[Bug 1092327] [NEW] [radosgw] swift gateway creates object with bad permissions unless 'rgw swift use keystone = true' is specified

2012-12-19 Thread James Page
Public bug reported:

Its possible to get buckets and object with bad permissions when using
the radosgw keystone integration unless 'rgw swift use keystone = true'
is specified; this caused top level operations such as 'swift list' to
return no content.

Discussed upstream; this directive will be dropped and turned on
automatically if the keystone integration is configured.

[Bug 1029430] Re: KVM guests networking issues with no virbr0 and with vhost_net kernel modules loaded

2012-12-19 Thread OpenStack Hudson
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/18336
Committed:
http://github.com/openstack/nova/commit/901a3dacb6f2d36cbe8d23707dba75452e91df33
Submitter: Jenkins
Branch:master

commit 901a3dacb6f2d36cbe8d23707dba75452e91df33
Author: Adam Gandelman adam.gandel...@canonical.com
Date: Tue Dec 18 09:50:46 2012 -0800

Add an iptables mangle rule per-bridge for DHCP.

When vhost-net is present on a host, and DHCP services are
run on the same system as guests (multi_host), an iptables
rule is needed to fill packet checksums. This adds a rule
per-bridge for multi_host networks when vhost-net is present,
similar to how newer versions of libvirt handle the issue for
bridges/networks that it manages.

Fixes LP: #1029430

EDIT: Updated tests and pep8.

[Bug 967410] Re: Windows clients cannot connect to shared printers

2012-12-19 Thread MarkosJal
We all know there are workarounds for this and what surprises me more s
that after 8 months NO FIX! I just took my install of ubuntu 12.04 to
the latest samba packages from Raring and the problem is still there . I
was already running CUPS 1.61. What I did notice is something I did not
see before when I ran

cupsaddsmb -H localhost -U root -h localhost -a -v

It returned an error about an invalid printer .

So then I run
rpcclient -U root localhost -c enumdrivers
and
rpcclient -U root localhost -c enumprinters

And only one driver and two printers (one is PDF) . The PDF printer nor
driver are anywhere t be fund but the driver for the PDF printer was
made available to windows! What gets even weirder is that I cn print to
the PDF printer via Samba and a postscript driver! Considering that
samba does not even see it as installed thats odd

Is this a samba bug or cups bug?

[Bug 1092058] [NEW] VM boots from Hard Disk instead of USB host device

2012-12-19 Thread David Bensimon
Public bug reported:

I created a bootable USB stick on my host. Then I tried to boot it
inside one of my VMs using virt-manager.

What happened:
1) There is no easy way to select a USB disk in the boot order from Boot Options
2) In Boot Options, enabling Enable Boot menu makes it possible to press F12
and this should give easy access to a connected hosts USB device. Unfortunately
the device does not show up in this menu (see attached).

What was expected:
-Boot options should show the USB device
-F12 should show the USB device

[Bug 961142] Re: chef 0.10: package installation: returned 100, expected 0

2012-12-19 Thread Romain Cambien
Hi,

I had the same problem with cloud-init and chef.

Some package installation failed with code 100 (Dpkg sub-process
failed).

I manage to fix it by installing chef and running chef-client manually
in the cloud-config :

#cloud-config
output: { all: '| tee -a /var/log/cloud-init-output.log' }
packages:
  - chef
chef:
  install_type: packages
  server_url: http://xxx:4000
  validation_name: chef-validator
  validation_key: |
-BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-
xxx
-END RSA PRIVATE KEY-
  run_list:
- role[front]
runcmd:
  - [chef-client]

I also have a problem during postfix package installation that become
interactive when installed by chef through cloud-init.

I tested with Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 on Amazon EC2.

And no longer exists on alce. I couldn't find any reasonable way to
kill the instance entirely (ec2-terminate-instances as an admin user
had no affect) or trivially remove it from the database. I ended up
modifying the nova libvirt driver to skip instances it can't find with
the attached patch.

