Yes, /var/run is recreated every time the system is booted, but that's
fine because /etc/init.d/slapd does the work ok:
# Make sure the pidfile directory exists with correct permissions
piddir=`dirname $SLAPD_PIDFILE`
if [ ! -d $piddir ];
