adding german translators because i dont know the next steps. If i am
correct the issue was in the source-code of evolution. The template was
not used correctly. Its fixed upstream and sill affecting 11.10 and
12.04

Recently a string "Format ..." has been added to Unity's translation
strings.
It's not visible whether this refers to formating a hard drive or
formating some text, which is translated as a different word in 90+% of
the languages.
Translators comment explaining the situation
The eight formats related LC_* variables above are currently written to
/etc/default/locale and /etc/environment by language-selector, and to
~/.pam_environment by accountsservice. One question is whether it's
appropriate to 'pollute' the environment with all of them.

Hmmm. So, it seems I am SOL. I can boot into the recovery mode, but as
it is Lucid, the command line gets filled with solid diamonds instead of
appropriate text. I think I am able to get into "netroot" option
