I should add, that since this manipulation, my ethernet drivers are
dead too :( so any internet dependent manoover is not possible at
the moment...

Hi,
You may want to look for your Nvidia model against the version of the
driver to use.
I have a GeForce FX5200 and nvidia-current driver package is NOT suitable
for usage with this card, I had to rollback to nvidia-173 or something like
that.