(FAOD, I'm attaching the patch mostly to illustrate the problem and
our workaround, not necessarily for use as is in the packages or
 upstream.)

This is all with current Ubuntu 12.04 packages (including
precise-proposed).

[Bug 1092110] [NEW] Please consider enabling --start_guests_on_host_boot=true by default

2012-12-19 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

When a server is shut down cleanly any running guest instances cleanly
go down, but they don't come back up automatically.

Fixing this appears to be as trivial as adding:

--start_guests_on_host_boot=true

To /etc/nova/nova.conf. Could we please consider doing that by
default in the Ubuntu packages?

[Bug 1092120] [NEW] Cobbler PXE menu template mislabelled as MAAS

2012-12-19 Thread Michael DeHaan
Public bug reported:

On installing cobbler for non-MAAS purposes I found out that
dhcp.template is adapted from upstream.

The label in vi /etc/cobbler/pxe/pxedefault.template says Ubuntu
MAAS, when Cobbler can be installed easily without MAAS.

Basically the MAAS installer should replace this file only if we're
actually configuring MAAS, and otherwise the menu presented to users
should still say Cobbler.

[Bug 898840] Re: 'default' preseed should be enlister

2012-12-19 Thread Michael DeHaan
Preseeds need to be modified upstream.

old bug, though this is relevant -- https://github.com/jtopjian/cobbler-
admin/tree/master/snippets

it's a collection of pressed changes to try to bring cobbler's
capabilities for EL/Fedora to Debian/Ubuntu.

In particular, I'm missing the pxe_just_once feature which is QUITE
useful when combined with power management.

https://github.com/jtopjian/cobbler-
admin/blob/master/snippets/ubuntu_late_command

enlist is not an upstream thing so pre seeds should not rely on it
(unless upstreamed), but there is a built-in registration hook

[Bug 1092126] [NEW] Instances can get into a 'highlander' state - no obvious way to kill them

2012-12-19 Thread James Troup
Public bug reported:

With vanilla Ubuntu 12.04 (including precise-proposed) we often see
instances get into a 'highlander' state. They're in an 'error' state,
like so:

RESERVATION r-n1d0t747 c519923c921a404c96ebc8210a4ec67a
juju-canonistack2, juju-canonistack2-10

error None (c519923c921a404c96ebc8210a4ec67a, alce) 0
m1.small2012-07-02T02:12:56.000Znova
monitoring-disabledinstance-store

This is particularly problematic when combined with things like LP
#1092108. There doesn't seem to be any reasonable way to kill the
instances (ec2-terminate-instances as either the owner or an admin
user has no effect).

(I realise there's not a lot of detail here; I'm happy to any more
that's asked for, but the focus of the bug (from my POV) is the
unkillable nature of these instances, not how/that they're in an
 error state.)

Hmm - size does not actually seem to matter; radosgw dies in the code
which tries to detect the type of the file.

If I remove the extensions all seems good.

[Bug 1027219] Re: [Precise] Default install assumes MaaS

2012-12-19 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

After installation of cobbler on 12.04 there is a MaaS-specific syslinux
  configuration:

  $ cat /var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default

  DEFAULT menu
  PROMPT 0
  MENU TITLE Ubuntu MAAS
  TIMEOUT 200
  TOTALTIMEOUT 6000
  ONTIMEOUT local

  LABEL local
- MENU LABEL (local)
- MENU DEFAULT
- LOCALBOOT -1
-
+ MENU LABEL (local)
+ MENU DEFAULT
+ LOCALBOOT -1

  MENU end

+ This is strange.

- This is strange.
+ [Impact]
+ In precise, the PXE menu shows 'Ubuntu MAAS' as it was used by default by
MAAS. Since we no longer use cobbler, this is no longer necessary and we should
change the name back to default name.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Install cobbler
+ 2. Check /var/lib/tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default and verify that MENU TITLE
says other than 'Ubuntu MAAS'
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None. This only drops a patch that changes a name displayed on the PXE boot
menu.

