I'm seeing this issue as well. I have a Hardy host system, with bridged
network. I start a lucid 64 bit kvm with virtio and a tap device (which
is in a bridge already) and after a while, the network seems down (from
outside, no ssh access etc). However, when I run a ping from within the

Of course you have to be root. Thats the whole point of this bug. The
script report apache is stopped, but it can't be and it isn't. The
output of the script is wrong for non-root users.

the rc?.d directories. I didn't see a need for removing the init.d
file.

Ok, sorry. I'm seeing this behaviour on my Jaunty installation, so
that's Apache version 2.2.11-2ubuntu2
However, this behaviour was also seen on Hardy and Intrepid (by me). I
