Thanks, Adam. As the error suggested, your named.conf.local file is not valid. Please remove the 'adam' line (or comment it out) and try restarting. If you just wanted a localhost zone, please see the 'zone localhost' line in /etc/bind/named.conf.default-zones. my current term.log contains an example of the failed bind9 startup.