[Bug 898840] Re: 'default' preseed should be enlister

2012-12-19 Thread Andres Rodriguez
Hi Michael,

As part of orchestra, we do have our own preseeds and snippets that
might be useful to push upstream. This includes the late_command to
disable pxe as a snippet [1], [2]. The enlistment thing for default is
orchestra (deprecated) only, which doesn't really affect cobbler.

If you are interested in merging all the amount of patches we have to
make cobbler fully functional in ubuntu, I'll be more than happy to
help.

Best regards.

Yes, cobbler-enlist is a tool that we developed in order to be able to
register nodes with cobbler during the installation process. In other
words, this tool was specifically developed to register nodes with
cobbler, from the Debian Installer, and as part as our now deprecated
Orchestra.

Hope this info helps.

Cheers.

Re: [Bug 1090462] Re: lxc-info, lxc-stop and lxc-list doesn't work for non-root users

2012-12-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Gleb Peregud (glebe...@gmail.com):
Oops, missed the point that lxc-setcap is not recommended. Thank you for
 the response!

Is it possible to get it to work using some yet-unsupported version of
the kernel? Can you point out some feature status document where I can
 read about what is missing?

The last time I set up containers working with user namespaces I
documented it at

http://s3hh.wordpress.com/2012/10/31/full-ubuntu-container-confined-in-a
-user-namespace/

Most of the kernel patches in there were actually just accepted
into Linus' tree at the last (current?) window.

However, to get what you want, we need one more step of splitting
up the lxc tools a bit to support use by unprivileged users. (A
few things will still require privilege, like hooking the host
end of the container's network tunnel into the host bridge, and
setting up the uid mapping. Those will become usable by unprivileged
users once they've been authorized - for instance an admin with
privilege will authorize uid 1000 to map userids 100,000-199,999.

The plan right now is to do that work during the next (13.10) cycle.

[Bug 1091579] Re: Networking when starting kvm in commandline

2012-12-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for submitting this bug. Indeed qemu does not seem to be aware
of the current default locations (and should be). However doing

kvm -net nic -net tap,script=/usr/bin/qemu-ifup,downscript=/usr/bin
/qemu-ifdown

does work for me.

Is fixing that so that the defaults work all that you are bringing up
here, or is there more that you are recommending?

(Since I believe there is a workaround, I would ordinareily lower the
priority to low or medium, but as it affects defaults I'll leave it at
high)

[Bug 1091523] Re: Testing Raring in KVM displays visual artifacts (affects installer world map, login screen, wallpaper)

2012-12-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
I suspect this is a duplicate of bug 1054129.

The question is whether the livecd kernel should be doing something to
avoid using the cirrus driver?

virt-manager should be using something other than cirrus by default.

It's also worth checking whether qemu 1.3 fixes the cirrus bug.

Re: [Bug 1091579] [NEW] Networking when starting kvm in commandline

2012-12-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Daniel Eiteneuer (nue...@gruenbaer.net):

Sorry, a few more clarifications:

 Public bug reported:

 Hello,
I started a virtual machine on the command line in Ubuntu 12.10 64bit via:
 sudo qemu-system-x86_64 -m 2048 -enable-kvm -cpu core2duo -usb -device
usb-tablet,id=input0 -vga std -vnc 0.0.0.0:10 -net nic -net tap -drive
 file=/vmachine.qcow2

Instead of starting the machine, I got an error:
/etc/kvm/kvm-ifup: could not launch network script
qemu-system-x86_64: -net tap: Device 'tap' could not be initialized

Right, as I've mentioned these are actually in /usr/bin/qemu-ifup and
/usr/bin/qemu-ifdown. This is the bug I believe must be fixed. But
they can be used as I showed before.

