[Bug 1011925] Re: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1
It's not reproducable, though I have seen it occur on multiple occasions on different machines. It was occurring when trying to run a euca-bundle command in the guest this time, which I guess was calling bzip at some point. Predictably it only occurs when the guest is under any load. The CentOS kernel is almost certainly out-of-date so I'll update the image and get back to you if that doesn't fix it. [Bug 1011925] Re: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1
Thanks for the clarification. In that case, while it could be a bug in virtio (since gzip is locking up) or the qemu timer, it would seem most likely to be a bug in the centos kernel. lockup messages like that are quite common on bare metal as well. Is the centos image uptodate? Is this very reproducible - any particular command you can issue on the guest to always make it happen? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011925 Title: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kvm/+bug/1011925/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Serge, I wasn't clear, sorry. The kernel messages are appearing on the guest and it becomes unresponsive. [Bug 1011925] Re: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1
Thanks for reporting this bug. To be sure, the kernel messages you are showing are on the host, not in the guest? (I don't see kvm in the list of modules) Can you provide the kvm command line and/or libvirt xml for your guest? ** Changed in: kvm (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1011925 Title: cpu soft lockup in Centos guest using KVM 0.14.1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kvm/+bug/1011925/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
