I haven't seen this one before. The text you included indicates that
ssh-keyscan was processing a Protocol 2 key and it should be using the
modified code to do it. Is there any way that you could send me a
traceback when the failure occurs?

The problem might be with the rabbitmq service user and lightdm. Lightdm can't
log out because
there is another user still logged in.
If you change from lightdm to use gdm does it help?
- sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm (select gdm)
- (reboot)

I've been running RabbitMQ 2.6.1 and 2.7.0 for a while on 11.10 (and
11.04) without any of these problems.
I'm not sure what is different in my setup compared to yours, but maybe
we can work it out?

Installing bridge-utils and then setting up a bridge in
/etc/netwrok/interfaces decimates my netwrok speed. Uninstalling the
package and doing a reboot restores the speed.

anyone who's interested...
Fresh install from 10.04.3 CD, choosing openssh-server as the only
extra package
