[Bug 1029430] Re: KVM guests networking issues with no virbr0 and with vhost_net kernel modules loaded
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/18336 Committed: http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/901a3dacb6f2d36cbe8d23707dba75452e91df33 Submitter: Jenkins Branch:master commit 901a3dacb6f2d36cbe8d23707dba75452e91df33 Author: Adam Gandelman adam.gandel...@canonical.com Date: Tue Dec 18 09:50:46 2012 -0800 Add an iptables mangle rule per-bridge for DHCP. When vhost-net is present on a host, and DHCP services are run on the same system as guests (multi_host), an iptables rule is needed to fill packet checksums. This adds a rule per-bridge for multi_host networks when vhost-net is present, similar to how newer versions of libvirt handle the issue for bridges/networks that it manages. [Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers
We all know there are workarounds for this and what surprises me more s that after 8 months NO FIX! I just took my install of ubuntu 12.04 to the latest samba packages from Raring and the problem is still there . I was already running CUPS 1.61. What I did notice is something I did not see before when I ran cupsaddsmb -H localhost -U root -h localhost -a -v It returned an error about an invalid printer . So then I run rpcclient -U root localhost -c enumdrivers and rpcclient -U root localhost -c enumprinters And only one driver and two printers (one is PDF) . The PDF printer nor driver are anywhere t be fund but the driver for the PDF printer was made available to windows! What gets even weirder is that I cn print to the PDF printer via Samba and a postscript driver! Considering that samba does not even see it as installed thats odd Is this a samba bug or cups bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to samba in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/967410 Title: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/967410/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1092126] [NEW] Instances can get into a 'highlander' state - no obvious way to kill them
Public bug reported: With vanilla Ubuntu 12.04 (including precise-proposed) we often see instances get into a 'highlander' state. There doesn't seem to be any reasonable way to kill the instances (ec2-terminate-instances as either the owner or an admin user has no effect). (I realise there's not a lot of detail here; I'm happy to any more that's asked for, but the focus of the bug (from my POV) is the unkillable nature of these instances, not how/that they're in an error state.) ** Affects: nova (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: canonistack -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to nova in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1092126 Title: Instances can get into a 'highlander' state - no obvious way to kill them To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nova/+bug/1092126/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Is it possible to get it to work using some yet-unsupported version of the kernel? Can you point out some feature status document where I can read about what is missing? The last time I set up containers working with user namespaces I documented it at http://s3hh.wordpress.com/2012/10/31/full-ubuntu-container-confined-in-a -user-namespace/ Most of the kernel patches in there were actually just accepted into Linus' tree at the last (current?) window. However, to get what you want, we need one more step of splitting up the lxc tools a bit to support use by unprivileged users. (A few things will still require privilege, like hooking the host end of the container's network tunnel into the host bridge, and setting up the uid mapping. Those will become usable by unprivileged users once they've been authorized - for instance an admin with privilege will authorize uid 1000 to map userids 100,000-199,999. [Bug 1091579] Re: Networking when starting kvm in commandline
Thanks for submitting this bug. Indeed qemu does not seem to be aware of the current default locations (and should be). However doing kvm -net nic -net tap,script=/usr/bin/qemu-ifup,downscript=/usr/bin /qemu-ifdown does work for me. Is fixing that so that the defaults work all that you are bringing up here, or is there more that you are recommending? Re: [Bug 1091579] [NEW] Networking when starting kvm in commandline
Quoting Daniel Eiteneuer (nue...@gruenbaer.net): Sorry, a few more clarifications: Public bug reported: Hello, I started a virtual machine on the command line in Ubuntu 12.10 64bit via: sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -m 2048 -enable-kvm -cpu core2duo -usb -device usb-tablet,id=input0 -vga std -vnc 0.0.0.0:10 -net nic -net tap -drive file=/vmachine.qcow2 Instead of starting the machine, I got an error: /etc/kvm/kvm-ifup: could not launch network script qemu-system-x86_64: -net tap: Device 'tap' could not be initialized Right, as I've mentioned these are actually in /usr/bin/qemu-ifup and /usr/bin/qemu-ifdown. This is the bug I believe must be fixed. But they can be used as I showed before. I created a bridge as described in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking Thus I installed libcap2-bin and bridge-utils and I changed my /etc/network/interfaces to auto lo iface lo inet loopback auto eth0 iface eth0 inet manual auto br0 iface br0 inet static address 192.168.115.15 network 192.168.115.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.115.255 gateway 192.168.115.254 dns-nameservers 192.168.115.10 dns-search sirah.int bridge_ports eth0 bridge_stp off bridge_fd 0 bridge_maxwait 0 Note that when you do this, you are NO LONGER using the libvirt bridge as you mentioned in another comment. I executed sudo setcap cap_net_admin=ei /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 and edited /etc/security/capability.conf. This is fine, and documented, and will not be done by default by the package.
