[Bug 1065080] Re: The BROKER_URL sent to a cluster controller has its hostname set 'localhost'.

2012-10-11 Thread Raphaël Badin
After a discussion with Julian, we decided that this should be fixed in
the packaging: instead of using 'localhost' (in debian/maas-region-
controller.postinst), the packaging script should use the IP address of
the default route (just like what it does to populate DEFAULT_MAAS_URL).

[Bug 1065055] Re: celeryconfig_cluster.py imports utility method from maas (import_settings)

2012-10-11 Thread Raphaël Badin
Can't be done in the packaging because the 'maas' package (which
contains Django settings) is not on the path (standard Django
application packaging policy). For now, let's copy over the 2 methods
in the celeryconfig_cluster.py and file a tech-debt bug.

[Bug 903752] Re: [MIR] sssd

2012-10-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Adding samba4 to the mix, as the new PAC responder needs it. It's
currently disabled from the package, but I'll re-enable once R opens.

Also, I'd rather just sync it from Debian if we could get libsemanage in
main as well. There's no other diff than what's caused by the rather
artificial main/universe split.

Avoid RPC calls while holding iptables lock.

This exhibitied itself as very slow instance starts on a Canonical
test cluster. This was because do_referesh_security_group_rules()
was making rpc calls while holding the iptables lock. This refactor
avoids that while making no functional changes (I hope).

This should resolve bug 1062314.

[Bug 1065506] [NEW] rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin firmware missing from oneiric backport to 10.04

2012-10-11 Thread tonyw
Public bug reported:

In order to get a new usb Wifi dongle working, I installed the linux-
image-generic-lts-backport-oneiric package on an existing Ubuntu lucid
10.4 system.

lsusb had reported the device as 13d3:3310 IMC Networks, which uses a
r8712u chip. Supported from 2.6.37 kernels.

Once the new kernel loaded, the device was correctly identified and
[ 87.824770] r8712u: Loading firmware from rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin
appeared in /var/log/messages

However, the device never became ready. There appeared to be no file

/lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin present on the system.

Downloading the firmware from
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git;a=tree;f=rtlwifi
and installing as /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin fixes the problem.

Looks like there is a missing firmware dependency in the backport and
possibly other packages using the same kernel.

My named.conf looked like this:

I changed it statically to:
  include /var/run/bind/named.options;
  include /etc/bind/named.conf.local;
  include /etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones;

Even better would be, to select the right include based on info in

[Bug 1065372] Re: kvm not working on my 64bit Vista64 Ultimate vm. I am assuming it is my cpu that can't handle the hardware virtualization

2012-10-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this bug.

It looks from the cpuinfo as though kvm should be supported. Could you
boot into the BIOS screen and check to make sure that virtualization is
enabled?

You can also type

sudo kvm-ok

to see if it thinks kvm should be supported.

[Bug 1065259] Re: Enlistment fails if multiple MAC addresses are sent

2012-10-11 Thread Clint Byrum
Hello Andres, or anyone else affected,

Accepted maas-enlist into precise-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas-
enlist/0.4-0ubuntu1.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Whoops, I guess I should have checked the bios before reporting this. It
indeed was turned off there and the vm loaded fine. Thanks.

[Blueprint servercloud-r-cloudtesting] Cloud Image Testing and Automation

2012-10-11 Thread Ben Howard
Blueprint changed by Ben Howard:

Whiteboard changed:
+ [TEST PLAN]
+ The core of this blue print is adding tests. Therefore the implementation of
this blue print is a test itself.
+
+ [ASSUMPTIONS]
+ It is assumed that this will be a multi-cycle blue print that will undergo
refinement. Implementation of some pieces may happen in later cycles.
+
+ [RISKS]
+ The biggest risk for implementation is cost. For some cloud vendors, the
ability to implement all tests would represent a significant financal burden.
This risk will be mitigated by stepping tests such that only relavent tests
will be done as approprate.
+
+ [RELEASE NOTE]
+ Starting with r, the Ubuntu Cloud Images are now on a release cadance that
follows the kernel SRU process. In general, new Cloud Images for all supported
stable releases and long-term releases will follow a few days after
availability of kernel, gcc and other boot-critical packages. Further, all
released daily builds undergo exhaustive testing to ensure quality and to check
regressions, performance and integration into Cloud environments. Users who are
interested in tracking the testing can find the test results on
http://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com and http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com.
+
+
+ [FEEDBACK from RFC]:
+
Suggested for Release Notes and Notification:

