[Bug 1091114] [NEW] fuse mount cause problem to find -xdev

2012-12-17 Thread latimerio
Public bug reported:

find . -xdev reports Permission denied on fuse mounts instead of skipping
the mount point.
I found various bug reports on fuse mounts and it seems that fuse mounts are
still not properly handled with 12.04.1 LTS.

Programs like x2go create a fuse mount in /tmp !
e.g. mount | grep fuse
gvfs-fuse-daemon on /var/lib/lightdm/.gvfs type fuse.gvfs-fuse-daemon
(rw,nosuid,nodev,user=lightdm)
testuser@127.0.0.1:/media on /tmp/.x2go-testuser/media/disk/_media type
fuse.sshfs (rw,nosuid,nodev,max_read=65536,user=testuser)

So when a root cron job does something like
find /tmp -xdev (e.g. to cleanup old stuff) find does not skip the mount
point but reports a permission denied error.

This is not a clean behaviour.
Either find should correctly skip this mount point or root should be able to
scan everything on a machine.

To my opinion root is root is root, so there should be no restrictions on
following fuse mounts.
As root can su to the user or even change the users password and become the
user, I do not see any reason why root is restricted to follow fuse mounts
right away.

[Bug 1089711] [NEW] nova.conf unreadable is hard to diagnose

2012-12-17 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When nova.conf is unreadable (due to permissions), nova services won't
start. However this is difficult to diagnose because there is no error
given from the upstart script, and there is no entry whatsoever in the
service's logs (/var/log/nova-scheduler.log for example). Instead the
only clue shows up in syslog:

Dec 12 22:05:50 z2 kernel: [ 390.442678] init: nova-scheduler main
process (23171) terminated with status 143

It would be much better if this error said something to the effect of
could not read config file /etc/nova/nova.conf

I'm seeing this on Folsom:

[Bug 1090462] Re: lxc-info, lxc-stop and lxc-list doesn't work for non-root users

2012-12-17 Thread Serge Hallyn
As documented in the server guide
(https://help.ubuntu.com/12.04/serverguide/lxc.html), lxc-setcap is not
recommended.

Unprivileged use of lxc will hopefully be a feature in 14.04, after user
namespaces are fully functional.

In the mean time, creation, starting, and stopping of containers in
general should be done as root.

[Bug 1090410] Re: bundle utilities do not handle '/' in bucket name

2012-12-17 Thread Scott Moser
** Description changed:

It seems that upload-bundle and download-bundle do not handle a '/' in
the bucket name. Older versions of the ec2-ami tools also had this
  restriction.

  $ truncate --size 1m foo; cloud-publish-image amd64 foo

-
- What went wrong there is that upload-bundle tried to check for a bucket named
'smoser-private-images/foo' rather than 'smoser-private-images'. The ec2 api
and ec2-ami tools now accept this, and realize that you want to create a bucket
without a / and a directory in that bucket.

Note, if the bucket already exists, this seems to work.

2012-12-17 Thread Scott Moser
The upload cloud-init_0.7.0-0ubuntu2.2.dsc did not fully fix the issue.
Some portions of the distro config (default users and such) could be
changed, but others (specifically mirrors) could not.

I've opened bug 1090482 to address that, and uploaded cloud-
init_0.7.0-0ubuntu2.2 to quantal-proposed with a fix.

is currently run at pre-down time instead of post-down time), the effect
of the bug is minor: it only means that named is listening on the
address of an interface that has since been deconfigured. Of course, if
the admin customizes the script, misled into thinking that it gets run
at post-down time (as it apparently should be) then it could become a
bit more serious.

** Summary changed:

- /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9 doesn't work; should be
/etc/network/if-post-down.d/bind9
+ The rndc reconfig in /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9 should be in
/etc/network/if-post-down.d/bind9

** Description changed:

The bind9 package includes /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9 which does rndc
reconfig. But this should only be done *after* the interface has been
  deconfigured not before.

