[Bug 1178933] [NEW] Time drifting when set to update Automatically from Internet
You have been subscribed to a public bug: On Ubuntu 12.04 desktop, in System Settings Time Date, when the time is set to update Automatically from Internet it syncs once but then drifts out over a period of days. In Syslog I can see that ntpdate is called on boot but is never called again. I have seen suggestions that it should re-sync if the DHCP lease is renewed, but as I have fixed IP address then the lease is not being renewed. I expected to see ntpdate called from cron.daily (or similar) but it does not appear to be there. I seem to remember on an older version of Ubuntu that ntp was automatically installed when I selected update from internet, but this did not happen on this occasion. [Bug 802400] Re: mysql help sends unchecked contents to mysqld
Oracle fixed it in 5.1.66 and 5.5.28. Closing. percona-server/5.1$ bzr log -r 0.15786.4 revno: 0.15786.4 committer: Venkata Sidagam venkata.sida...@oracle.com branch nick: mysql-5.1-13955256 timestamp: Thu 2012-07-19 13:52:34 +0530 message: Bug #12615411 - server side help doesn't work as first statement Problem description: Giving help 'contents' in the mysql client as a first statement gives error Analysis: In com_server_help() function the server_cmd variable was initialised with buffer-ptr(). And the server_cmd variable is not updated since we are passing 'contents'(with single quote) so the buffer-ptr() consists of the previous buffer values and it was sent to the mysql_real_query() hence we are getting error. Fix: We are not initialising the server_cmd variable and we are updating the variable with server_cmd= cmd_buf in any of the case i.e with single quote or without single quote for the contents. [Bug 1179344] Re: ssh doesn't get pty; says inappropriate ioctl for device
@cjwatson, you're correct that the bugs seem related. For example: May 13 09:45:42 emu sshd[12679]: Accepted publickey for codegnome from 192.168.1.127 port 50803 ssh2 May 13 09:45:42 emu sshd[12679]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user codegnome by (uid=0) May 13 09:45:42 emu systemd-logind[1778]: New session c20 of user codegnome. In other words, while I think they are related I don't think they are duplicates. I am subscribed to the other bug too, so I will test again when the other bug has been closed and see if it closes this one as well. [Bug 833994] Re: debian-installer does not support https when using with preseed files
I don't think certificates are necessary here: we could permit any https without any certificate checking, and still have an improvement, with no additional dangers over using http. For example, you would remain vulnerable to DNS spoofing or man-in-the-middle problems, but you would not be subject to the exposure of secret information in packages. [Blueprint servercloud-r-fastpath-install] fast server install for cloud-image like experience
Blueprint changed by Scott Moser: Whiteboard changed: User Stories: Rocky runs a MAAS cluster. The nodes have frequent turnover and installation time is time lost. Faster installation means higher usage time. Assumptions: The fast path installer is intended to only support simplistic cloud-image-like installation. Users wishing for for more complex partition layout may need to use the debian installer path. Risks: bootloader installation is non-trivial. The debian installer does a good job of doing this. If we can't re-use that logic we risk failing to boot. UEFI boot is also complex and may be required for some systems. Test Plans: This code path will be used in the Ubuntu openstack CI framework to help it install faster. That will prove at least one functional path. Additionally, the code is testable inside kvm with a cloud-image serving as the bootable system and installing to a target second disk in the system. Release Note: Nodes installed through MAAS can use the fast path installer to significantly reduce installation time. It results in a cloud-image like environment with customization available via cloud-init on first boot. + + + == How to use in maas == + maas-cli maaslocal tags new name='use-fastpath-installer' comment='BE FASTER' + maas-cli maaslocal tag update-nodes use-fastpath-installer add=node-a95b107a-ad20-11e2-9e40-2c768a4e4495 + maas-cli maaslocal tag nodes use-fastpath-installer + ( cd /opt sudo bzr branch lp:~smoser/+junk/xinstall xinstall ) + xinstall_preseed=/usr/share/maas/preseeds/preseed_xinstall + sudo dpkg-divert --rename --divert ${xinstall_preseed}.dist --add ${xinstall_preseed} + sudo tee ${xinstall_preseed} EOF + {{py: + if http_proxy: + proxy = http_proxy + else: + proxy = http://+server_host+:8000/; + if node.distro_series: + release = node.distro_series + else: + release = precise + import subprocess + preseed = subprocess.check_output([/opt/xinstall/make-userdata-maas, + --apt-proxy=+proxy, + --dpkg-selections=+preseed_data, + --finished-url=+node_disable_pxe_url, + --finished-url-data=+node_disable_pxe_data, + http://+cluster_host+/MAAS/static/images/+node.architecture+/+node.distro_series+/xinstall/root.tar.gz;, + /dev/vda]) + }} + {{preseed}} + EOF + links: + * maas tag doc: http://maas.ubuntu.com/docs/tags.html -- fast server install for cloud-image like experience https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/servercloud-r-fastpath-install -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
