[Bug 974938] Re: Process gsettings prevents logging in

2012-07-31 Thread Olivier Cortès
Hi All,

I think this bug is a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/870874

I'm not sure and I will not mark it as such, but symptoms seems the
same: LDAP/NFS users, gsettings preventing session open with
blackscreen. Various workarounds seem to work with mitigated results
(installing nscd, removing /etc/X11/XSession.d/90qt-a11y…). For me,
disabling the XSession.d script worked the first time, then not the
subsequents. Did not try installing nscd yet, but caching LDAP results
is not an option, it will just hide/mask an underlying network problem
IMHO.

regards,
Olivier

Tested the new package from proposed, and everything worked as expected.
Tested an upgrade of the package with the wrong parameter in main.cf and

[Bug 894608] Re: Implementing a bridge slows 10G network

2012-07-31 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Mike Imelfort, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test
the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel
version specifically you tested and remove the 'needs-upstream-testing'
tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the
tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, please comment as to why
specifically you were unable to test it and add the tag: 'kernel-unable-
to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1031065] Re: cloud-init-nonet runs 'start networking' explicitly

2012-07-31 Thread Scott Moser
Some conversation in ubuntu-devel yesterday [1]. This seems to have
been caused by the fix for bug 800824. That change [2] was done to
address failure of networking to appear as started a container. Per
Steve, that looks like a wrong workaround for bug #925122.

Hopefully what that means is we can remove this code and lxc containers
still boot correctly even in precise (in which case we should probably
SRU that).

[2] http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~cloud-init-dev/cloud-init/trunk/revision/405

** Summary changed:

- /sbin/resolvconf -a depends on /run/resolvconf/interface but it may not exist
+ cloud-init-nonet runs 'start networking' explicitly

** Description changed:

In development of 'overlayroot' package, I was mounting / as rw in the
initramfs.
This was causing a different order of execution of mounts, and as a result a
different order of networking resolvconf and networking bringup.

It exposed a bug in resolvconf, which was being called on boot in this order:
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:58 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a lo.inet
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/dhclient-script
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a eth0.dhclient
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf -a eth0.inet
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /sbin/resolvconf --enable-updates
   Mon Jul 30 19:08:59 UTC 2012 /etc/resolvconf/update.d/libc -u

The normal order is for resolvconf --enable-updates to be called (from
/etc/init/resolvconf.conf) before anything else. As a result, I was seeing
errors like:
- resolvconf: Error: /run/resolvconf/interface either does not exist or is
not a directory
+   resolvconf: Error: /run/resolvconf/interface either does not exist or is
not a directory

This may be exposing a more grave issue, in that I believe the reason
for dhclient coming up before resolvconf.conf started was that it was
  being run as a result of /etc/init/network-interface.conf. I don't
immediately see how that is guarnateed to have /run ounted at all.

[Bug 800824] Re: cloud-init-nonet times out in lxc

2012-07-31 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

running an ubuntu cloud image under lxc will time out on network.

There has been lots of discussion on this, most recently in IRC on
ubuntu-cloud [1].
From memory, this is due to virtual-filesystems coming up after mounted=/ on
lxc. Because of that udev does not start, which means the network device event
never occurs which would bring up the network. The result is that the instance
boots, but times out for 70 seconds, and cloud-init doesn't do anything.

[Bug 1031395] [NEW] tomcat6 and tomcat7 are not installable side-by-side

2012-07-31 Thread Igor Galić
Public bug reported:

The two packages libtomcat6-java and libtomcat7-java are incompatible to
each other, and I don't understand why. Simply giving them different
paths could've solved this problem and let us run them side-by-side. We
still have many apps which target Tomcat 6, only the new ones are
targeting Tomcat 7 as a platform. It would be a great simplification if
we could install them on the same machines.

[Bug 980189] Re: [SRU] Database not upgraded while upgrading bacula

2012-07-31 Thread m1fcj
Hi Fabian,
I thought they were released by the maintainer to the wild. Apt-cache shows the
5.2.5-0ubuntu6.1 for the bacula-server version.

