Thank you for your response and the good news that this bug has been
fixed in a later release.
As far as I am aware the dangling symlinks are not causing a problem
with the functionality of the package.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug. This bug has been fixed
in both the latest release (10.10/Maverick) and the current development
release (Natty).
Please can you confirm if the dangling symlinks are causing an issue
with functionally with the application on 10.04 / Lucid?
