Got exactly the same problem... after restarting smbd, printer sharing
works well.

As a workaround, I added the following to /etc/rc.local:
#!/bin/sh -e
/sbin/reload smbd
exit 0
The problem is obviously that cups is started after samba and so the
printer is not shared by samba at boot.
