Public bug reported: Bind9 process freezes once/twice daily. Process is still present but will not respond to any queries. The process will not gracefully shut down, requires 'kill -9' in order to stop it. Restarting the process restores normal operation. Problem first occurred after upgrading from bind9 version 9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1ubuntu0.3 to version 9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1ubuntu0.4.
Problem seems identical to- http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601830 and https://www.isc.org/software/bind/advisories/cve-2011-0414 Tried the "-n1" workaround as described in the above ISC web page, but the problem still occurs. Resolved the issue by downgrading to bind9 package version 9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1. --- Description: Ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS Release: 10.04 bind9: Installed: 1:9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1 Candidate: 1:9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1ubuntu0.4 Version table: 1:9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1ubuntu0.4 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ lucid-updates/main Packages 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ lucid-security/main Packages *** 1:9.7.0.dfsg.P1-1 0 500 http://ftp.iinet.net.au/pub/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bind9 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/907161 Title: BIND9 server lockup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/907161/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
