[Bug 1103357] [NEW] dnsmasq 2.6.1 package update required for precise

2013-01-23 Thread Jesse Pretorius
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu Precise currently ships with dnsmasq 2.59, but due to the issue
reported in https://lists.launchpad.net/openstack/msg11696.html we
require that to be updated in Precise to at least 2.61. I see that
Quantal already has 2.63. Please backport this update for Precise!

[Bug 1103362] [NEW] Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups

2013-01-23 Thread Arrigo Marchiori
Public bug reported:

On Precise, squid3 is started by a upstart job, while bind9 is not.
This causes problem if squid3 needs to do DNS lookups when parsing its
configuration file.

Example: the same machine is a DNS server and a proxy.
The file /etc/squid3/squid.conf contains the following line:
acl myacl src host.name

The bind9 service would be able to resolve host.name, but it may not be
started before squid3. If this happens, squids logs the following error
messages:

[...]
squid3: Bungled squid.conf line 727: acl myacl src host.name
[ 7167.978333] init: squid3 main process (4637) terminated with status 1
[ 7167.978363] init: squid3 main process ended, respawning
squid3: Bungled squid.conf line 727: acl myacl src host.name
[ 7167.995068] init: squid3 main process (4643) terminated with status 1
[ 7167.995098] init: squid3 main process ended, respawning
squid3: Bungled squid.conf line 727: acl myacl src host.name
[ 7168.012017] init: squid3 main process (4649) terminated with status 1
[ 7168.012047] init: squid3 respawning too fast, stopped

This problem consistently appears on my system.

transitional package from squid to squid3

IMHO the solution to this bug should consist of:
 1- writing an upstart job for running bind9;
2- letting the squid3 upstart job depend on bind9.

[Bug 1103385] [NEW] Raring crashes on 12.04 LTS host with cirrus @800x600

2013-01-23 Thread Roman Yepishev
Public bug reported:

STR:

1. Install 13.04 current in 12.04 LTS kvm machine
2. Change resolution to 800x600 in the guest
3. Log out
4. Log in

Expected results:
Unity desktop is displayed

Actual results:
Virtual machine hangs, restarts (with no kernel panic). Sometimes general
protection fault is seen in dmesg (and bad swap file message too)

Changing cirrus model to a vga makes it possible for VM to login
properly.

The reason why I was switching to a lower resolution is because the
display did not fit into my netbook properly.

In guest 12.10 changing resolution works as expected on both cirrus and
vga.

could you please post exact steps needed to reproduce this crash?

Once done, please change the bug status back to New. Thanks!

[Bug 1103362] Re: Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups

2013-01-23 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

I think it's reasonable to request that bind9 have an upstart job, in
order to permit better dependency management for services that depend on
bind9.

But I'm not sure about making the squid3 depend on bind9. I understand
why this is required in your case, but your configuration strikes me as
quite unusual so I'm not sure if it is applicable to all users. And we
would also need to handle the case when bind9 is not installed.

If we end up not doing this in the general case, then is the kind of
case where I'd expect you to override your squid3 upstart job
dependencies by hand, using the mechanisms already provided by upstart
to do this (eg.
http://web.archive.org/web/20110811021301/http://upstart.at/2011/03/11
/override-files-in-ubuntu-natty/)

Marking this as Triaged, since what you are requesting is clear to
developers. And adding a bind9 task for the upstart job. But I'd prefer
to consult with others about a job start dependency from squid3 to
bind9, since I think this is a more general issue that applies wider
than just squid3.

2013-01-23 Thread Arrigo Marchiori
Robie,

thank you for your comments, the link and the mailing list pointer.

I understand that bind9 should not be explicitly listed as a dependency
of squid3. Maybe it could depend on some other well-known event that
bind9 could emit...

I find upstart a bit confusing, therefore I leave this task to those who
know the matter better than me. I am sorry I cannot be of any help on
this, but I am open for testing any solution during the development.

[Bug 1103362] Re: Precise: Squid3 does not start if ACL's require DNS lookups

2013-01-23 Thread Robie Basak
Maybe it could depend on some other well-known event that bind9
could emit...

