Thanks for taking the time to report this bug.
I would recommend for the time being that you delete the example
dc=nodomain - this is a legacy from older releases which provided an
example set of data.
You should then be able to upgrade openldap.

ls -l /var/backups/slapd-2.4.25-1.1ubuntu4.1
If you could also check that each of the ldif files that should be in
that directory contain data for nodomain and case.lan that would also be
helpful.
