I bodily dragged the Ubuntu 6.06 /etc/X11/xorg.conf file across and all
is well with the screen.
This implies something else has changed as /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
editing made no difference to 9.04 et al
Still, all seems ok now. GREAT!
However!!! My cpu fan seems to not work now!

Hmm, I seem to have the exact opposite problem: it detects a non-
ClickPad touchpad as a ClickPad, and thus breaks both my ability to use
my real middle button, and my ability to click and drag with the left

I can confirm this for GTX 285 + maverick beta + binary nvidia driver.
Even launching htop causes the Xorg cpu-usage to peak to ~30% on an i7-920. I
also noticed some much more serious spikes beyond 100%, which render the system

This is definitely NOT bug 572550. The bars are completely offscreen,
the mouse is limited only to the boundaries of the (empty) desktop, and
the display does not autopan.
I was able to activate gnome-terminal and ran apport-collect 629881
while in a simple (not failsafe) gnome login.
