[Bug 1011307] Re: dig(1) says that dig queries servers listed in resolv.conf, but this is not always the case

2012-06-11 Thread Thomas Hood
Yes, I also have no objection to the behavior. I think the man page
could be tweaked to be a little. Something like the following.

- If no server argument is provided, dig consults /etc/resolv.conf and
queries the name servers listed there.

+ If no server argument is provided, dig consults /etc/resolv.conf and
if an IPv4 or IPv6 address is found there (depending upon which
transport has been selected), queries the name server at that address.

[Bug 1011509] Re: can't login via ssh

2012-06-11 Thread yehudi
sshd is running.
ps ax | grep ssh
  907 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -D

What I noticed is that on other machines where I'm able to login his is the
output:
ps ax | grep ssh
  907 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/sbin/sshd -D
 1774 ?Ss 0:00 /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/dbus-launch
--exit-with-session gnome-session

As you can see there's also the ssh-agent which doesn't come out on the
other server.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Do you see any apparmor denials in
syslog? It might help to install auditd and then look through the
/var/log/audit/ files.

[Bug 1011603] Re: LXC-unshare network namespace segfaulting

2012-06-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

The problem is (I believe) that lxc-unshare isn't properly handling the
case where no arguments are specified. As a workaround, do

lxc-unshare -s NETWORK /bin/bash

and you'll get a root prompt in the new namespace.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-06-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Ok, looking back over the original description, the bug poster has an
eth0 mac address of d4:ae:52:84:2d:5a. I'm quite certain that is at
least a part of the problem - the bridge will always take the lowest mac
address of any device on it, and the nics on the VMs have lower mac
addresses. So any time a VM goes on or offline, the bridge mac address
will change, causing network traffic to pause.

Georg, please show 'ifconfig -a' output while the VMs are running

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-06-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
If the mac address of eth0 is the cause of your problem, then a (non-
ideal) workaround would be to use the stock NATed virbr0 for your VMs
instead, as it won't be bridged with eth0.

[Bug 1010602] Re: samba logs are not being reported in logwatch

2012-06-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. I appreciate the detail in your report.

We certainly do want the default supplied by the logwatch package to
match the default supplied by the samba package here, and it is clearly
a bug that it doesn't.

I don't know what samba.conf patch to deal with cores dir -mgt is
either, but it sounds to me like other files were ending up in
/var/log/samba so samba.conf was narrowed down, but unfortunately in a
way that does not match samba's default configuration.

It looks like samba upstream use log.* in their config examples, and
Debian uses this by default. This suggests to me that the bug is in the
logwatch upstream samba.conf, introduced in the revision that you
identified, as well as a bug in Debian in addition to Ubuntu.

So the appropriate place for this patch to go is upstream, and if they
reject it then Debian. Ubuntu will pick up the fix by proxy, and then we
can fix it in 12.04 if that is appropriate.

So to progress this bug, please can you forward this bug upstream?

2012-06-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

Do you know if Debian also has this bug? If so, the appropriate place to
fix it would be in Debian first. Ubuntu will then pick up the fix, and
once this is done it can be backported to 12.04 if appropriate.

[Bug 993663] Re: [SRU] dns_domains table mysql charset is 'latin1'. Should be 'utf8'

2012-06-11 Thread Chuck Short
** Impact **

Create a utf8 version of the dns_domains table.

The old dns_domains table was encoded in the 'latin1'
charset and has its primary key length set to 512.
This is too long to be a valid pkey in a proper 'utf8' encoded
table and seems to cause a slew of errors like:

1) Dumping a database with mysqldump and trying to import it fails
because this table is latin1 but fkeys to utf8 tables (projects).

2) Trying to alter the old dns_domains table fails with errors
like:
mysql ALTER TABLE dns_domains DROP PRIMARY KEY;
ERROR 1025 (HY000): Error on rename of './nova/#sql-6cf_855'

This patch creates an Essex fix that re-creates the dns_domains
table with a shorter 'domain' column which works with the utf8
charset. This database upgrade will run on MySQL databases only
which have a dns_domains table with a domain column length of
VARCHAR(512).

Fixes LP Bug #993663 on Essex.

** Development Fix **

This is fixed in the development trunk at
https://review.openstack.org/7139 and in quantal

** Stable Fix **

This is fixed in the stable/essex branch at
https://review.openstack.org/8356.

** Test Case **

1. Make a database backup of the nova database.
2. Drop the nova database.
3. Try to restore the database.

** Regression Impact **

Minimal this has been tested in the openstack-ci lab.

[Bug 1011371] Re: mysql 5.5.24, 5.1.63, 5.0.x security update tracking bug

2012-06-11 Thread sseitz
Regarding #2:
You're right. I've tried on identical 12.04 LTS 64bit.
Vulnurable on Xeon E5654
Not vulnurable on Xeon E5345
Both machines are paravirtualizes Xen DomU, so it looks like the system is
vulnurable by the availability of sse4 only. It looks like the existence of
Xen virtualizationlayer doesn't matter.

