[Bug 1022901] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 64bit Guest (qemu/kvm) dies randomly

2012-09-11 Thread Todor Andreev
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1025244 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025244

I can confirm that the machine doesn't die or pause when there is no space
problem. All of the problems were caused by the space issue!
Although now I have another problem - qcow2 image is broken after 6 snapshots
:-) Will file another bug.

[Bug 913809] Re: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in rep_strlcpy()

2012-09-11 Thread James Page
Hi Taylor

Thanks for trying to grab a backtrace for this issue; however the trace
you provided is not the same as in the original bug report - its
actually a trace for normal operation of samba (which uses SIGUSR1 for
signaling between processes).

Again the original trace looks similar to http://lists.samba.org/archive
/samba-technical/2012-May/083909.html.

I think we can see that a null pointer being passed is causing the issue
- but we still need to figure out why this happens.

Please could reporters of this issue set the log level to 5:

log level 5

in /etc/samba/smb.conf, reload smbd and try to reproduce again -
hopefully samba will provide some useful debug messages which might help
ID whats going on.

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql

2012-09-11 Thread Axe
After a few hours of trying different configurations, resisting to
downgrade the packages, I finally succeeded to do a reconfiguration as
mentioned above (as Dario) among others.

BUT, I still didn't get authenticated, the domain part fell off the
sql until I did a change to change to OPTIONS=-c -m
/var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r in /etc/default/saslauthd
just like potatochip stated. But note, I did not need to downgrade
anything. Still running the original packages after the upgrade to 12.04
LTS.

Finally a word of testing and releases. It is a disgrace that packages
in an LTS isn't fixed sooner. No matter where the problem lies, Linux
consists of several packages developed by many different teams. Email
servers are even more important than webservers and cannot fail because
of lack of interest to fix critical upgrades like this. I deeply respect
all developers taking part in open source development, but failures to
address issues like this just cannot be part of professional releases (
as an LTS version is supposed to be ) in the future.

please check the above reference pointed by Fred.

To Ubuntu packagers fellows: the patch to be applied are
http://trac.networkupstools.org/projects/nut/changeset/3721
http://trac.networkupstools.org/projects/nut/changeset/3723

These patches also applies to 2.6.1 (the version of the present report),
though there are a few hunks on the first one.
Since these only impacts source files, there is nothing else required than
patching before the build.

cheers,

[Bug 1003296] Re: lightdm crashed with SIGSEGV in _pam_winbind_change_pwd() when password is expiring

2012-09-11 Thread Luca Lorenzetto
I wrote and tested a patch that fixes the bug. Reading the source code i
found that this:

 _pam_log(ctx, LOG_CRIT, Received [%s] reply from application.\n,
resp-resp);

So i searched on the auth.log logfile for this log entry and found:

pam_winbind(lightdm:auth): Received [(null)] reply from application

Then i found on a the crashfile stackthread:

#0 __strcasecmp_l_ssse3 () at ../sysdeps/i386/i686/multiarch/strcmp-ssse3.S:293
 No locals.
 #1 0xb7221398 in _pam_winbind_change_pwd (ctx=optimized out) at
../nsswitch/pam_winbind.c:834
 msg = {msg_style = 5, msg = 0xb7228f90 Do you want to change your
password now?}
 pmsg = 0xbfc39810
 resp = 0x85831a8
 prompt = optimized out
 ret = optimized out
 retval = false

So the problem is on the call of strcasecmp with null as first
parameter.

Attached the patch that fixes the issue.

I tested against the latest sources for precise that can be downloaded
with:

apt-get source samba

** Patch added: Fixes bug adding a check for a null value before calling
strcasecmp

[Bug 1048008] Re: tgt needs restart to find LUN

2012-09-11 Thread James Page
Hi Dave

Do you see any output during first boot which would indicate why tgt
does not present the LUN? I think this may be some sort of race
condition between tgt startup and the device mapper having detected all
devices.

It would be good if you could also try using a file as a backing-store
to see if you get the same problem.

[Bug 1049087] [NEW] gunit missing in antlr3

2012-09-11 Thread Guus Bonnema
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The antlr3.jar file from the website since version 3.1 contains gunit
functionality.
In the (K)ubuntu repository, antlr3 package has no jars containing gunit.

Gunit is a submodule of antlr3 provided to do junit-like testing on
antlr grammars.

Is it possible to include gunit in antlr3 ?

[Bug 1049087] Re: gunit missing in antlr3

2012-09-11 Thread James Page
Hi Guus

antlr3 in Ubuntu does actually provide the gunit jar files - they are in
a separate package - libantlr3-gunit-java.

However I just noticed that antlr3 does not install jars to
/usr/share/java - fixing that now.