1/ release notes for each releases are published and kept on
  cloud-images.ubuntu.com. Maybe in /suite/release-notes/ with a link
from the individual /suite/version/ directory? As you remove
versions you still keep the release notes.

2/ Set up a notification method via twitter, or RSS Feed.

3/ Keep sending emails for the time being

[Bug 1065589] [NEW] initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime

2012-10-11 Thread Dan Kegel
Public bug reported:

On an Ubuntu 12.04.1 system, each time you start and stop a container,
initctl status shows two more instances of network-interface and
network-interface-security running.
The numbers do not go down after the container shuts down.
Evidently there's an interface leak in lxc-start?

Here's how I ran into this.
Hosting a small number of buildbots in
one-shot ephemeral LXC containers,
in which the LXC container is stop and started after each build,
after two days of uptime, running the commands

while true
do
   time initctl list | awk '{print $1}' | sort | uniq -c | sort -n | tail -n 3
done

outputs

  1 wait-for-state
   6003 network-interface
  11990 network-interface-security

real0m19.428s

  1 wait-for-state
   6004 network-interface
  11994 network-interface-security

real0m19.271s

If I stop the buildbots, the numbers stop rising.

This broke my build.

I can work around this by rebooting every night, but I'd sure rather
not.

[Bug 973663] Re: quota returns nothing for NFS on 12.04

2012-10-11 Thread Duncan White
Is this patched package coming to precise any time soon? As the guts of the
patch is a one line removal,
I've built a 4.00-3 with a patch package for my own use, seems to work fine.

[Bug 1065628] [NEW] pci device not reset (passthrough)

2012-10-11 Thread Gerben
Public bug reported:

A restarted kvm client with a passthough pci device does not work
anymore (properly) with that device. The device does not seem to be re-
set properly.

If the KVM host is re-started the client one time starts properly with a
correctly functioning pci device, when the client is re-started (without
re-starting the kvm host) the pci device is not working properly.

Seen on device:
USB device with linux client (USB controller: ASMedia Technology Inc.
ASM1042 SuperSpeed USB Host Controller)
The device is implemented with MSI-X, as a test a keyboard is connected.

First boot client (on fresh start of KVM host):
The client is presented the pci USB device (usb 2.0 and usb 3.0) and the
keyboard is presented as well. The keyboard properly works.

Reboot:
The client is presented the pci USB device (usb 2.0 and usb 3.0), but no
keyboard is presented (it is plugged in). Disconnecting and re-connecting the
usb keyboard is not helping. Unregistering and re-registering with it's driver
(xhci_hcd) did not help. Trying to reset through echo 1 reset within
/sys/devices/ did not help. Trying to use pci-config -s 03:00.0 -S and
pci-config -s 03:00.0 -W did not help.

I've been looking for a solution to get this working properly, but
failed so far to find a solution.

[Bug 1065589] Re: initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime

2012-10-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
Note that the count goes up by 1 for each container. But each container
has 2 veths.

My guess is that when lxc passes one of the 2 veths into the container,
we need to emit a net-device-removed signal for the passed-in device.

Yup, I can reproduce this. However I believe the bug is in the init
script, not in lxc. The veth interfaces are not around.

Ah, no, both veths have a network-interface job sticking around.

Could this be seen as a kernel/udev bug, that when they veth is
destroyed (and maybe even when passed to a new netns) a uevent should be
sent?

