at build time. After discussing the matter with several Ubuntu devs, it appears there are two possible solutions: 1. On upgrade, if the user had modified the original squid(2) configuration, raise a debconf dialog box that very loudly warns that the config may not be compatable after upgrade. 2. On upgrade, if the user has modified the original squid(2) configuration, transfer it to the new squid3 location and attempt to start squid3. If the config is compatable (that is, does not contain unsupported config options), squid3 should start successfully. If the user was using squid(2) features that are unsupported in squid3, the proxy will fail to start and cause upgrade errors. 3. Regardless of whether or not previous squid configuration has been modified, use the default squid3 configuration in all cases and start a unconfigured proxy. Perhaps backup the original squid for reference. In either case, matters are complicated by the fact that the example squid.conf shipped with either package is not tracked as a conffile by dpkg (it is generated at build time) To do any conffile handling mentioned above, we'll need to hard-code a list of hash sums in maintainer scripts that cover all previous releases of the squid package, and perhaps maintain this list over time if updates are SRU'd. The real question (as slangasek pointed out) is whether its better to have a broken proxy after dist-upgrade or an uncofigured proxy. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to squid3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924739 Title: after upgrade from oneiric to precise, previous squid config unused, cannot be used when relocated To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/squid3/+bug/924739/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
