[Bug 1278770] [NEW] upgrading pollinate causes conffile prompt
Public bug reported: Today, upgrading our autopkgtest machines hangs eternally on Unpacking pollinate (3.17-0ubuntu1) over (3.12-0ubuntu1) ... [...] Setting up pollinate (3.17-0ubuntu1) ... Configuration file '/etc/init/pollinate.conf' == Modified (by you or by a script) since installation. == Package distributor has shipped an updated version. What would you like to do about it ? Your options are: Y or I : install the package maintainer's version N or O : keep your currently-installed version D : show the differences between the versions Z : start a shell to examine the situation The default action is to keep your current version. There certainly has not been any manual modification to this file. It shouldn't ask a conffile prompt for an unmodified file. If that changed from config file to dpkg conffile, it should keep around an md5sum list of unmodified files from previous versions, and silently update the file to the current version for all of them. ** Affects: pollen (Ubuntu) Importance: High Assignee: Dustin Kirkland (kirkland) Status: New ** Tags: dist-upgrade qa-daiy-testing ** Tags added: dist-upgrade qa-daiy-testing ** Changed in: pollen (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: pollen (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) = Dustin Kirkland (kirkland) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to pollen in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1278770 Title: upgrading pollinate causes conffile prompt To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pollen/+bug/1278770/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1278365] Re: ntpdate target server
Quote: 1. Where are you find a privacy issue? Please read the docu at The issue is based in the name and origin of the target server. Calling ntp.ubuntu cleary tells what kind of OS you are using. This is an increasing issue today 2. The use of ntp.ubuntu.com is IMHO the availability of the ntp - service. Ubuntu can not guarantee the availability of other service providers over the entire term. I did not intent to propose the use of usual public ntp servers. Ubuntu should use a canonical server, but ths server should maybe be used by other clients to to prevent identivication of the System. 3. It is easy to change the ntp server eg via dhcp This does not change that most Systems will still have this issue. Therefore it should be solved by changing the defult behavior. We already point people at the NTP pool: $ cat /etc/ntp.conf ... server 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org server 1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org server 2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org server 3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org ... Yes that is correct, but it still contains a pool of ntp servers only used by Ubuntu correct? [Bug 1275068] Re: consider upgrade to openssh 6.5p1 for 14.04
This bug was fixed in the package openssh - 1:6.5p1-1 --- openssh (1:6.5p1-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream release (http://www.openssh.com/txt/release-6.5, LP: #1275068): - ssh(1): Add support for client-side hostname canonicalisation using a set of DNS suffixes and rules in ssh_config(5). This allows unqualified names to be canonicalised to fully-qualified domain names to eliminate ambiguity when looking up keys in known_hosts or checking host certificate names (closes: #115286). * Switch to git; adjust Vcs-* fields. * Convert to git-dpm, and drop source package documentation associated with the old bzr/quilt patch handling workflow. * Drop ssh-vulnkey and the associated ssh/ssh-add/sshd integration code, leaving only basic configuration file compatibility, since it has been nearly six years since the original vulnerability and this code is not likely to be of much value any more (closes: #481853, #570651). See https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2013/09/msg00240.html for my full reasoning. * Add OpenPGP signature checking configuration to watch file (thanks, Daniel Kahn Gillmor; closes: #732441). * Add the pam_keyinit session module, to create a new session keyring on login (closes: #734816). * Incorporate default path changes from shadow 1:4.0.18.1-8, removing /usr/bin/X11 (closes: #644521). * Generate ED25519 host keys on fresh installations. Upgraders who wish to add such host keys should manually add 'HostKey /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key' to /etc/ssh/sshd_config and run 'ssh-keygen -q -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key -N -t ed25519'. * Drop long-obsolete SSH now uses protocol 2 by default section from README.Debian. * Add systemd support (thanks, Sven Joachim; closes: #676830). -- Colin Watson cjwat...@debian.org Mon, 10 Feb 2014 14:58:26 + ** Changed in: openssh (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1275068 Title: consider upgrade to openssh 6.5p1 for 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssh/+bug/1275068/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Paul, Would it be possible for you to collect console output? On the other hand, what you could try is to obtain the output of the scripts themselves from the database. These are in base64. Use thefollowing command: maas-cli username commissioning-results list The results yields json output from each fo the commissioning scripts. [Bug 1278359] Re: ntpdate call frequency