But nothing would be there to emit that on a system that doesn't do its
own DNS. This is why the only reasonable answer I can give is to expect
sysadmins who need this kind of complex setup to add overrides to their
upstart job configuration. This does require the bind9 job to be
converted to upstart of course, and I think this would be reasonable.

I am sorry I cannot be of any help on this, but I am open for testing
any solution during the development.

I appreciate you raising this, but to avoid any misunderstanding, I
don't think this issue will make any progress without somebody to drive
it.

[Bug 1103195] Re: MAAS WebUI crashes when installing maas-region-controller only

2013-01-23 Thread Raphaël Badin
We've generating the omapi_key when the nodegroup objects are generated.
For the master nodegroup (corresponding to the main cluster controller),
this happens when the application starts up. If the maas-dns package is
not installed, the tool to generate the key might not be installed (it's
a dependency of maas-dns)… hence the error.

I suggest we refactor the code to generate the keys on-demand (i.e.
when an action implying that maas-dns is installed is triggered) rather
that in advance.

[Bug 1020238] Re: nova client keeps asking for a keyring password

2013-01-23 Thread Doug Goldstein
It is a bug when its impossible to set the initial password so it always
tells you that your password is invalid because there is no password set
for the keyring. The issue here is that the code Ubuntu adds for Nova
client initializes the keyring incorectly.

2013-01-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this error.

The syslog shows that mysql is trying to read /etc/my.cnf. This is a
nonstandard location, and one which the apparmor profile by default
denies. You'll need to update /etc/apaprmor.d/local/usr.sbin.mysqld to
grant this permission, or move the configuration file into /etc/mysql/

2013-01-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Thanks for reporting this error.

The DpkgTerminalLog.txt shows that the upgrade failed because the file
/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/mysql has been removed. That file is
required. Please grab a new copy by doing

sudo apt-get install --reinstall apparmor
dpkg -x /var/cache/apt/archives/apparmor_*.deb x
sudo cp x/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/mysql /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/

Then re-try your upgrade.

If that does not work or you need more help, please rrespond to this
mail.

[Bug 1103656] [NEW] Update Precise drbd8-utils to 8.3.13 for the 12.04.2 release

[Bug 509647] Re: [MIR] lxc

2013-01-23 Thread Stéphane Graber
Just a quick update here that I updated libseccomp in Ubuntu to address the few
issues raised in its MIR (bug 1082431).
I think that was the only blocking bits for lxc's MIR, so it'd be nice if an
MIR team member could now review LXC.

Re: [Bug 1103683] [NEW] Merge libvirt 1.0.1 from Debian experimental

2013-01-23 Thread Serge Hallyn
Quoting Xiao-Long Chen (chillermillerl...@hotmail.com):
 Public bug reported:

Would it be possible to merge libvirt 1.0.1 from Debian experimental?

no, but 1.0.1 merged from upstream was just pushed to raring.

The 1.0.1 release fixes a few issues, such as setting up a NAT network
on a remote libvirt system. A few of the apparmor patches are accepted
upstream as well as a few other patches.

Also, the Debian package enables the vbox backend. Note that libvirt *no
longer* requires VirtualBox to be installed to build the vbox backend
(this was something that was mentioned in an old bug report).

If this is something you'd specifically want to see, then absolutely
please open a new box asking for vbox to be enabled, pointing out that
vbox won't need to be in build-deps. That sounds like we can do it.

Thanks!

[Bug 1103353] Re: Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash

2013-01-23 Thread Jouko Orava
This bugs affects libldap-2.4.-2, at least versions versions 2.4.28
(2.4.28-1.1ubuntu4) and 2.4.31 (2.4.31-1ubuntu2), when compiled against GnuTLS.
The bug exists in latest openldap.org upstream versions from 2.4.28 to 2.4.33
at least; probably since they switched from custom parsing the cipher suite for
GnuTLS to GnuTLS's own. Based on this upstream report,
http://www.openldap.org/its/index.cgi/Incoming?id=6939#themesg
I suspect the bug has existed upstream at least since 2.4.25.

