Accidentally deleted my.cnf, then tried to reinstall mysql-server-5.1,
then purged the package and tried to install again. Same error.

package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.54-1ubuntu4 failed to install/upgrade:
the script post-installation subprocess returned
After I removed /var/cache/apt/mysql*, I could install the mysql-server package.
The packages were downloaded again, and everything went ok.