I cannot see how making time sync calls even more sparse would not cause even more drift. ntpdate is obsolete. I am not even sure why we still deploy it instead of ntp. Inertia, perhaps? But this would not solve your issue: the replacement, be it NTP or openntpd, or whatever, still needs to keep the clock synchronised, so would still need to call NTP lock servers every so often. How often will depend, specifically, on the quality of your computer's RTC, and the importance you give to clock synchronisation. I do not think, in general, once per day is good enough. I think -- depending on the quality of your RTC -- from around one hour to, perhaps, a few hours would be good enough. If your RTC is so bad you need a sync call every few minutes, better get a more reliable machine. Certainly, and never, more than a day. My personal view, and problem I see on using ntpdate, is actually the opposite of yours: I think ntpdate does NOT maintain clock synchronisation. Granted, it *does* sync the RTC at network up. Then, the RTC will slowly but surely drift. Given machines that more and more stay powered on connected, one sync per network up is NOT enough. Instead, we should move to ntp or openntpd. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ntp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1278359 Title: ntpdate call frequency To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ntp/+bug/1278359/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Rationale - 'go' build tool built using gccgo, avoiding the need to promote two golang toolchains to Ubuntu main. Security Searching for golang CVE's turned up nothing (this package is a rename of the golang 1.2 source package). Quality assurance - Package installs cleanly, go tool installed using alternatives at higher priority that golang-go version in universe. Dependencies gccgo is in universe, all other dependencies in main. Standards compliance OK Maintenance --- Some bugs expected upfront but should stabilize before release. Probably picked up by ubuntu-server if foundations team don't want to. Background information -- This package is a re-cut of the golang upstream codebase with selected cherry-picks from upstream VCS for gccgo support, along with a patch to support building using gccgo + Make. The only code actually used is in src/cmd/go. juju-mongodb Availability In universe, available on all required architectures (x86, armhf, arm64, ppc64el). Rationale - MongoDB is a dependency for operating a Juju deployed Ubuntu environment. Security MongoDB has had some CVE's in the past, related to the use of the V8 and Spidermonkey Javascript engine in the Mongo Shell; however juju-mongodb builds without support for Javascript scripting, avoiding the historic CVE's (which where fixed upstream anyway). Quality assurance - Package installs cleanly, package build process runs upstream smoke tests (minus jstests due to disabling javascript support). Tests pass on all architectures. Dependencies All in main already Standards compliance OK (well is scons but we won't hold that against it) Maintenance --- Upstream MongoDB run stable releases with point updates; its intended that a MRE is applied for this package so point releases can be pushed as SRU's. Its also possible that we might need to bump a major version (2.4.x - 2.6.x); as this package is specific to Juju, we can constrain the impact and regression testing to Juju only. Background information -- Why a separate package? it was agreed at the last vUDS that having a separate package allows us to limit a) use of v8 (disabled) which was a security concern and b) allows us to potentially update at a later date if need be only impacting juju itself. juju-core Availability In universe. Rationale - Juju is the recommended service orchestration tool for Ubuntu; as such it really needs to be a core part of Ubuntu. Security No security history, but it was agreed that a security review would be undertaken as part of the MIR process. Quality assurance - No tests are run as part of the package build process; however upstream do run these tests for all target series (12.04 - 14.04) prior to release so the overall quality of the codebase it pretty good. The package has some basic DEP-8 tests that bootstrap a local Juju environment to ensure everything hangs together OK. Dependencies juju-mongodb (see above) gccgo + gccgo-go Currently all required go dependencies are snapshotted at specific upstream commits and bundled with Juju. Standards compliance OK Maintenance ---

[Bug 1243076] Re: libapache2-mod-auth-mysql is missing in 13.10 amd64
