[Bug 1509816] Re: Upgrade from 14.04 to 15.04 missed systemd-sysv and init package init 1.22ubuntu11 failed to install/upgrade: pre-dependency problem - not installing init

2016-01-12 Thread Jan
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1032823 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1032823

I don't think this duplicates #1032823. Had the same problem while
upgrading from 14.04 to 15.04 (which is apparently a direct upgrade path
now, rather than the update manager doing 14.04 to 14.10 first). Have to
manually install the systemd-sysv package to be able to reboot the
server at all.

Re: [Bug 1384503] Re: rsync fails on large files with compression

2016-01-11 Thread Jan Groenewald
Hi

I think this is fixed in future rsync versions. For Ubuntu 14.04, exclude
ALL compression when rsyncing, e.v. chancve -az to -a.

Jan

[Bug 1214806] Re: pinger crashed with SIGSEGV in __tzfile_compute()

2015-10-23 Thread Jan Willamowius
I think the pinger is an optional component in Squid.

As a workaround it might help to set "pinger_enable off" in
/etc/squid3/squid.conf.

[Bug 1486107] Re: package openssh-server 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-09-01 Thread Jan
We ended up removing the openssh-server package entirely from the system
and then installing the latest version again using aptitude (obviously
this requires a physical login or some sort of virtual console on the
server, you can't do this over SSH itself :-)). The latest version is
now running again and dpkg runs without crashing again.

[Bug 1486107] Re: package openssh-server 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2.3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-08-20 Thread Jan
I'm having similar problems with this package on 2 different servers.
When updating, dpkg hangs on the post install script of the openssh-
server package. The process becomes defunct and stops responding.

I edited the /var/lib/dpkg/info/openssh-server.postinst file and adjusted set
-e to set -x to see the output.
When running dpkg --configure -a, it hangs again when trying to restart the SSH
service:

+ [ -d /run/systemd/system ]
+ [ -x /etc/init.d/ssh ]
+ [ ! -e /etc/init/ssh.conf ]
+ [ -n 1:6.6p1-2ubuntu2 ]
+ _dh_action=restart
+ invoke-rc.d ssh restart

This step just never happens. The problem is the same on both servers,
the ssh restart step hangs.

[Bug 1073204] Re: ssh-authkey-fingerprints fails on boot

2015-06-03 Thread Jan Segre
I am having this bug in trusty apparently:

```
Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS ubuntu ttyS0
ubuntu login: Cloud-init v. 0.7.5 running 'modules:final' at Wed, 03 Jun 2015
Cloud-init v. 0.7.5 finished at Wed, 03 Jun 2015 19:49:18 +. Datasource
```

I tried with all trusty cloud images currently on https://cloud-
images.ubuntu.com/trusty/ which as of now are 20150313, 20150531,
20150601 and 20150602, the current points to 20150531. The same problem
occurs.

Current precise, utopic and vivid images work just fine, as well as
fedora and coreos images. But trusty images have this issue.

However the very SAME trusty images (untouched) were working about two
weeks ago. I tracked all little changes we made on our OpenStack
deployment to see if they were somehow related but reverting them did no
good.

I'm currently not entirely sure there is a bug on cloud-init, however it
can't be anywhere else since cloud-init from all other images work like
a charm.

 Title:
/etc/init.d/ssh stop does not stop ssh server processes

Status in “openssh” package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
Running /etc/init.d/ssh stop does not result in ssh server being
stopped. Running service ssh stop works fine.

As a result, running /etc/init.d/ssh restart does not restart sshd
so new settings from sshd_config won't be loaded.

Using service ssh restart works fine, but ideally using the init
script should still work as long as it's still there.

[Bug 1380231] Re: Potential Vulnerability for X509 Certificate Verification

2014-10-13 Thread Jan Wagner
Right from the plugins documentation (--help) of the plugins:

Please note that this plugin does not check if the presented server
certificate matches the hostname of the server, or if the certificate
has a valid chain of trust to one of the locally installed CAs.

