I have a similar issue with a Targus PAWM004 Wireless Mouse, the thing
is that the mouse seems to work (i can click, use the mouse wheel, use
both clicks) but the mouse pointer on the screen don't move, i execute
this on a terminal:

Oh, and something productive to add instead of just whining: Another
font artefact happens if you use the xterm popup windows (ctrl-right
click, for example). Moving the mouse over the menu entries leaves
lines under the menu text.
Could the be somehow related to xterm now using true-type fonts?
Throwing my hat into the "please fix for maverick release". This is
really obnoxious, and easy to reproduce (just run xterm in compiz and
start typing). It effect my systems with radeon, intel, and nouveau
drivers. Please at least assign to someone so that it can be worked on.

When I fire up Unity, it's basically unusable. 100% CPU usage by the Xorg
process. I've seen reports of mutter eating CPU like crazy, but mutter seems
well behaved here. It seems to be all CPU, i.e. no I/O going crazy. Sorry, I

Hey,
I had similar messages on a Thinkpad r51 in which I came back from
sleep. Things worked enough to have a mouse move around, to be able to
switch virtual terminals, even to login if I could guess where to click,
but none of the widgets would get drawn on X anymore.
I did not solve the bug in
Workaround is to switch off 'Separate layouts for different windows' in
keyboard properties. This cures the bug completely.

After some further reading in an attempt to actually get into Ubuntu,
ticking 'nomodeset' in the boot options actually makes Ubuntu work,
which I'm thrilled about! :D

I am just asking. Why did Ubuntu 9.04 work so well and there was no issue
with my hard ware, but ever since, beginning with 9.10, this problem has
persisted. What Changed and why not go back to that version of X?

This has been happening in this system ever since the drm changes landed
in the lucid kernel. it seems to be related to new_pll .
Initially the problem with the guest session would occur if i start it
immediately itself.

Confirmed, I've been watching this too, and it only happens when tvtime
is running, and then fairly often.
I did try an older version of tvtime, but maybe not old enough... I'll
maybe try something older and then report back. I'd hate to leave tvtime
since it's such a great tv app.

Yeah the GDM login window. Plymouth is fine and gnome is fine but the
GDM is incorrect.
You seem to be implying the the GDM resolution is supposed to be
different. Its never been different before and it now looks like
complete garbage.

note of when this happens, and not once in that time has it happened
when TVTime was *not* running. I don't see any active development on
