Hi! This seems like it has gone untouched for a while. I'm not sure what
we can do to address it. The apparmor profile would not result in a
killed by signal, and AFAIK, works for the default install and upgrade
case.

it looks as though possibly there's some error in the 'magic' of the
package maintainer's version of
/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld
that is unresolved as of mysql-server-5.1_5.1.49-1ubuntu8.1_amd64.deb
so try to substitute the 'original version' as in attachment

Can confirm that the installation from source is running as expected.

Upon further investigation I get the impression that my problem is
similar to this one...

I have put a note on the end of that bug, and the respose was that I
should open a new bug, but rather than do that I feel I should just
So I've tried the following.
On the other bug thread there was a fix released to the repositories,
this was the version I was downloading /installing.
As this was failing, I removed all the Mysql stuff.

sudo apt-get remove mysql-server-5.1
sudo apt-get purge mysql-server-5.1
sudo apt-get
OK result is that everything still fails!
I'm going to re-install from source.
Make sure that works!