The question now is, how do you come to the conclusion, that the plugins
didn't check ... the expired date of the certificate.?

[Bug 1314289] Re: [Precise/regression] drbd 8.4.x backport breaks existing clusters

2014-05-13 Thread Jan Vollendorf
Hello,

I checked this on two clusters with two nodes each.
All systems running a 3.2.0-61-generic kernel.
After installing drbd8-utils (2:8.4.3-0ubuntu0.12.04.2) the problem is solved
for me.

Testcases:
  - With new tools, old kernel module loaded:
* drbdsetup xml net should output xml help instead of an error = OK
* /sbin/drbdadm --version does not fail to print the version.= OK
* service drbd stop should work without errors
   = OK
* service corosync restart on a cluster should work without loosing the
local mirror. = OK
Additional Tests:
* following Transitions and status checks by pacemaker are working again
now:
# unconfigured - Secondary
# secondary - Primary
# primary - secondary
# secondary - unconfigured

[Bug 1165461] Re: pam_winbind offline logon does not work in 12.04

2013-05-30 Thread Jan
Hi everyone,

the bug only occurs if you use the idmap ad backend. With backend tdb
everything works fine.

I tracked this down to the file /var/run/samba/gencache.tdb. The file
lies in a tmpfs and is cleared on every reboot. Winbind uses it to
store the sid2uid and sid2gid mapping information in it.

An easy fix is to tell samba to store the file in an other directory.
This can be done with lock directory = /var/cache/samba/ in smb.conf.

The files which are sugested do exist, but they are namend with a .conf

I dunno, if this bug is a2ensite or bash-completion.

[Bug 993063] Re: package samba 2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2012-05-02 Thread Jan Wielemaker
Thanks for having a look. This isn't a show-stopper for me. Just an upgrade
that didn't go smoothly. Here is
the output you asked for. I assume I should get rid of the warning :-)

[Bug 922594] [NEW] Assertion in slap_listener

2012-01-27 Thread Jan J
Public bug reported:

While trying to reproduce Ubuntu Bug #921489 on a more modern release
(Natty) I seem to have triggered an assertion in slap_listener.

The test I am using is four threads of

while true; do ldapsearch -Y GSSAPI -H ldap://ldap.example.com uid=user
 /dev/null ; if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then sleep 2; fi ; done

within three minutes the server fails printing the following message

slapd: /build/buildd/openldap-2.4.23/servers/slapd/daemon.c:1846:
slap_listener: Assertion `((slap_daemon.sd_index[(sfd)]) == -1)' failed.

gdb output:

[Bug 921499] Re: CRC mismatch in debug symbols

2012-01-26 Thread Jan J
I followed http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/rebuilding-ubuntu-debian-linux-
binary-package/

then I did

dpkg -i *.deb

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 213784 2012-01-26 10:40 /usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1214599 2012-01-26 10:40
/usr/lib/debug/usr/lib/libgssapi_krb5.so.2.2

should indicate that the new files are in place.

The messages still remains in GDB.

[Bug 921489] [NEW] Segmentation fault in slapd (related to GSSAPI?)

2012-01-25 Thread Jan J
Public bug reported:

In our installation slapd will crash with a Segmentation Fault about
once a week. It has been seen on the producer while the consumers
connect but also on both producer and consumers at random. It seems to
be related to authentication with GSSAPI.

syslog produces the followig message:
kernel: [513493.152760] slapd[1610]: segfault at 7fb242df9000 ip

The backtrace is incomplete as the debug packages are broken. Trying to
reproduce this bug I trigger another segfault. I will file reports on thease

[Bug 921547] [NEW] Segmentation fault in libkrb5.so.25

2012-01-25 Thread Jan J
Public bug reported:

While trying to reproduce Ubuntu Bug #921489 I can repeatedly generate a
Segmentation Fault in another code path.

