[Bug 235562] Re: Add ability to build Debian virtual machines
I have a fork that intends to add Debian guest support. Right now it is only tested with KVM (because that is just what I need). Also I only tested it with Jessie images, so it might not work with every Debian suite as the guest, particularly with older suites. It serves my purpose of adding support for Debian guest KVM images to gitian-builder. But it would be nice if my changes were upstreamed. I assume that images other than KVM don't currently work for Debian guests in my fork and that the upstream maintainers would probably want all image types to be supported before merging in any of my changes, but I figured it would be good to start a dialog at this point. Let me know what it would take to upstream these changes. https://github.com/josephbisch/vmbuilder -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to vm-builder in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/235562 Title: Add ability to build Debian virtual machines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/vmbuilder/+bug/235562/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report on this issue. However, given the number of bugs that the Kernel Team receives during any development cycle it is impossible for us to review them all. Therefore, we occasionally resort to using automated bots to request further testing. This is such a request. With the recent release of this Ubuntu release, would like to confirm if this bug is still present. Please test again with the newer kernel and indicate in the bug if this issue still exists or not. You can update to the latest development kernel by simply running the following commands in a terminal window: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade If the bug still exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Confirmed. If the bug no longer exists, change the bug status from Incomplete to Fix Released. If you want this bot to quit automatically requesting kernel tests, add a tag named: bot-stop-nagging. [Bug 1226855] Re: Cannot use open-iscsi inside LXC container
Thanks for your reply, I'll chat with Robert and Clint to see if any of these solutions is reasonable for us. As a reference point, here's the setup we're using: Host has 2 VMs: An LXC and an qemu VM The host has the iscsi_tcp module loaded, which then can be seen and used for the iscsi daemon within the container. Now, what we're attempting to do is provision the qemu VM via the LXC container using OpenStack's baremetal provisioning tools in a virtualized environment (no nested KVM!), so loosely the procedure is: the LXC container boots the qemu image (we have a nifty power driver) and gives it an address via dnsmasq-dhcp, loads up some things via dnsmasq-tftp (this all works) and then we use iscsi to copy data to the qemu VM. Robert or Clint can chime in with more details (or to clarify/correct!). Today I ran through the test again and connected to the iscsid daemon inside the container for your strace, attached is the output from: strace -p 1488 -o iscsid_strace_baremetal.txt ** Attachment added: iscsid_strace_baremetal.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1226855/+attachment/3845437/+files/iscsid_strace_baremetal.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to lxc in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1226855 Title: Cannot use open-iscsi inside LXC container To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1226855/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1088053] Re: Kernel needs to provide FIFREEZE/FITHAW ioctl so that open-vm-dkms can build
Hi Nate, It appears FIFREEZE AND FITHAW are already built into the kernel. Here is the defines in ~/linux/include/linux/fs.h(Also in ~linux/include/uapi/linux/fs.h): #define FIFREEZE_IOWR('X', 119, int)/* Freeze */ #define FITHAW _IOWR('X', 120, int)/* Thaw */ In ~linux/fs/ioctl.c, there is a switch for FIFREEZE AND FITHAW: do_vfs_ioctl() case FIFREEZE: error = ioctl_fsfreeze(filp); break; case FITHAW: error = ioctl_fsthaw(filp); break; These switch statements then call ioctl_fsfreeze() or ioctl_fsthaw(): static int ioctl_fsfreeze(struct file *filp) { struct super_block *sb = filp-f_path.dentry-d_inode-i_sb; if (!capable(CAP_SYS_ADMIN)) return -EPERM; /* If filesystem doesn't support freeze feature, return. */ if (sb-s_op-freeze_fs == NULL) return -EOPNOTSUPP; /* Freeze */ return freeze_super(sb); } ioctl_fsfreeze() then does a check to see if freeze is supported by the filesystem. Do you have a more complete log of the failure you are seeing when vmsync doesn't compile? If it was working prior to the v3.6 kernel, then that would also indicate this is a regression versus a new feature request. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to open-vm-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1088053 Title: Kernel needs to provide FIFREEZE/FITHAW ioctl so that open-vm-dkms can build To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/open-vm-tools/+bug/1088053/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1078922] Re: Fan runs unnecessary
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance. Thanks, Serge. It would be good to know if the bug goes away if you boot the precise kernel in the quantal vm. That will tell us if this is a regression.
