Sorry: Disregard previous comment. The ldd was taken running karmic desktop,
and the original problem arose running karmic UNR.
I'll try again after rebooting.

After booting from the UNR memory stick I get:
ubu...@ubuntu:~$ ldd /usr/sbin/ntpd
ldd: /usr/sbin/ntpd: No such file or directory
ubu...@ubuntu:~
probably because ntp is not installed...
I then tried to install ntp once again, with the following result:

ubu...@ubuntu:~$ sudo
