@everyone for me, the problem was solved
Just did.
First I waited until the login drum sound before turnig on the tv, there was a
breif popup saying 16:9 but I don't know if it was the tv or ubuntu. When I
logged in it was still in 800x600, display properties 800x600, 640x480.
Second I logged in with the tv still turned off and
I'm trying bjaglin/Dominik's workaround (#37/#27) after trying to SteveE (#3)
that gave me usual trouble.
On my box, I have an ATI RV280 [Radeon 9200] [1002:5961] (rev 01), it seems to
give better results. No font corruption, no low reactivity of cairo dock and
the scores on benchmark of compiz
The TTY problem is still happening - switching to tty1...tty6 with ctl-
alt-Fn results in a screen covered with random colored blocks, and
alt-F6 switches back normally. The same colored screen shows while
shutting down or rebooting.