[Bug 1062671] Re: ubuntu-cloudimg-query in precise cannot query for quantal

2012-10-11 Thread Clint Byrum
Looks like missing dependencies. Namely, distro-info, once that is
installed:

(precise-amd64)root@clint-MacBookPro:~# ubuntu-cloudimg-query quantal
/usr/bin/ubuntu-cloudimg-query: 61: /usr/bin/ubuntu-cloudimg-query: wget: not
found
failed to get
https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/query/quantal/server/released-dl.current.txt

And then with any release:

failed to get https://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/query/lucid/server
/released-dl.current.txt

Because ca-certificates is missing:

So, this boils down to three missing deps... distro-info, wget, and ca-
certificates.

[Bug 1065589] Re: initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime

2012-10-11 Thread Serge Hallyn
This can be worked around by manually stopping the jobs, for instance:

sudo stop network-interface-security JOB=network-interface
INTERFACE=vethCEDGKQ

So lowering priority (per guidelines) since there is a workaround.

[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs

2012-10-11 Thread Sean Channel
Sage, thank you much for your comment (#4). Tv, thanks for guidance and
letting me play along.

The ceph build already separates the main build from docs, and the
requirements for building are already quite substantial, so if someone
is up to the task of building deb packages on their own then they're up
to dealing with the docs. I speculate it may be worth investigating if
there are more current alternatives to the custom mods required for
sphinx if that is the only roadblock.

Far be it for me to say that you must ship docs, however, it may be
preferable to drive that traffic through the web site, which has the
advantage of incorporating community updates more frequently, and I
totally support that idea.

Since you don't really want another makefile and don't need another
script to build docs, I suggest adding it to the main package build if
they're going to ship at all, or let's close this issue and stick with
the web site.

I count only two truly great solutions in any category that exist right
now, and one is ceph. You have my allegiance.

I've opened bug 1065684 to handle the network-interface-security jobs.
Those can just be made to go away immediately.

THe network-interface jobs are a bit more contraversial. The question
is whether the kernel should emit a signal, or whether lxc should, when
a veth is moved to another network namespace.

It looks like compute is trying to find the volume with target named
iqn.2010-10.org.openstack:volume-0002. However, the upgrade from
Essex to Folsom migrates all volume IDs to UUIDs. On the volume host:

 ~# tgt-admin --dump
default-driver iscsi

target iqn.2010-10.org.openstack:volume-cd04dd3b-f8af-4400-bb91-8051aa05ef63

The volumes table in the database, where I assume this connection information
originates from on attach, still contains the old data:
mysql select provider_location from volumes;

[Bug 1065714] [NEW] vsftpd 2.3.5 needs allow_writeable_chroot option

2012-10-11 Thread Matthew Caron
Public bug reported:

vsftpd 2.3.5 adds additional security checks which complain when the
root directory inside a chroot is writeable. While this is a legitimate
concern, it has been an issue with chrooted systems since they began,
and many installations knowingly balance that issue with convenience.

As such, the internet at large is in rebellion against this version of
vsftpd - just search for vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root
inside chroot(), and the result are a pile of workarounds, from
compile your own to install the package from an earlier version of
Ubuntu. These are suboptimal solutions in that it becomes too easy to
forget that you manually installed some things and old and unpatched
versions proliferate. When a release such as 12.04 has a 5 year support
cycle, this is a recipe for disaster.

The vsftpd maintainers have added an allow_writeable_chroot option in
later versions which bypasses this offending check. (I know it is in
3.0.0 at least). Either upgrading vsftpd in 12.04 to 3.0.0 or
backporting this to 2.3.5 would be acceptable solutions - the latter
likely being preferable.

2012-10-11 Thread Vish Ishaya
ugh, this is nasty. Looks like we need a migration for this. For
backport we could add a translation using the ec2_id table to convert
from the old name to the new one. Some testing needs to be done to
figure out if the new iqns are actually there in all cases or if there
is a case where the old iqn will exist.