I have confirmed what Shane described above. It seems that upstream are inactive. I haven't been able to find any sign that upstream have ported this module to the Apache 2.4 API, which is a requirement for making this work with Apache 2.4. The package has been removed from Debian testing for this reason already. I presume that all other distributions will follow suit as they upgrade to Apache 2.4. Thus, I will file a bug to have this package permanently removed from Ubuntu. If someone ports the upstream code to Apache 2.4, then this situation could change. However, feature freeze is coming up, so it seems unlikely to me that this will make Trusty. I get the impression that many people have ended up here because they want to install a LAMP stack, since some instructions somewhere state that this package should be installed to get a LAMP stack. This is incorrect. This package is only required for Apache authentication against MySQL (as opposed to doing it at the web app end, which is far more common). It appears to me that there are cargo culted instructions floating around the Internet. Since there is nothing that can be done about this situation in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug Won't Fix. ** Changed in: mod-auth-mysql (Ubuntu Saucy) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix ** Changed in: mod-auth-mysql (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: Confirmed = Won't Fix -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mod-auth-mysql in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1243076 Title: libapache2-mod-auth-mysql is missing in 13.10 amd64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mod-auth-mysql/+bug/1243076/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

My branch for the code is @ lp:~rcj/ubuntu/trusty/open-vm-tools/lp1274157 Merge request https://code.launchpad.net/~rcj/ubuntu/trusty/open-vm-tools/lp1274157/+merge/205235 Build at https://launchpad.net/~rcj/+archive/testing/ The vmhgfs (VMWare Host-Guest File System) module is no longer be supported by VMWare and it does not build on recent kernels. This merge proposal drops the vmhgfs module from the package. This eliminates the dkms package as ithis modules was the last out-of-tree module still being shipped. In removing the dkms package I am cleaning up the remaining man pages that referenced the kernel modules as well as a post-install script which had been updating the initramfs for the modules. While this does remove the out-of-tree vmhgfs kernel module, it retains the fuse code for hgfs and the mount helper which are necessary for file drag-and-drop support in open-vm-tools-desktop. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272196 Title: vmhgfs doesn't work with linux 3.13 kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/open-vm-tools/+bug/1272196/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1268906] Re: cpu soft lockup running kvm
This looks to be drilling down to a problem which seems to only affect i386 for some reason. But basically the kvm/qemu process gets into a situation where the thread_info says you have to reschedule but the per-cpu counterpart prevents that. Now the kvm/qemu process runs wildly around between trying to run the guest vcpu which is not done because the process side says reschedule and the cond_reschedule() function not doing anything because the cpu info tells it otherwise. Right now I got a test kernel back to run kvm but that is rather a vile work-around. [Bug 1268795] Re: unable to automatically commission Cisco UCS server due to BMC user permissions
I've been unable to reproduce the failure again over hundreds of tries. I ran a script that repeatedly that reset's the user in slot 10's settings, runs the maas_ipmi_autodetect.py script, and checks for the correct user permissions. It worked every time. At this point, I plan to write a patch for maas_ipmi_autodetect.py that verifies the correctness of settings after applying them. If settings are incorrect, a retry could be performed, or an error could be raised immediately. IPMI has retries built in, so if a setting isn't applied when freeipmi claims to have applied it successfully, raising an error seems like the right thing to do. This should help find the error sooner and hopefully make it easier to debug. Another thing to note is that maas_ipmi_autodetect.py doesn't check if bmc-config (freeipmi) returned an error after applying settings. I created a separate bug and merge proposal for that here https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1279107. The settings verification patch for this bug will depend on that patch. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1268795 Title: unable to automatically commission Cisco UCS server due to BMC user permissions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/maas/+bug/1268795/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1248283] Re: Juju deploy of Charm in MAAS fails because dbus fails