Based on the symptoms and crash reports, I strongly believe
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/+bug/1026057
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libnss-ldap/+bug/1090554
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=640384
are all the same bug.

To reproduce, I used a simplified ldapsearch-like program, which
connects to an ldap server (ldap:// URIs), then sets the desired
priority (cipher suite) based on a command-line parameter, issues
StartTLS to secure the connection, then does a simple anonymous search.
If the cipher suite is not valid for GnuTLS, the program crashes in
libldap_r-2.4-2. The test program is attached for easier bug
verification. (Note: You need an LDAP server supporting StartTLS to
connect to.)

It seems that in any application that relies on libldap parsing the
cipher suite will crash the same way, when the cipher suite is not valid
for GnuTLS, and the connection involves StartTLS. This includes at least
sssd: put e.g. ldap_tls_cipher_suite = FOOBAR and
ldap_id_use_start_tls = True in sssd.conf, and use an ldap:// URI, and
sssd will crash.

Correct cipher suites for GnuTLS are very complex to construct; for
example, to allow only AES and CAMELLIA 256-bit ciphers with 160 or
256-bit SHA MACs and RSA key exchange and any compression and any TLS
version (excluding SSH3.0), one needs to use 'NONE:+VERS-TLS1.2:+VERS-
TLS1.1:+VERS-TLS1.0:+COMP-
ALL:+AES-256-CBC:+CAMELLIA-256-CBC:+RSA:+SHA1:+SHA256.

If the Ubuntu OpenLDAP developers and users can confirm the bug, and
that this patch fixes the issue, it would be easier to push the patch
upstream. I do not currently use LDAP on my machines, as I only
investigated the issue to help a friend. So, it does not matter to me
whether the patch is accepted or not, or if the bug is further
investigated or not. I'm very willing to help, though.

[Bug 1103353] Re: Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash

2013-01-23 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for your detailed investigation into this. I appreciate the
time you've spent on this.

Marking as medium importance, since a workaround is available (which I
believe is to fix the cipher suite string to something valid, right?)

If the Ubuntu OpenLDAP developers and users can confirm the bug, and
that this patch fixes the issue, it would be easier to push the patch
upstream.

This is reasonable, although I'm not sure there are enough Ubuntu
OpenLDAP developers to make this likely. Until then this bug may sit
unattended, but your writeup will at least help others so I appreciate
it being here.

For anyone else who comes across this: please mark it as affects me
too. If you can spare time to work on it, please confirm that it
affects Ubuntu, check to see if the upstream non-packaged release is
affected, look towards getting this reported upstream and note any new
information or progress here. We can certainly patch the Ubuntu package
if the bug and patch can be verified. But if upstream commit it and/or
acknowledge the bug, that really makes things easier. Thanks!

[Bug 1069570] Re: 1 MAC Address, two IPs - DNS is out of sync with DHCP leases databases, I think...

2013-01-23 Thread James Page
I'm also seeing this in a virtual maas deployment we are testing; when
the KVM instances boot the PXE boot gets one IP address lease and then
the OS gets a second lease with a different IP address.

Result is that the dhpd leases file contains two ip addresses for each
MAC address; order appears non-deterministic so whether the DNS entry
for a given node is related to the PXE or OS lease is random.

[Bug 1103353] Re: Invalid GnuTLS cipher suite strings causes libldap to crash

2013-01-23 Thread Jouko Orava
Correct. The workaround to avoid the crash is to use a strictly valid
GnuTLS cipher suite string, for example NORMAL or SECURE128 or
SECURE192 or SECURE256.

In those rare cases where those existing defaults are not acceptable
(due to security concerns, for example), the minimal search.c program
I attached to #4 can be used to try to find a valid cipher suite string,
connecting to an LDAP server (using ldap:// URI, and StartTLS). It also
reports the cipher, mac, and kx achieved when the StartTLS is
successful.

I'll see if I can report this upstream to openldap.org, too.