[Bug 997978] Re: KVM images lose connectivity with bridged network

2012-09-11 Thread Mark McLoughlin
Ok, this bug seems to be about KVM networking bugs in Ubuntu. I don't
see anything specific for upstream OpenStack developers to debug or fix.
Marking as Invalid.

If there is some specific OpenStack upstream issue diagnosed, it's
probably best to file a new bug with the details of the specific issue
clearly isolated from everything else going on in this bug.

2012-09-11 Thread Todor Andreev
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1025244 ***

Well, I don't think that this is a desired behavior. I don't think it should be
put in the wishlist neither.
Since the machine dies, pauses and whatever, I think this is not a
desired/predicted way of managing such a situation.
I think it should manage to be at least alive! Don't you think so?
Then it should give some warnings in any way to the administrator.
I imagine how many admins will go through this and only after some nightmare
days will realize what is happening. Because, strangely enough, the space was
not at the end when I was checking it, it has been going to end only when the
client was moving some 100GB of files to the virtual machine, through samba.
And after getting an error, he was canceling the transfer and the image was
back at its original size, again. Black magic or whatever, but a fact!
I'm sorry I can't help with it... I'm not a programmer and can help only with
filling bugs :-(

[Bug 1003656] Re: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot

2012-09-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
Rationale for not touching vlan is that it's never calling ifup and so
shouldn't be able to cause a similar deadlock situation as bridge-utils.

[Bug 1003656] Re: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot

2012-09-11 Thread Stéphane Graber
I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out the ordering based on the
scripts for Andrew's system, it's basically:
- eth0 appears
  - triggers udev
- triggers upstart
  - triggers ifup eth0
- triggers bonding
  - bond0 appears
- triggers udev
  - triggers bridge-network-interface
- triggers ifup br0
  - br0 appears
- triggers udev
  - triggers upstart
- triggers ifup br0 = fails, already configured
  - dhclient br0 = fails as it's blocking and no interface in
bond
  - triggers upstart
- triggers ifup bond0
  - eth0 is joined in the bond
- eth1 appears
  - triggers udev
- triggers upstart
  - triggers ifup eth1
- triggers bonding
  - eth1 is joined in the bond

As you can see, it's relatively complex. The main problem as easily seen above
is that udev being sequential, the ifup br0 will be called before the bond
interface is fully setup and so will fail to acquire an IP as nothing's in the
bond at this point.

A possible way around the problem would be to only create the bridge
from the udev hook but not actually call ifup, letting the upstart job
take care of this. This would make the code similar to what vlan and
ifenslave are currently doing where as far as I know we're not getting a
similar deadlock.

I have a system reproducing this bug, so I'll now be trying my
workaround and re-read all the scripts once more to see if I missed
something.

[Bug 1047531] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) guests can't boot on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) QEMU-KVM host

2012-09-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.

I can actually reproduce this in quantal. However (at least in my case)
kvm is not actually hanging. The default boot prompt is sending output
to 'console=ttyS0', and cloud-init waits a long time for an ec2 server
to be available.

When I catch the grub prompt, type 'e' to edit the boot command, and
delete the 'console=ttyS0', then output appears on my vnc session. Does
that work for you in lucid as well?

[Bug 1029889] Re: LVM Based KVM VM taking 100% CPU on first start and hangs.

2012-09-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
@Luke,

thanks for the information. Just to be sure, your symptoms are exactly
the same as in the Description - kvm hangs (no response to network or
the vnc console) and takes 100% cpu?

Unfortunately, based on your .xml file it looks like you're not using an
LVM backed VM. I wonder if we should pursue this in a separate bug.
Would you mind opening a new bug?

If you could install the libc debugging symptoms and reproduce that
could definately help. It would be good to figure out why select is
hanging. If possible, getting the list of arguments passed to select
from gdb and comparing the list of fds to /proc/pid/fd/n entries
could also help.

If you change your machine type to pc-1.1 or pc-0.12, or change the
network device type and/or switch to using the default virbr0 network,
does that help?

Is there anything in your host's syslog which looks helpful?

[Bug 1049240] [NEW] nologin shells don't allow sftp access

2012-09-11 Thread wrigley
Public bug reported:

This may be just me that sucks at configuring vsftpd, but I've google'd
the out of this problem, pardon the language, and I can't seem to
get sftp login to work, with users with a nologin shell. Thus my last
inspiration was it might be a bug in vsftpd that causes it to disregard
the settings I've tried to implement. Here's what I've done (because
google said these would be the issues):

Each attempt has been tried with /usr/sbin/nologin, /bin/false and
/bin/true.

I've tried every combination of
* adding the shell to /etc/shells,
* disabled the pam_shells.so in /etc/pam.d/vsftpd
* adding check_shell=NO to /etc/vsftpd.conf

listen and local_enable are set YES
anonymous_enable is set NO

if the user has a shell /bin/sh or other /bin/bash, etc. they can log in
no problem, but either of the above simply fail.

