Under a standard desktop install of trusty, i don't have a /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf. Under 13.10beta2 (lightdm 1.8.0), this bug is made even worse as lightdm ignores the greeter-show-manual-login=true setting completely = NIS users cannot log in at all. Usually if I install nis package, I am going to use it. So what's the problem to trigger a lightdm.conf entry??? I'm not sure how the nis or ldap packages would integrate with lightdm here.
