Solved. As per http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1477011 I
turned the computer off, unplugged the ethernet cable and all power
sources, left the thing to sit for ~3min and then restarted. Everything
works perfectly now. Have no idea what happened but thanks everyone for
the help.

Have you tried running "sudo dhclient3 eth0" from a command line? What
