This is an improvement, not a bug. The tomcat7 package is splitted so that it
allows to run multiple tomcat instances. The ini script has a hardcoded NAME
variable and paths depending on it. It should be changed from
NAME=tomcat7

The SRU I proposed just backports the fix that Debian have applied. If
we want to do something else in Quantal, then we'd be deviating from
Debian on this. Is this worth doing?

The 1.4.2 release only contains bug

Hi Adam,
When when investigating this a little more closely I was able to do the
following (applying the patch Dan linked on top of the v1.4.0 tag) and
it resolved the issue.
git checkout v1.4.0
git cherry-pick 11f84dce005dd14a374ab2ef5f8c25bcf8285a36
Also it seems that what you applied here
I extrated 'http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/all/debconf/download'
from the latest realease of Debconf at:
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/all/debconf/download
And retried:
$ sudo apt-get install -f
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...
Finally I forced removed samba:
$sudo dpkg --force-depends --purge samba-common libpam-smbpass samba
samba*
and again, ran
$sudo apt-get install -f
All dependencies were fixed.