  NetworkManager's /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d/01ifupdown run-partses
only /etc/network/if-up.d and /etc/network/if-post-down.d, so when an
interface is deconfigured using NetworkManager the bind9 hook script
doesn't get run at all; named does not notice that the interface has
been deconfigured until its next poll (which happens every 60 minutes by
  default).

- It looks to me as if /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9 should be moved to
- /etc/network/if-post-down.d/.
+ It looks to me as if the rndc reconfig in /etc/network/if-down.d/bind9
+ should be moved into /etc/network/if-post-down.d/.

[Bug 1091430] [NEW] 9p fails with readonly+non-root due to O_NOATIME

2012-12-17 Thread Ben Jencks
Public bug reported:

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2012-01/msg02053.html

Upstream QEMU commit: eed968607d656a218712df47a5e0432c21fd6994
hw/9pfs: Remove O_NOATIME flag from 9pfs open() calls in readonly mode

When a 9p filesystem is exported with the readonly flag, QEMU adds the
O_NOATIME flag to all accesses. This causes all reads to fail when qemu
is run as non-root and the runas user doesn't own the files being
accessed. The patch is a one-liner; please add it to the distribution
patches.

No. OpenSSH will not apply a fix to this since the above is working as
desired. This issue is actually related to netssh code, which Juniper
has fixed it in 6.2.0r11.

Changelog shows:

585314— SCP to the firewall failed from an UNIX machine and displayed
the error unknown file '--ns_sys_config.

[Bug 1061244] Re: Fix net rpc share allowedusers to work with 2008r2

2012-12-17 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
The RAP NetShareEnum command was removed in Windows 2008r2, so net rpc
  share allowedusers no longer works.

- Upstream has accepted and applied a patch to use the equivalent RPC call
- instead:
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Install a Windows 2008r2 or later server and setup a domain and export
+ some shares. Install Ubuntu precise on a machine on the same network and
+ join it to the domain. Then run this command on a machine running Ubuntu
+ precise:
+
+ $ net usersidlist | net rpc share allowedusers -U Administrator -S
+ ipaddr
+
+ Where ipaddr is the IP address of the Windows 2008r2 server.
+
+ Without the patch, this gives:
+
+ Error returning browse list: NT_STATUS_NOT_SUPPORTED
+
+ With the patch it shows the shares and which users can view them.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ This has been running this in production with various versions of samba
+ since at least July 2011 and it seems to work well with both 2008r2 and
+ older versions of Windows.
+
+ Samba upstream have applied the patch to the 3.6 branch, indicating they
+ believe it's a change suitable for a stable release series:

  https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8966

- I've been running this in production with various versions of samba
- since at least July 2011, and it seems to work well with both 2008r2 and
- older versions of Windows. It would be good if other users could
- benefit from the fix.
+ [Other Info]

- I've attached a debdiff of the patched precise package I'm using.
+ None.

[Bug 1091523] [NEW] Testing Raring in KVM displays visual artifacts (affects installer world map, login screen, wallpaper)

2012-12-17 Thread David Bensimon
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
-Set up a VM in Ubuntu 12.10 (select that the VM is for Linux, Ubuntu 12.10)
-Install from ISO:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/243/builds/30910/downloads
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/243/builds/30907/downloads
-Follow Testcase Install (entire disk)
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/243/builds/30910/testcases/1300/results

What was expected?
At step 10 a map of the world (timezone setup) should be shown

What happened?
KVM shows artifacts on the installer world map and after the installation is
over, lightdm unity-greeter, and desktop wallpaper all have this issue (see
attachments).

Why does it happen?
When creating the machine in the Virtual Machine Manager selects cirrus as
default. I've noticed this conflicts with the installation.

What is the workaround?
Change the video emulation setting to vga or vmvga (more resolutions).

Additional comments:
The following emulation modes have issues:
cirrus - artifacts
qxl - black screen. 100% CPU Usage.
xen - black screen

What should be done to fix this bug?
-Change the default video emulation settings for Ubuntu
-Fix cirrus emulation (and possibly qxl and xen)
