[Bug 1214252] [NEW] 1.6.0 qemu-system-ppc64 doesn't allow console setting

the console setting is not taken by the software, as we still see:

No console specified using screen keyboard

I'm running qemu on Ubuntu server 12.04 LTS.

[Bug 1200878] Re: Upgrade breaks existing pyjuju deployment

2013-08-20 Thread James Page
As there is still no upgrade path for environments created with py-juju
to juju-core, I'm going to re-introduce the juju-0.7 package to saucy so
we don't shoot all the existing juju environments that are already in
use.

juju-core will still be the default juju implementation for saucy;
however switching to the python implementation should be supported to
allow people time to switch over prior to 14.04 when I would like to
drop py-juju.

This is still broken in LTS. I don't know the specific policies, but I
assumed LTS would get these type of fixes?

[Bug 1084028] Re: openvswitch based interfaces not started in time during boot

2013-08-20 Thread James Page
@Jesse  Matteo

I'm not comfortable backporting this to the version in 12.04 - however,
I can offer a compromise.

OpenvSwitch 1.10 will be included in the Cloud Archive for OpenStack
Havana on 12.04 and would include this fix (assuming I can get in enough
testing this week to satisfy myself that its OK).

2013-08-20 Thread Sidnei da Silva
Public bug reported:

Seems like overlayfs and unix sockets are not playing well. It might be
racy, as it fails consistently on my laptop with an SSD, whereas for
smoser it only failed a single time.

Steps to reproduce:

REL=precise
$ sudo lxc-create -n source-$REL-amd64 -t ubuntu-cloud -- \
   --release=$REL --arch=amd64

## clone via overlayfs ##
$ sudo lxc-clone --snapshot -B overlayfs -o source-$REL-amd64 -n
$REL-overlayfs-01

$ sudo lxc-start -n $REL-overlayfs-01

### inside ###
$ sudo apt-get update  sudo apt-get install supervisor -y

$ sudo service supervisor stop
$ sudo sed -i.dist 's,var/run/*supervisor.sock,srv/supervisor.sock,'
/etc/supervisor/supervisord.conf
$ sudo service supervisor start

the behavior of juju-origin: ppa varies by client version and

[Bug 1213021] Re: [SRU] openvswitch 1.4.0 not compatible with lts-raring HWE kernel

2013-08-20 Thread Dave Walker
Hello James, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openvswitch-lts-raring into precise-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/openvswitch-lts-raring/1.9.0-0ubuntu1~ubuntu12.04.1 in a few hours, and
then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1022386] Re: Unable to obtain lock file:///etc/ held by root

2013-08-20 Thread jezzman
You might want to run sudo bzr break-lock /etc.

^^^

This line worked 100% for me, after surfing the net for ages, finding a whole
bunch of crud about killing processes and looking for files, uninstalling
etckeeper. this single line got me back to apt-get install and seems to have
fixed my package problems.

I had a package error with virtualbox dpkg. This seems to have locked me
out of my Ubuntu 10.0.4 package upgrades and updating. my /etc directory
was locked for approx. 1500 hours - thats like 50 days! It may well have
been another package, I don't know. All I know for sure is that bzr was
playing up, acting bizaare and I couldn't install ANYTHING since my /etc
was locked. It's simple now, if you think about it. Son't worry too
much about downloading installing stuff, you just need to unlock your
/etc directory. Look at the error messages and really try to get a feel
of the problem, I knew my system was LOCKED in some way.

Anyway, now it's unlocked, I'll post back if there's any problems, it
seems to have installed my ruby gems and git nicely.

Many Thanks!
Jeremy.

[Bug 1214500] Re: consistent failure with overlayfs and unix sockets

2013-08-20 Thread Scott Moser
Attaching 'serv.py' which mimics behavior of supervisor/http.py in
supervisor for setting up the socket, and then implements an 'echo'
server. client.py is just a simple client to run and show the problem.

One would expect to be able to do this:
$ ./serv.py /tmp/my-socket
$ ./client.py /tmp/my-socket
Received 'Hello, world'

The behavior seems to differ between precise and saucy kernels.
One thing to note is that on precise kernel and overlayfs, I see:
$ sudo rm -f /tmp/my-socket

$ ./serv.py /tmp/my-socket
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File ./serv.py, line 22, in module
os.link(tempname, socketname)
OSError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted

$ sudo rm -f /tmp/my-socket
$ sudo ./serv.py /tmp/my-socket
$ sudo ./client.py /tmp/my-socket
Received 'Hello, world'

Ie, this works as root, but not as non-root.

[Bug 1214500] Re: consistent failure with overlayfs and unix sockets

2013-08-20 Thread Serge Hallyn
Regarding creating the socket as a non-root user - did you chown the
directory to your user's uid? I have no problem once I've done that in
running the server.

I have the same issue with the client:

sudo mkdir /mnt2 /upper
sudo mount -t overlayfs -o lowerdir=/mnt2,upperdir=/upper none /mnt
sudo chown -R ubuntu: /mnt
./serv.py /mnt/sock
./client.py /mnt/sock

[Bug 1213879] Re: kernel fault ovs 1.10.1 + linux 3.11

2013-08-20 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
James Page, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an
update is available for your BIOS (2.55). If you update to this, does it
change anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version  sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1212051] Re: Windows XP guest lose connectivity with bridged network

2013-08-20 Thread Hector Perez
Actually the Windows XP freeze. Is not only a comunication problem.

We can verify that when the problem occurs, the VM is freezed. Then,
when we connect via VNC the machine continue working as never had been
freezed, but the clock keep with the time of the freeze. We must adjust
the clock.

[Bug 1214722] [NEW] open-vm-dkms 2011.12.20-562307-0ubuntu1: open-vm-tools kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘d_alloc_root’] (bug 100344 also affects precise)

2013-08-20 Thread Shaddy Baddah
Public bug reported:

As per reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-
tools/+bug/1000344, this also affects Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS (Precise
Pangolin).

If I understand the LTS policy correctly, this should be fixed for
precise. As otherwise, the implication is that LTS users should upgrade
off of the LTS release if they want a working package.

I understand if this is considered a duplicate bug. However, as it
describe the problem for precise/LTS, and on an assumption that the Fix
Released status has moved anyone on, I'm taking that chance.
