Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please could you edit /var/lib/dpkg/info/samba-common.postinst and replace set -e (near the top) with set -ex. Then run sudo dpkg --configure --pending, and paste the results? This should show us exactly which line is causing the problem. Once done, please change the bug status back to New.