The test I setup was one single client doing repeated searches against
slapd using GSSAPI auth

while true; do ldapsearch -Y GSSAPI -H ldap://server.example.com
uid=user  /dev/null ; if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then sleep 2; fi ; done

Using 15 of thease loops the server crashes within 30 minutes.

[Bug 715056] Re: invalid ssl-certificates in /etc/postfix/main.cf after security upgrade

2011-06-25 Thread jan
I waited till the patch was in for lucid till I used upgrade manager. By
detault, it now found 1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.5, and it worked like a charm.
Thanks for the effort put into this.

[Bug 791747] Re: Cannot add keys from PKCS#11 provider

2011-06-21 Thread Jan Krajdl
OpenSSH version: 5.8p1-1ubuntu3
OpenSC version: 0.11.13-1ubuntu5
Which other software is ubuntu using for loading ssh agent (so I can write
their versions here)

Steps to reproduce:
- you have a OpenSC compatible card/token with loaded key pair (pkcs15-tool -D
prints information about private and public RSA key)
- type into terminal after login: ssh-add -s /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so
- next type PIN for the security card/token
- you probably see error: SSH_AGENT_FAILURE
- now run new ssh agent (type into terminal ssh-agent and output copy to the
terminal too) and repeat steps in this terminal - after typing PIN you get
message Card added: /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so and ssh-agent now knows key on
the card/token - this is correct behaviour

confus@confus:/etc/postfix$ postmap hash:sasl_passwd
postmap: fatal: open sasl_passwd: Permission denied

[Bug 791747] [NEW] Cannot add keys from PKCS#11 provider

2011-06-02 Thread Jan Krajdl
Public bug reported:

it's not possible to add keys from security devices with ssh-agent which is
running from Ubuntu session. I'm trying to use authentication with Rainbow iKey
3000 token with OpenSC. When I after login type into terminal this:
ssh-add -s /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so
and after that I type PIN to the token, I get:
SSH_AGENT_FAILURE
Could not add card: /usr/lib/opensc-pkcs11.so

When I run new ssh-agent in terminal, set env variables, this command
works OK - load keys from the token and I'm able to authenticate with
keys in them. So whole openssh agent is working OK but I think that
there is somewhere bug when Ubuntu running this agent after login.

It was probably my own fault - having deleted the tomcat folder
accidentially and only reinstallung the tomcat6-common packge. Sorry for
not reinstalling the dependency on my own.

[Bug 730703] [NEW] tomcat6-common missing core libraries

2011-03-07 Thread Jan Kurella
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tomcat6

Ubuntu 10.10 x64
The tomcat6-common package installs only the following libs:

/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/catalina-ant.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/commons-dbcp.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/commons-pool.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/el-api.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/jasper-jdt.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/jsp-api.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/servlet-api.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/tomcat-i18n-es.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/tomcat-i18n-fr.jar
/usr/share/tomcat6/lib/tomcat-i18n-ja.jar

with this libs tomcat does not start up! class Catalina is missing :)

from a working tomcat instance on 10.04 I fetched the following missing
libs:

annotations-api.jar - ../../java/annotations-api.jar
catalina-ha.jar - ../../java/catalina-ha.jar
catalina.jar - ../../java/catalina.jar
catalina-tribes.jar - ../../java/catalina-tribes.jar
jasper-el.jar - ../../java/jasper-el.jar
jasper.jar - ../../java/jasper.jar
tomcat-coyote.jar - ../../java/tomcat-coyote.jar

with them manually added to /usr/share/tomcat6/lib tomcat starts...