James Page's log shows
(http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~james-page/ubuntu/precise/bacula/fix-db-upgrade/revision/87#debian/rules)
that it is missing the upgrade script which looks like it is not running the
following:
/usr/share/dbconfig-common/data/bacula-director-mysql/upgrade/mysql/5.2.5-0ubuntu6.1

If you can check the file exists, you should be able to run it by hand
as a worst-case fallback.

[Bug 1014044] Re: PHP5-FPM not reporting errors to web server (nginx)

2012-07-31 Thread Thomas Ward
Assigned this to myself, as I will generate a debdiff for this so it can
be SRU'd.

** Description changed:

+ [TESTCASE]
+
+ * Cause PHP to throw an error, which would return a 403, 500, etc. Any
+ PHP error or warning should return a message to nginx or webserver error
+ logs. This does not occur, as intended, and was fixed upstream.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * The upstream patch (attached later in the bug) fixes this, and is a
+ targetted patch to resolve this issue. This patch was included in 5.4.x
+ which was in Debian, and synced to Ubuntu Quantal.
+
+ * Regression potential from this is very low, given it is a highly
+ specific patch.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * I fully plan to attach the upstream bug to here, within the next 20
+ minutes after the description change. I also plan on making the debdiff
+ later today after i get to a place where i have internet, as my
+ packaging system is not able to connect to the internet from work. --
+ Thomas Ward trekcaptainusa-tw
+
+ --
+
Since updating Ubuntu to 12.04, the included php version contains a bug
that causes errors to not be sent upstream to the web server. This error
is a regression from the version supplied with Ubuntu 11.10
  (5.3.6-13ubuntu3.7 0).

  Using php5-fpm version: 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.1

This bug has been reported and patched upstream, but has not yet been
included in a release:
  https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=61045

This bug makes running php5 in fastcgi mode on Ubuntu very problematic,
as errors are never reported to the nginx error.log, which impedes
debugging. This can be worked around by enabling an independent error
log in php.ini, but it would be much simpler for new users if this
  worked out of the box.

[Bug 1016895] Re: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in dump_core()

2012-07-31 Thread TJ
source3/auth/auth_util.c::create_local_token() will sometimes add an
erroneous GID token for the group ID -1, which is treated as an
'unsigned int' and converted to 4294967295 (S-1-22-2-4294967295) ,
resulting in a crash in the syscall to Linux's setgroups().

Additional DEBUG() statements in the source reveal the issue. I'm still

2012-07-31 Thread Thomas Ward
The debdiff for both this bug (LP Bug 1014044), and LP Bug 1006738 for
Precise is attached.

This was generated based off of the package in precise-security and
precise-updates, php5 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.2.

This debdiff includes patches based upstream for both bugs, and includes
a new changelog entry.

*** The patch for Bug 1006738 that is included with this debdiff originated
upstream. This upstream patch has already been applied upstream. This patch
will show up in Quantal after it exists in Debian, after a sync occurs. ***

Sponsors team: You will need to review both this bug, and LP Bug
1006738. Clint Byrum had suggested that Bug 1006738 should be fixed in
Precise since it was fixed upstream (see comments on that bug). On IRC,
in #ubuntu-server, it was suggested I include that fix with the fix for
this bug here, and in effect kill two bugs with one stone (so to speak).

[Bug 1016895] Re: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in dump_core()

2012-07-31 Thread TJ
The attached debdiff modifies
source3/auth/auth_utils.c::create_local_token()

When samba SIDs are being converted to local Linux group IDs (GIDs) some
samba groups (id.type == WBC_ID_TYPE_GID) do not have associated Linux
groups, e.g. NTLM\Domain Users (-513).

Unmatched SIDs had their associated GID set to (int)-1 despite the fact
that Linux group IDs are unsigned, which was translated to
(unsigned)4294967295.

Checks are added to avoid adding to the GID array or creating related
local tokens when the GID is -1.

setting sec ctx (1000, 1000) - sec_ctx_stack_ndx = 0
Security token SIDs (16):
