So the workaround for the moment is to run the following commands in a
terminal:
sudo chmod 0755 /var/lib/samba /var/cache/samba
sudo apt-get -f install
This should fixup the permissions and complete the
Load smb config files from /etc/samba/smb.conf
rlimit_max: increasing rlimit_max (1024) to minimum Windows limit (16384)
Processing section [printers]
Processing section [print$]
Loaded services file OK.
WARNING: state directory /var/lib/samba should have permissions 0755 for
browsing to work
