[Bug 1380080] Re: Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied (convert init to upstart)

2015-08-06 Thread Bharath Bhushan Lohray
I have the following line in my crontab

@reboot sleep 20  screen -d -S syncthing -m syncthing

I added a 20 second delay to avoid race conditions, but from the last 4
boots, I have a mail that says -

Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied

What possibly changed with my sleep?

[Bug 1380080] Re: Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied (convert init to upstart)

2015-03-13 Thread Growlf
NOTE - the issue is easily fixed (at least for me). I want to run my
minecraft script (like others that seem to find this thread just like I
did) which requires screen. However the default priority for my script
would be the same (i.e. 20) as the one for screen (which also is going
to be in the same rc.d folders) and since 'm' comes before 's' - it will
attempt to kick off first - and fail.

Solution: when updating rc.d - specify later and earlier priorities
for your scripts startup and shutdown than the requirements might have.
In my case sudo update-rc.d minecraft defaults 99 10 works like a
charm.

Mmm.. and don't forget to remove the old defaults for your script first.
(as in: update-rc.d minecraft remove)

I also suffer from this issue. No workaround or fix is working for me

[Bug 1380080] Re: Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied (convert init to upstart)

2015-01-15 Thread Chris Osgood
Same problem here. I have several machines that run screen -d -m from
an @reboot crontab entry and they all get the error at every boot.

[Bug 1380080] Re: Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied (convert init to upstart)

2014-11-15 Thread UbuntuAddicted
this also affects me, i'm running Xubuntu 14.04.1. I expect screen to launch
from an init script that I have setup which is here
http://paste.ubuntu.com/9029872/ but I see in /var/log/boot.log that it can't
create the screen session, it returns
Cannot make directory '/var/run/screen': Permission denied

Please fix. thank you
