Are you still experiencing this problem? I just tried to reproduce this
on lucid and could not. If you still can reproduce this problem on
maverick, then I'll create a machine I can try on.

I have tested ubuntu amd64 desktop 20100824 on a qemu-kvm VM and i have
reproduced the bug, gdm don't start, but in a real hardware Live session and
Installation from DVD (image size too large for CD) i cannot reproduce it
because it simply works as expected, Live session works and
