After a discussion with Julian, we decided that this should be fixed in the packaging: instead of using 'localhost' (in debian/maas-region- controller.postinst), the packaging script should use the IP address of the default route (just like what it does to populate DEFAULT_MAAS_URL). ** No longer affects: maas -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065080 Title: The BROKER_URL sent to a cluster controller has its hostname set 'localhost'. [Bug 1065506] [NEW] rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin firmware missing from oneiric backport to 10.04
Public bug reported: In order to get a new usb Wifi dongle working, I installed the linux- image-generic-lts-backport-oneiric package on an existing Ubuntu lucid 10.4 system. lsusb had reported the device as 13d3:3310 IMC Networks, which uses a r8712u chip. Downloading the firmware from http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/dwmw2/linux-firmware.git;a=tree;f=rtlwifi and installing as /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/rtl8712u.bin fixes the problem. [Blueprint servercloud-r-cloudtesting] Cloud Image Testing and Automation
Blueprint changed by Ben Howard: Whiteboard changed: + [TEST PLAN] + The core of this blue print is adding tests. Therefore the implementation of this blue print is a test itself. + + [ASSUMPTIONS] + It is assumed that this will be a multi-cycle blue print that will undergo refinement. Implementation of some pieces may happen in later cycles. + + [RISKS] + The biggest risk for implementation is cost. For some cloud vendors, the ability to implement all tests would represent a significant financal burden. This risk will be mitigated by stepping tests such that only relavent tests will be done as approprate. + + [RELEASE NOTE] + Starting with r, the Ubuntu Cloud Images are now on a release cadance that follows the kernel SRU process. In general, new Cloud Images for all supported stable releases and long-term releases will follow a few days after availability of kernel, gcc and other boot-critical packages. Further, all released daily builds undergo exhaustive testing to ensure quality and to check regressions, performance and integration into Cloud environments. Users who are interested in tracking the testing can find the test results on http://jenkins.qa.ubuntu.com and http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com. + + + [FEEDBACK from RFC]: + Suggested for Release Notes and Notification: 1/ release notes for each releases are published and kept on cloud-images.ubuntu.com. Maybe in /suite/release-notes/ with a link from the individual /suite/version/ directory? As you remove versions you still keep the release notes. 2/ Set up a notification method via twitter, or RSS Feed. 3/ Keep sending emails for the time being -- Cloud Image Testing and Automation https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-r-cloudtesting -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1065589] [NEW] initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime
Public bug reported: On an Ubuntu 12.04.1 system, each time you start and stop a container, initctl status shows two more instances of network-interface and network-interface-security running. The numbers do not go down after the container shuts down. Evidently there's an interface leak in lxc-start? Here's how I ran into this. Hosting a small number of buildbots in one-shot ephemeral LXC containers, in which the LXC container is stop and started after each build, after two days of uptime, running the commands while true do time initctl list | awk '{print $1}' | sort | uniq -c | sort -n | tail -n 3 done outputs 1 wait-for-state 6003 network-interface 11990 network-interface-security real0m19.428s 1 wait-for-state 6004 network-interface 11994 network-interface-security real0m19.271s If I stop the buildbots, the numbers stop rising. This broke my build. I can work around this by rebooting every night, but I'd sure rather not. ** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065589 Title: initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1065589/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Reboot: The client is presented the pci USB device (usb 2.0 and usb 3.0), but no keyboard is presented (it is plugged in). Disconnecting and re-connecting the usb keyboard is not helping. Unregistering and re-registering with it's driver (xhci_hcd) did not help. Trying to reset through echo 1 reset within /sys/devices/ did not help. Trying to use pci-config -s 03:00.0 -S and pci-config -s 03:00.0 -W did not help. [Bug 1065589] Re: initctl list shows 11974 instances of network-interface-security after two days of uptime

[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs
Sage, thank you much for your comment (#4). Tv, thanks for guidance and letting me play along. The ceph build already separates the main build from docs, and the requirements for building are already quite substantial, so if someone is up to the task of building deb packages on their own then they're up to dealing with the docs. I speculate it may be worth investigating if there are more current alternatives to the custom mods required for sphinx if that is the only roadblock. Far be it for me to say that you must ship docs, however, it may be preferable to drive that traffic through the web site, which has the advantage of incorporating community updates more frequently, and I totally support that idea. Since you don't really want another makefile and don't need another script to build docs, I suggest adding it to the main package build if they're going to ship at all, or let's close this issue and stick with the web site. I count only two truly great solutions in any category that exist right now, and one is ceph. [Bug 1065714] [NEW] vsftpd 2.3.5 needs allow_writeable_chroot option
Public bug reported: vsftpd 2.3.5 adds additional security checks which complain when the root directory inside a chroot is writeable. While this is a legitimate concern, it has been an issue with chrooted systems since they began, and many installations knowingly balance that issue with convenience. As such, the internet at large is in rebellion against this version of vsftpd - just search for vsftpd: refusing to run with writable root inside chroot(), and the result are a pile of workarounds, from compile your own to install the package from an earlier version of Ubuntu. These are suboptimal solutions in that it becomes too easy to forget that you manually installed some things and old and unpatched versions proliferate. When a release such as 12.04 has a 5 year support cycle, this is a recipe for disaster. The vsftpd maintainers have added an allow_writeable_chroot option in later versions which bypasses this offending check. (I know it is in 3.0.0 at least). Either upgrading vsftpd in 12.04 to 3.0.0 or backporting this to 2.3.5 would be acceptable solutions - the latter likely being preferable. ** Affects: vsftpd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vsftpd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065714 Title: vsftpd 2.3.5 needs allow_writeable_chroot option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/vsftpd/+bug/1065714/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1065702] Re: After folsom upgrade, instances can no longer access existing volumes.
ugh, this is nasty. Looks like we need a migration for this. For backport we could add a translation using the ec2_id table to convert from the old name to the new one. Some testing needs to be done to figure out if the new iqns are actually there in all cases or if there is a case where the old iqn will exist. ** Changed in: nova Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1065702 Title: After folsom upgrade, instances can no longer access existing volumes.
