[Bug 913809] Re: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in rep_strlcpy()
Hi Taylor Thanks for trying to grab a backtrace for this issue; however the trace you provided is not the same as in the original bug report - its actually a trace for normal operation of samba (which uses SIGUSR1 for signaling between processes). Again the original trace looks similar to http://lists.samba.org/archive /samba-technical/2012-May/083909.html. I think we can see that a null pointer being passed is causing the issue - but we still need to figure out why this happens. Please could reporters of this issue set the log level to 5: log level 5 in /etc/samba/smb.conf, reload smbd and try to reproduce again - hopefully samba will provide some useful debug messages which might help ID whats going on. ** Changed in: samba (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/913809 Title: smbd crashed with SIGABRT in rep_strlcpy() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/913809/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 875440] Re: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql
After a few hours of trying different configurations, resisting to downgrade the packages, I finally succeeded to do a reconfiguration as mentioned above (as Dario) among others. BUT, I still didn't get authenticated, the domain part fell off the sql until I did a change to change to OPTIONS=-c -m /var/spool/postfix/var/run/saslauthd -r in /etc/default/saslauthd just like potatochip stated. But note, I did not need to downgrade anything. Still running the original packages after the upgrade to 12.04 LTS. Finally a word of testing and releases. It is a disgrace that packages in an LTS isn't fixed sooner. No matter where the problem lies, Linux consists of several packages developed by many different teams. Email servers are even more important than webservers and cannot fail because of lack of interest to fix critical upgrades like this. I deeply respect all developers taking part in open source development, but failures to address issues like this just cannot be part of professional releases ( as an LTS version is supposed to be ) in the future. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to cyrus-sasl2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/875440 Title: Cannot authenticate with saslauthd and mysql To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cyrus-sasl2/+bug/875440/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1003656] Re: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot
Rationale for not touching vlan is that it's never calling ifup and so shouldn't be able to cause a similar deadlock situation as bridge-utils. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vlan in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003656 Title: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bridge-utils/+bug/1003656/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1003656] Re: bridge-utils/vlan udev hooks prevent execution of upstart hook, slowing down boot
I just spent a few minutes trying to figure out the ordering based on the scripts for Andrew's system, it's basically: - eth0 appears - triggers udev - triggers upstart - triggers ifup eth0 - triggers bonding - bond0 appears - triggers udev - triggers bridge-network-interface - triggers ifup br0 - br0 appears - triggers udev - triggers upstart - triggers ifup br0 = fails, already configured - dhclient br0 = fails as it's blocking and no interface in bond - triggers upstart - triggers ifup bond0 - eth0 is joined in the bond - eth1 appears - triggers udev - triggers upstart - triggers ifup eth1 - triggers bonding - eth1 is joined in the bond As you can see, it's relatively complex. The main problem as easily seen above is that udev being sequential, the ifup br0 will be called before the bond interface is fully setup and so will fail to acquire an IP as nothing's in the bond at this point. A possible way around the problem would be to only create the bridge from the udev hook but not actually call ifup, letting the upstart job take care of this. This would make the code similar to what vlan and ifenslave are currently doing where as far as I know we're not getting a similar deadlock. I have a system reproducing this bug, so I'll now be trying my workaround and re-read all the scripts once more to see if I missed something.

[Bug 1029889] Re: LVM Based KVM VM taking 100% CPU on first start and hangs.
@Luke, thanks for the information. Just to be sure, your symptoms are exactly the same as in the Description - kvm hangs (no response to network or the vnc console) and takes 100% cpu? Unfortunately, based on your .xml file it looks like you're not using an LVM backed VM. I wonder if we should pursue this in a separate bug. Would you mind opening a new bug? If you could install the libc debugging symptoms and reproduce that could definately help. It would be good to figure out why select is hanging. If possible, getting the list of arguments passed to select from gdb and comparing the list of fds to /proc/pid/fd/n entries could also help. If you change your machine type to pc-1.1 or pc-0.12, or change the network device type and/or switch to using the default virbr0 network, does that help? Public bug reported: This may be just me that sucks at configuring vsftpd, but I've google'd the out of this problem, pardon the language, and I can't seem to get sftp login to work, with users with a nologin shell. Thus my last inspiration was it might be a bug in vsftpd that causes it to disregard the settings I've tried to implement. Here's what I've done (because google said these would be the issues): Each attempt has been tried with /usr/sbin/nologin, /bin/false and /bin/true. I've tried every combination of * adding the shell to /etc/shells, * disabled the pam_shells.so in /etc/pam.d/vsftpd * adding check_shell=NO to /etc/vsftpd.conf listen and local_enable are set YES anonymous_enable is set NO if the user has a shell /bin/sh or other /bin/bash, etc. they can log in no problem, but either of the above simply fail. [Bug 1047531] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) guests can't boot on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) QEMU-KVM host
Nope. In my case this does not help. I just get Booting a command list and hang. I've tried removing console=ttyS0 before and did it again now just for a test. The hang happens not only with cloud images, but with VMbuilder images and install ISOs too. What bothers me, actually, is that I can't find similar cases, reported by other people. Running new images on old VM servers should be quite common use case. May be there is something specific in my configuration that triggers this problem. On the other hand I do not remember changing any KVM or libvirt global configuration files, I use stock kernel and stock packages. Machine has 8Gb of memory (with about 2 Gb left free and for disk cache). There are exactly 10 Lucid VMs running at all times. This one is eleventh. [Bug 1047531] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) guests can't boot on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) QEMU-KVM host
Also the VM in hanged state uses exactly 36 Mb of memory out of allocated 512Mb and spins indefinitely using 100% CPU (sometimes sligntly more: 102% or 104%). Probably, this memory usage corresponds to the kernel+initrd. I have enabled GRUB debug output, but never seen it telling anything about launching the kernel. So it looks that hang happens in GRUB (which is consistent with the observation that all other Precise images hang in the same way, irrespectively of kernel options). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1047531 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise) guests can't boot on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid) QEMU- KVM host To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/1047531/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