[Bug 1009717] Re: package samba-common 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-06-11 Thread Robie Basak
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

Please could you edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/samba-common.postinst and
replace set -e (near the top) with set -ex. Then run sudo dpkg
--configure --pending, and paste the results? This should show us
exactly which line is causing the problem. Once done, please change the
bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1011048] Re: python-boto sqs commands error with access denied

2012-06-11 Thread jserver
I probably wont' have a chance to test on dev for a week as I'm going on
holiday this week

but i did get around this bug

originally my code was like

q = conn.get_queue('queue_name')

instead I just did a

q = Queue(connection=conn, url='queue_url')

and that seems to work just fine

the first call does a Action=GetQueueUrl which seems to give the 403

hopefully that helps describe the problem a bit better, I'll revisit
next week

[Bug 1011640] Re: network configuration is not restored after host reboot

2012-06-11 Thread Yoann Dubreuil
Ok,

** Description changed:

After rebooting a host, nova-compute fails to restart guests VM because
- the network is not configured correctly. I have
- resume_guests_state_on_host_boot=true and
- start_guests_on_host_boot=true flags in /etc/nova/nova.conf
+ the interface used to create vlan is not UP. In our case, this interface
+ is not connected to a physical network and doesn't have an IP address,
+ so it's not configured on boot.

- nova-network crashs because it lacks brXXX and vlanXXX interfaces.
+ It could be good to start nova-network even if vlan interfaces cannot be
+ set up. Here, it crashes while trying to put a vlan interface UP, as you
+ can see in the attached log file

- To restart the guest, i wrote this script to configure the network as
- nova did when creating the guest :
+ For other people eventually affected by the problem, i initially wrote
+ this script to manually configure network so nova-network can start
+ successfully

  #!/bin/sh

  add_network() {
- BR=br$1
- VLAN=vlan$1
- LAN=$2
- BCAST=$3
- vconfig add eth1 $1
- brctl addbr $BR
- brctl setfd $BR 0
- brctl stp $BR off
- ip link set $BR up
- ip link show dev $BR
- brctl addif $BR $VLAN
- ip addr show dev $BR scope global
- ip addr add $LAN brd $BCAST dev $BR
+ BR=br$1
+ VLAN=vlan$1
+ LAN=$2
+ BCAST=$3
+ vconfig add eth1 $1
+ brctl addbr $BR
+ brctl setfd $BR 0
+ brctl stp $BR off
+ ip link set $BR up
+ ip link show dev $BR
+ brctl addif $BR $VLAN
+ ip addr show dev $BR scope global
+ ip addr add $LAN brd $BCAST dev $BR
  }

  vconfig set_name_type VLAN_PLUS_VID_NO_PAD

  add_network 100 172.16.0.4/24 172.16.0.255
  add_network 101 172.16.1.4/24 172.16.1.255
  add_network 102 172.16.2.4/24 172.16.2.255
  add_network 103 172.16.3.4/24 172.16.3.255
  add_network 104 172.16.4.4/24 172.16.4.255
-
- I think nova-network should recreate lacking interfaces (brXXX and
- vlanXXX) upon reboot to allow nova-compute to start guests

[Bug 1007493] Re: Broken logic in lxc-ubuntu causes lxc.devttydir to be set to 'lxc' only on releases that do NOT support it

2012-06-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lxc - 0.7.5-3ubuntu58

---
lxc (0.7.5-3ubuntu58) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  * Fix broken logic in lxc-ubuntu template where lxc.devttydir would be
set to 'lxc' only for releases that don't support it. (LP: #1007493)

lxc (0.7.5-3ubuntu57) precise-proposed; urgency=low

  [ Serge Hallyn ]
  * 0083-always-close-all-fds.patch: Have lxc-start always run with
--close-all-fds. There is no advantage to having lxc-start fail with
inherited fds. (LP: #1003583)
  * debian/lxc-net.upstart: don't put '()' after call to cleanup.
(LP: #1000174)

  [ Stéphane Graber ]
  * Sync lxc-ubuntu with the one in Quantal:
- Bugfixes:
+ Update list of extra packages for debootstrap to only include vim
and ssh. The others were only relevant when we were still using the
minbase variant. (LP: #996839)
+ Update default /etc/hosts to match that of a regular Ubuntu system.
(adds missing ipv6 aliases) (LP: #1004108)
+ Make sure /etc/resolv.conf is valid before running any apt command.
Fixes a potential race condition (no report of it at this time).

- Improvements we get by pulling the whole patch from Quantal.
These don't contain any user behaviour change but will make
cherry-picking any further change much easier.
+ Drop any hardcoded Ubuntu version check and replace by feature
checks instead. This removes the need for SRUs whenever we release
a new Ubuntu.
+ Format lxc-ubuntu to consistently use 4-spaces indent instead
of mixed spaces/tabs.
+ Update default /etc/network/interfaces to include the header.
+ Drop support for never supported releases (gutsy on sparc).
+ Update template help message for release and arch parameters.
Old string was only listing i386 and amd64, which is no longer
accurate (as of 12.04).
(This string isn't translated)
+ Switch default Ubuntu version from lucid to precise for systems
that don't have lsb_release (won't affect Ubuntu)

  * Sync lxc-start-ephemeral with the one in Quantal:
- Switch lxc-start-ephemeral from unreliable parsing of DHCP lease files
to using ip netns to retrieve the IP from the container's network
  namespace. (LP: #994752)
- Fix a race in lxc-start-ephemeral where the container isn't yet
running when trying to get its IPs.
- Update a few calls so that lxc-start-ephemeral can be called as a
user (ensure consistent usage of sudo across the script). (LP: #1004069)

2012-06-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1007533 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007533

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 1007533