My setup is running an Ubuntu 12.04.1 server default installation with
vsftpd-3.5-1ubuntu2 installed

[Bug 1047531] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) guests can't boot on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) QEMU-KVM host

2012-09-11 Thread Konstantin L. Metlov
Nope. In my case this does not help. I just get Booting a command list
and hang. I've tried removing console=ttyS0 before and did it again
now just for a test. The hang happens not only with cloud images, but
with VMbuilder images and install ISOs too.

What bothers me, actually, is that I can't find similar cases, reported
by other people. Running new images on old VM servers should be quite
common use case. May be there is something specific in my configuration
that triggers this problem. On the other hand I do not remember changing
any KVM or libvirt global configuration files, I use stock kernel and
stock packages. Machine has 8Gb of memory (with about 2 Gb left free and
for disk cache). There are exactly 10 Lucid VMs running at all times.
This one is eleventh. May be there is some limit on number of running
VMs ?

2012-09-11 Thread Konstantin L. Metlov
Also the VM in hanged state uses exactly 36 Mb of memory out of
allocated 512Mb and spins indefinitely using 100% CPU (sometimes
sligntly more: 102% or 104%). Probably, this memory usage corresponds to
the kernel+initrd.

I have enabled GRUB debug output, but never seen it telling anything
about launching the kernel. So it looks that hang happens in GRUB (which
is consistent with the observation that all other Precise images hang in
the same way, irrespectively of kernel options).

[Bug 1014044] Re: PHP5-FPM not reporting errors to web server (nginx)

2012-09-11 Thread Thomas Ward
I tested this directly from the precise-proposed repos, and this did
indeed fix the issue. PHP was correctly reporting errors to the
webserver error logs (tested in nginx).

[Bug 1034962] Re: bacula dependency on bacula-server fails with held broken packages

2012-09-11 Thread Adam Conrad
Hello Douglas, or anyone else affected,

Accepted bacula into oneiric-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bacula/5.0.3-1ubuntu5.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1049309] [NEW] keystone package: logrotate should have compress option

2012-09-11 Thread Justin Shepherd
Public bug reported:

The current keystone package (2012.1+stable~20120824-a16a0ab9-0) drops a
logrotate.d file without the compress option.

# cat /etc/logrotate.d/keystone
/var/log/keystone/keystone.log {
daily
missingok
rotate 5
postrotate
restart keystone
endscript
}

On an all-in-one test installation, this file is 240M after 24 hours.

[Bug 1003656] Re: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot

2012-09-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package bridge-utils - 1.5-4ubuntu2

---
bridge-utils (1.5-4ubuntu2) quantal; urgency=low

  * Revert last chance as udev doesn't accept that syntax.
  * Set BRIDGE_HOTPLUG=yes as that's the behaviour we had in the past and
need for the event based networking. Reverting change from 1.5-4.
  * Don't call ifup from bridge-network-interface, instead just call brctl
and let udev/upstart bring the interface up (LP: #1003656)

[Bug 1031065] Re: cloud-init-nonet runs 'start networking' explicitly

2012-09-11 Thread Scott Moser
Steve,
I've also now tried your mountall in an lxc chroot, and it did not resolve my
issue there either.
I've set up a lxc container as described above, commented out the 'start
networking' and then:
$ sudo ln -sf console /path/to/rootfs/dev/kmsg
$ sudo lxc-start --name=$REL-amd64 --console console.log -- /sbin/init --verbose

[Bug 583530] Re: vm-builder 0.12.3-0ubuntu1 crashes and causes loop devices to be stuck

2012-09-11 Thread GeekSmith
I'm seeing this any time vmbuilder fails. If it fails more than a few
times, I run out of loopback devices and can't build anything more.
Here are the loopback devices it leaves for a VM with two hard disks:

I'm able to clean up the loopback devices manually, but it's quite a pain:
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -a
/dev/loop0: [0801]:678634 (/tmp/tmpZjs7XP)
/dev/loop1: [0801]:678638 (/tmp/tmpFfS6q9)
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -d /dev/loop0
loop: can't delete device /dev/loop0: Device or resource busy
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo kpartx -d /dev/loop0
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -d /dev/loop0
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -a
/dev/loop1: [0801]:678638 (/tmp/tmpFfS6q9)

-- OK, one down. The last one is a litte more painful:
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo dmsetup table
loop1p1: 0 15622984 linear 7:1 63
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo kpartx -dv /dev/mapper/loop1p1
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -d /dev/mapper/loop1p1
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm % sudo losetup -a
aaron.smith@asmith ~/dvp/vm %

If a person is trying to automate creation of a VM in a build process,
this becomes burdensome.
