Hi Philippe nova-manage db sync is normally pretty fast on a fresh installation so this is quite unusual. What type of database are you using with nova? I'm using a MySQL database but when you install OpenStack with apt-get, of course at this moment, you can't configure OpenStack; so the nova- manage db sync command called by apt-get creates a SQLite database. It's after the installation you can change the database from SQLite to MySQL in the nova configuration. I can't retry the installation to see if the problem still exists because OpenStack is now used by several users on our site. So you can close this problem. For information, there is also another error: The apt-get install nova-common command stops on the message: DEBUG nova.utils [-] backend module 'nova.db.sqlalchemy.migration' from '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/db/sqlalchemy/migration.pyc' from (pid=21474) __get_backend /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/nova/utils.py:658 In another shell window, I see by using ps that the apt-get install command is waiting indefinitely on the nova-manage db sync command. So I kill the nova-manage command and retry the apt-get install. I've retried the installation and waits. The nova-manage db sync command called during the installation of the nova-common package completes after 10 minutes which is a very long time for my opinion.