So quite simply, 1. dbus stops on deconfiguring-networking 2. restart networking issues deconfiguring-networking 3. dbus only starts on local-filesystems, so it never restarts. [Bug 1279116] [NEW] Missing tmp directory for GSSAPI authentication
Public bug reported: I had some trouble getting GSSAPI authentication in postfix working when moving my mail system to a new machine. GSSAPI is a bit complicated with postfix since it runs in a chroot jail. There are several guides available for this process (in particular, getting the keytab and krb5.conf files in the right place), and I did have it working on my previous machine, so I was pretty sure I had the configuration correct and that there was something wrong with the newly installed system. Postfix was producing the following errors in the system log: postfix/smtpd[5099]: warning: SASL authentication failure: GSSAPI Error: Unspecified GSS failure. Minor code may provide more information () postfix/smtpd[5099]: warning: host[x.x.x.x]: SASL GSSAPI authentication failed: generic failure. That error was not terribly useful, but strace-ing the smtpd process produced the source of the real error: lstat(/var/tmp/smtp_118, 0x7fffcafd42f0) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) unlink(/var/tmp/smtp_118) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) open(/var/tmp/smtp_118, O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_EXCL|O_TRUNC, 0600) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) unlink(/var/tmp/smtp_118) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) The process was unable to create a credential cache because the /var/tmp directory did not exist under the chroot filesystem. Creating the directory /var/spool/postfix/var/tmp with postfix-writeable permissions fixed the problem and GSSAPI authentication started working. I'm not exactly sure why the gssapi library was using /var/tmp instead of /tmp (which didn't exist either). kerberos credentials for the rest of my system are stored in /tmp. I think the postfix package should be altered to include a /var/tmp directory in the chroot file hierarchy. If that is not possible, the gssapi configuration within the chroot should be setup to use a different directory for the credential cache, which does exist and has the proper permissions. ** Affects: postfix (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to postfix in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1279116 Title: Missing tmp directory for GSSAPI authentication To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/postfix/+bug/1279116/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1279176] [NEW] IPv6 fails when interface type='direct', on top of OVS
Public bug reported: Hello! * Hypervisor is daily / latest Ubuntu 14.04 and guest is Ubuntu 12.04 and 14.04 - KVM1.7.0+dfsg-3ubuntu1 openvswitch-switch 2.0.1+git20140120-0ubuntu1 libvirt0 1.2.1-0ubuntu5 - When I create a KVM Virtual Machine with Virt-Manager, my guests have the following content: --- interface type='direct' mac address='52:54:00:99:0d:f5'/ source dev='ovsbr1' mode='bridge'/ virtualport type='openvswitch' parameters interfaceid='3f1a9ee2-bef8-4cdf-88ad-6904f317348a'/ /virtualport model type='virtio'/ address type='pci' domain='0x' bus='0x00' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/ /interface --- IPv4 works as expected but IPv6 doesn't. Then, if I edit the guest XML file with virsh edit guest-1, and change interface like this: --- interface type='bridge' mac address='52:54:00:99:0d:f5'/ source bridge='ovsbr1'/ virtualport type='openvswitch' parameters interfaceid='3f1a9ee2-bef8-4cdf-88ad-6904f317348a'/ /virtualport model type='virtio'/ address type='pci' domain='0x' bus='0x00' slot='0x03' function='0x0'/ /interface --- The both IPv4 and IPv6 works! So, I guess that there is something wrong with libvirt... Thanks! [Bug 1258900] Re: Ecryptfs,cryptsetup p/w prompt enter key failures
Do you understand that these specified bugs with Plymouth's behavior and/or these critical crypto packages make it impossible to encrypt on boot with a passphrase? This is a fundamental feature and critical to running encrypted services. Encryption of the home directory is functionally useless for servers. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to libpam-mount in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1258900 Title: Ecryptfs, cryptsetup p/w prompt enter key failures To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/cryptsetup/+bug/1258900/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1258900] Re: Ecryptfs, cryptsetup p/w prompt enter key failures
In addition encrypting on boot with a USB is not a reasonable workflow in many cases for multiple reasons. Please specify how to go about fixing these bugs namely: 1. Are these bugs stemming from unexpected behavior of Plymouth from the standpoint of the API used by these programs. Eg, please specify in psuedocode how the password prompt is initiated and closed by these scripts.
