Im using vsftpd-2.3.5 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit.
This problem appeared after I installed winbind. There before:
sudo apt-get remove winbind
sudo reboot now
Solved my problem.

I strongly suspect that somewhere in one or more of your system's
configuration files, that old numeric host name still exists.
