[Bug 653370] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-10-04 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. From the
DistUpgradeTermLog:

Installing new version of config file /etc/logrotate.d/mysql-server ...
Warning: found usr.sbin.mysqld in /etc/apparmor.d/force-complain, forcing
complain mode
^C
^Cdpkg: error processing mysql-server-5.1 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)

As the upgrade process was killed by a ^C, there is nothing to be done
by us, so closing INVALID (user cancelled upgrade).

Duh. It is a hang... I apologise. Looking at the logs now.

[Bug 653370] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-10-04 Thread Aldon Hynes
I managed to finally complete the upgrade and believe I've found where
the problem was.

Part of the upgrade to Lucid Lynx included upgrading MySQL 5.0 to 5.1.
I was given the choice of keeping the existing my.cnf or using the
default. I wanted to keep my existing configuration.

However, in doing so, the skip-bdb line was left enabled in the my.cnf
file. This caused mysql to fail to restart properly, and caused
AppArmour to hang. When I finally figured this out, I changed the
my.cnf file and did a dpkg --configure -a which fixed the configuration
and MySql and AppArmour worked properly.

I am not sure what the best solution for this should be. Perhaps the
AppArmour configuration should abort instead of hanging. Some sort of
message about the configuration of MySql being screwed up might help as
well.

[Bug 653370] Re: package mysql-server-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3 failed to install/upgrade:

2010-10-04 Thread C de-Avillez
I see this, in the daemon log:

Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]: 101001 20:45:42 [ERROR] /usr/sbin/mysqld:
unknown option '--skip-bdb'

Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]:
Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]: 101001 20:45:42 [Note] /usr/sbin/mysqld:
Shutdown complete
Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]:
Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]:
Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]: Installation of system tables failed!
Examine the logs in
Oct 1 20:45:42 linux1 mysqld[28442]: /var/lib/mysql for more information.

From the DistUpgradeAptLog, I see this:

Setting up mysql-common (5.1.41-3ubuntu12.3) ...
Configuration file `/etc/mysql/my.cnf'
== Modified (by you or by a script) since installation.
== Package distributor has shipped an updated version.
What would you like to do about it ? Your options are:
Y or I : install the package maintainer's version
N or O : keep your currently-installed version
D : show the differences between the versions
Z : background this process to examine the situation
The default action is to keep your current version.
*** my.cnf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ?
.3_i386.deb) ...
*** my.cnf (Y/I/N/O/D/Z) [default=N] ? n

So you kept the old MySQL configuration. It happens that this
configuration is not good anymore (and causes the error above). Can you
please update your MySQL configuration, and run 'apt-get -f install'?

The logs show that MySQL was being configured at the moment you
cancelled the upgrade -- so this does not seem to be an apparmour issue.

OTOH, I agree that config changes should be more carefully screened. I
am just not sure, right now, on how to do it.
