Hi Serge, Thank you for your insights. I did aptitude full-upgrade and was indeed annoyed by hung apt/dpkg processes running without a terminal attached. Also, there were whiptail processes stuck in an endless loop. Unfortunately, the entire system kind of crashed (only ping from outside worked) and I wasn't able to recover from this. I have no idea why, but it's probably unrelated. I've also removed update-notifier for the time being, but I'm not sure anymore if it had anything to do with this. Hi Paul, thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better.
