Hm, so it looks like several issues combined into one bug.
1- You started experiencing CIFS mount issues, due to "error -1 (Unknown
error 18446744073709551615) opening credential file
/home/imota/.smbcredentials"
2- You updated/reinstalled samba but that failed, due to a missing
/etc/samba/smb.co
Tried a full purge of the guilty packages, followed a suggestion I found
online (removed /usr/share/samba/smb.conf), reinstalled, no error on
installation of latest releases.
However still getting errors on boot:
boot.log contents
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2

Just rebooted after editing my .smbcredentials file...
Everything is mounted, delay on bootup was a lot shorter but still
getting boot.log errors:
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2
fsck from util-linux-ng 2.17.2

This might also be of interest; dpkg.log.debug shows when the update-
manager first tried to install the samba package updates, when I
manually installed another package (x-screensaver) and when it failed
again and crashed.
The other is my boot.log... Interestingly it is complaining of my
.smbcred
