Public bug reported: Running:
$ sudo lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS Release: 12.04 $ uname -a Linux Ubuntu-Desktop 3.8.0-29-generic #42~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Wed Aug 14 16:19:23 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux While updating the qemu-kvm package to the latest version (1.0+noroms- 0ubuntu14.11) I get the following message: Preparing to replace qemu-utils 1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.11 (using .../qemu-utils_1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.11_amd64.deb) ... Setting up qemu-kvm (1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.11) ... start: Job failed to start invoke-rc.d: initscript qemu-kvm, action "start" failed. I am also unable to start qemu-kvm using the following methods: $sudo service qemu-kvm start start: Job failed to start $ sudo /etc/init.d/qemu-kvm start Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8) utility, e.g. service qemu-kvm start Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start qemu-kvm start: Job failed to start $ sudo start qemu-kvm start: Job failed to start It does not seems to be running: $ sudo service qemu-kvm status qemu-kvm stop/waiting And when I am using virtual machine manager it warns "KVM is not available. This may mean the KVM package is not installed or the KVM kernel modules are not loaded." I expect that after the update (and subsequent power cycling of the computer) I should be able to use KVM. ** Affects: qemu-kvm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to qemu-kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218137 Title: Unable to start qemu-kvm (1.0+noroms-0ubuntu14.11) on 12.04.3 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qemu-kvm/+bug/1218137/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
