observations:
Test: Xubuntu running live from the CD-rom.
Result: Flash runs well in full-screen.
Test: Installing the original (at releas of Ubuntu 10.10) Flash player.

Apparently, there is no compatible driver. I've tried manually loading
every driver and none detect it. You can see in the comments above that
Daniel Manrique was able to modify the Elantech driver's detection to
get it to detect the touchpad, but the protocol is different so it
didn't work.

to display it. No message about synchronization or resolution is shown
(I have tried setting a very low resolution for external display too).
When unplugging the cable or turning the display output off, the
projector stops

I can confirm the patch for the kernel module works. I no longer need
the userspace workaround, and it has also fixed some stability issues

I had this same problem when upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 with Dell
Vostro 15000 nvidia 8600M, and it turned out to be my kernel version was
old.
After a while and a lot of hacking, i realised that the kernel I was
using was the old 10.04 one. Even though I had downloaded the latest
ones