2011-02-28 Thread Jan Tijssen
I am still fighting Ubuntu1. It looks like it is working, but it is very
slow and the graphical interface does only show that it is active by
showing synchronization in progress, no device name, no name, no
email, no Current plan information. Fighting this problem for many weeks
with the suburb help of Joshua Hoover. I don't think it is related, but
I want to mention this because I did mention I am not aware of any
failure, which is not true...

and that the update caused two lines to be appended to /etc/postfix/main.cf

Fortunately, I had this file under RCS, so that I could catch this.
RCS file: RCS/main.cf,v
retrieving revision 1.3
diff -r1.3 main.cf
59a60,61
 home_mailbox = Maildir/
 mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c
 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf -n -m ${EXTENSION}

How can I make sure that coming upgrades don't get my mail stopped again ?
Note that I need to have the files in /var/mail, because of another bug:

[Bug 687535] Re: upstart loses track of ssh daemon after reload ssh

2011-02-02 Thread Jan de Haan
I'm sorry to spoil the fun but I see the same problem on Lucid with the
new package.

Only thing that might be of interest is that this is a xen 4 guest.

More info and tests available on request.

Re: [Bug 691462] Re: nssldap-update-ignoreusers overwrite symlinks

2011-01-03 Thread Jan J
Chuck Short chuck.sh...@canonical.com wrote:
 Which version are you using?

Not certain what version you are requesting but here goes.

Most of our servers run Lucid Lynx (Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS). They
auto update so the nss-ldap package is at 264-2ubuntu2.

On another note I believe this is a known problem with sed -i a
Google for sed -i symlink turns up
http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg723433.html
which might contain a solution.

[Bug 694493] Re: postfix default installation yields errors with encrypted user directories

2010-12-31 Thread jan
Auch.
I lost several days of E-mail with this setting.
On
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/MailLocation/mbox
I finally found a better setting:

mail_location = mbox:/var/empty:INBOX=/var/mail/%u:INDEX=MEMORY
for
 /etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf

This bug is getting painful !

[Bug 694493] [NEW] postfix default installation yields errors with encrypted user directories

2010-12-26 Thread jan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: postfix

As of Lucid, one can choose a user's directory to be encrypted.
I chose this, and now, postfix only works if ALL users are logged in at the
same time.
With a user with an encypted home directory, it is a bad idea to use the
~/Maildir configuration.
Most of the time, this directory cannot be present.

Thus, if ANY user has an ecrypted home directory, postfix should NOT use
~/Maildir.
Also, if ANY new user is added with an ecrypted home directory, postfix should
be re-configured NOT use ~/Maildir.

Please also warn against this in manuals, e.g. het postfix serverguide
https://help.ubuntu.com/10.04/serverguide/C/postfix.html

I am now trying to find out how to get back to mbox style.
I have not yet found a manual for that

[Bug 694493] Re: postfix default installation yields errors with encrypted user directories

2010-12-26 Thread jan
Please add the feature on how to remove Maildir from
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Postfix
this file states a default postfix behavior that is NOT consistent with lucid
lynx default behavior.

I commented out the lines below
# home_mailbox = Maildir/
# mailbox_command = /usr/lib/dovecot/deliver -c
/etc/dovecot/conf.d/01-dovecot-postfix.conf -n -m ${EXTENSION}

then, dovecot could not fin the files anymore

To my disgust,
sudo dkpg -reconfigure dovecot-postfix
appended the two lines I just commented out back to /etc/postfix/main.cf

I was able to get this running in Unbuntu 8.04. If I only could find out
how to do it in lucid lynx ...

2010-12-24 Thread jan
I have exactly the same experience. Trying to set up on:
Linux 2.6.32-27-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Wed Dec 1 23:52:12 UTC 2010 i686
GNU/Linux

sudo dpkg --configure dovecot-common

results in:

Setting up dovecot-common (1:1.2.9-1ubuntu6.1) ...
Creating generic self-signed certificate: /etc/ssl/certs/dovecot.pem
(replace with hand-crafted or authorized one if needed).
hostname: Name or service not known
dpkg: error processing dovecot-common (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
 dovecot-common

I have no clue on how to tell the system where hostname resides.
Besides, hostname just works fine.

which hostname
returns
/bin/hostname