I created a bridge as described in
 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/KVM/Networking
Thus I installed libcap2-bin and bridge-utils and I changed my
 /etc/network/interfaces to

 auto lo
 iface lo inet loopback
 auto eth0
 iface eth0 inet manual
 auto br0
 iface br0 inet static
 address 192.168.115.15
 network 192.168.115.0
 netmask 255.255.255.0
 broadcast 192.168.115.255
 gateway 192.168.115.254
 dns-nameservers 192.168.115.10
 dns-search sirah.int
 bridge_ports eth0
 bridge_stp off
 bridge_fd 0
 bridge_maxwait 0

Note that when you do this, you are NO LONGER using the libvirt bridge as
you mentioned in another comment.

 I executed
 sudo setcap cap_net_admin=ei /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64
 and edited /etc/security/capability.conf.

This is fine, and documented, and will not be done by default by the
package.

So if I understand correctly fixing the default script locations will
be sufficient for this bug?

[Bug 1025244] Re: qcow2 image increasing disk size above the virtual limit

2012-12-19 Thread Serge Hallyn
I don't know of any qcow2-based workaround.

Is anyone actively working on fixing the qcow2 code? In particular, the
fact that after removing snapshots, un-used blocks are not reclaimed and
disk size is never reduced?

One possible workaround (the one I would use) would be to use lvm-based
snapshotting instead.

hw/9pfs: Remove O_NOATIME flag from 9pfs open() calls in readonly mode

When a 9p filesystem is exported with the readonly flag, QEMU adds the
O_NOATIME flag to all accesses. This causes all reads to fail when qemu
is run as non-root and the runas user doesn't own the files being
accessed. The patch is a one-liner; please add it to the distribution
  patches.
+
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Download ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso
+ 2. As a non-root user,
+
+ $ mkdir testdir
+ $ echo value testdir/testfile
+ $ sudo chown -R root:root testdir
+
+ 3. Start the VM, again as a non-root user:
+
+ $ qemu-system-x86_64 -cdrom /path/to/ubuntu-12.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso -vga

+ -fsdev local,id=foo,path=testdir,security_model=none,readonly \
+ -device virtio-9p-pci,fsdev=foo,mount_tag=foo
+
+ 4. Inside the VM, select Try Ubuntu, open a terminal, and run:
+
+ $ sudo mount -t 9p -o trans=virtio,version=9p2000.L,ro foo /mnt
+ $ ls /mnt
+ testfile
+ $ cat /mnt/testfile

cirrus is getting a KMS driver, so cirrus should remain the default, and
the driver issue should be looked at in raring.

[Bug 1092020] [NEW] init: network-interface (vlan3) pre-start process (1683) terminated with status 1

2012-12-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Ubuntu 12.04/x86-64

I have following in

/etc/network/interfaces

auto vlan3
iface vlan3 inet static
vlan-raw-device eth0
address 192.168.42.196
netmask 255.255.255.192
network 192.168.42.192
masklen 26
broadcast 192.168.42.255

it looks good and almost the same on another machine:

auto vlan3
iface vlan3 inet static
vlan-raw-device eth0
address 192.168.42.195
netmask 255.255.255.192
network 192.168.42.192
masklen 26
broadcast 192.168.42.255

but get:

init: network-interface (vlan3) pre-start process (1683) terminated with
status 1

on boot.

Another machine interface works OK.

Looks like bug...

[Bug 1092020] Re: init: network-interface (vlan3) pre-start process (1683) terminated with status 1

2012-12-19 Thread Steve Langasek
That's not a bug in upstart. The interface failing to come up may be a
bug in your config, or it may be a bug in the scripts called by ifup.
Please attach the contents of /var/log/upstart/network-interface-
vlan3.log.

Hi, I just noticed this bug and have 4 hypervisors affected by it. I
would be more than happy to test the SRU package from -proposed if
someone is kind enough to publish it there again. I will provide quick
test results.

Best regards,
